To be glad that people are realising the effects of filler!

Just that really. It's been advertised by the media, plastic surgeons and the beauty industry for years as a safe, temporary procedure, however evidence is now finding that that is not the case at all!
I'm glad the truth is coming out now although it's still so new I expect we won't know the full damage for years too come.

I also found this video particularly interesting if anyone else is interested:

So you don't have any stats or actual evidence of filler causing cancer but are ok with alcohol?

Alcohol is KNOWN to cause cancer. So I guess none of you drink alcohol. It would be peculiar to avoid something that has no actual cancer risk evidence whilst happily partaking in something known to increase the risks of cancer 😑

www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/causes-of-cancer/alcohol-and-cancer/how-does-alcohol-cause-cancer

I didn't say I was okay with alcohol? I don't drink and actually hate the stuff. But the lady who commented wasn't comparing it to ALCOHOLISM, she compared it to a glass of wine. Which actually has been proven to have positive health benefits if drunk in small amounts, and can in absolutely NO WAY be compared to having filler shoved in your face.

I also hope you are all of a BMI of less than 25 as having any increase in body fat is also KNOWN to increase the risks of cancer

It would be churlish to worry about something that has no evidence of cancer beyond some random person saying it does when there is hard evidence that carrying any excess body fat WILL increase your risk of cancer

Red wines contain a large array of polyphenolic constituents that have been shown to block carcinogenesis and to inhibit the growth of tumors in whole animals, or in cell culture by altering the activity of certain enzymes or the expression of specific genes.

Just fyi. But like I said, I don't drink, so this isn't relevant to to me. But if you want to facts, there you go.

@glittercunt in the context of 'everyone is beautiful' then yes. They were beautiful before.

In the context of what is generally found to be attractive/unattractive, recessive chins are universally cited as an undesirable physical trait.

Strange logic, we're weird because we don't want to inject shit into our faces? I mean you do you. Personally I like my face to look human, thanks.

You're over-focusing on the cancer aspect. That isn't the only reason most people won't have fillers. The main reason is that they're not insecure sheep. I don't get fillers because I know that they look crap and I don't need them. I like my face, my wrinkles and lines are proof of a life well lived.

Ageing is a gift that some people aren't lucky enough to experience. We should be embracing it not trying to pretend we're teenagers!

I wouldn't be surprised if @biglipslittleblips has a vested interest in the filler.market so is prepared to.defend their income no.matter what.

It also wrecks mental health of vulnerable people.
Of course the injectors who are making money from this industry will promote it till the end.
Bit like sunbed companies of the past.

Grandmasswagbag · 10/10/2024 18:46

Good lord. I've watched the video now. Really this stuff should be banned! Sounds absolutely awful and if it's really not dissolving then they are falsely advertising surely. Also the effects of having it dissolved sounds just a dangerous.

If we are comparing it to alcohol, I would say filler and Botox etc is definitely more like the crack cocaine of cosmetics. A short lasting result, addictive and dangerous. A few of my friends have started having Botox and they have all reported that they have then notice that it's made their eyelids saggy, so you're just creating yet another problem that the industry will have to fix for you. I do know a women who started on Botox really young and did have her eyelids surgically altered, so it's obviously a 'thing'. Seems absolute madness to me.

They show a definite change. ‘Improvement’ is subjective. I prefer the originals. More natural. I like people to look individual.

For the life of god, the lunacy of accusing someone with a different viewpoint of 'obviously having a vested interest'

Do you really find it so hard to believe anyone holds a different option to yourselves?
That's some impressive level of arrogance

It's more than just "having an opinion" but how defensive, illogical, and vehement you are about it. If you think your filled face looks great, why are you so triggered that others don't? Carry on as you are.

Gummybear23 · 10/10/2024 19:52

@biglipslittleblips But your arguments are crap.
You try to derail arguments onto known carcinogenics which everyone is aware of and educated about.
However Long-term effects of fillers and Botox are unclear: The absence of proven risks today does not equate to their safety in the long run. Medical history has shown that certain cosmetic treatments or products, initially deemed safe, later proved harmful after decades of use. The lack of long-term studies is a risk in itself.
Unknown substances and body reactions: Fillers and Botox introduce foreign substances into the body. The potential for adverse reactions, such as immune responses, infections, or granulomas (lumps under the skin), should not be underestimated. Just because fillers haven't been linked to cancer doesn't mean they can't cause other serious health issues, such as nerve damage or vascular complications.

Beyond health risks, fillers and Botox contribute to a culture that promotes unrealistic beauty standards. This can have mental health repercussions, particularly for individuals who feel pressured to undergo such procedures to conform.

PepaWepa · 10/10/2024 20:04

@Gummybear23 Just because fillers haven't been linked to cancer

Yet. I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

Heresoneimadearlier · 10/10/2024 20:05

I can fully see why filler might be a bad idea long term, however when I look in the mirror and see deep marionette lines and smoker lines above my lips when I’ve never even tried a cigarette in my life it’s really fucking depressing, I’ve not gone down the filler route yet for safety reasons and the only thing that has stopped me is the risk of going instantly blind which although rare, is a risk, if that’s wasn’t a factor I would definitely have it but I’m too scared to risk my sight. I’m so fed up as I want to get rid of these lines and apart from filler I don’t think there is an alternative.

biglipslittleblips · 10/10/2024 20:38

@MeowCatPleaseMeowBack 😂😂😂I don't have filler. But I'm honest enough to say some people have had fantastic filler and look amazing. If I felt I would benefit I would 100% have it but so far I don't feel like it's something of benefit from.

But I'll defend anyone's choice to have it.

What is crap is people banging on about something 'potentially' being carcinogenic but merrily partaking in things that are 'known' as carcinogenic

It's called being irrational or 'being stupid'

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 10/10/2024 20:50

It’s not done to look good, it’s done as a status thing - shows you can afford to do it

I couldn't disagree more - the people I see with their lips done, etc. definitely don't look like they're rolling in money. In fact, quite the opposite 😬

Yes I'd agree these are a definite improvement, but you've chosen fairly extreme examples of receding chins. There are some cases like these where cosmetic surgery is brilliant. Would this have been done with normal filler though, or something more permanent?

But most people having filler are doing it either to try to look younger, or to conform to current trends about 'beauty' (like the big lips and glassy foreheads). Neither look good to me.
