To be glad that people are realising the effects of filler!

Just that really. It's been advertised by the media, plastic surgeons and the beauty industry for years as a safe, temporary procedure, however evidence is now finding that that is not the case at all!
I'm glad the truth is coming out now although it's still so new I expect we won't know the full damage for years too come.

I also found this video particularly interesting if anyone else is interested:

I have had it done three times but don't fancy it done again. I just had a low amount of filler each time. I looked fresher but nobody could tell.

I know people who have had it and look awful and of course i would never tell them. I don’t think they realise that they look awful and am sure they think they look great.
It’s hard to see yourself objectively.
Also what looks nice when you’re looking at your relaxed face in the mirror doesn’t always look nice when your face is animated. My best friend looks great when her face isn’t moving. The moment she smiles it sadly looks awful around her eyes and nose.
I wouldn’t dream of telling her 😩

Jessie1259 · 10/10/2024 08:49

It's so sad. People need to fix their self esteem not their faces.

Pandasodium · 10/10/2024 08:52

Who would have thought having a questionable substance injected by people with minimal training might carry some risks? It's a shame people feel the risk is worthwhile when it invariably also looks awful.

sonofrageandlove · 10/10/2024 08:58

HollyLollyMollyJolly · 10/10/2024 08:26

Or so you think. How would you know that nobody could tell? It's not as if they'd tell you about it. It's usually very obvious - just that a few people look nicer afterwards but most look awful or very typically filled and botoxed - which is a specific way most people seem to look afterwards.

Exactly, everyone can tell they are just too polite to say it looks tacky

Ivymedication · 10/10/2024 08:58

I've really gone back and forth on getting it done.
I have really thin lips which I've always hated, and a downturned mouth which reads as grumpy bitch.
I've even paid for the assessment and found put what I "need", which obviously was a lot more than what I wanted.

But it's the expense/the cycle of needing it done/people obviously knowing I've suddenly gone up a lip size and now look happy all the time.

I was recently at am event with DH, it was very much a wives and girlfriends tag along. The men were from 18 to 60 odd with plus ones.
It was so odd.

The men generally looked their age but especially amongst the younger women, so many had fillers that I had no idea how old they were. Some were v early 20s and could have been 40s. Some 40s possibly could have been 20s. They were all lumped together in this uncanny valley group.

It was only when we sat for dinner did you get a rough estimate of their age as they sat down beside their partner who was easier to gauge (Obviously age difference relationships exist but I couldn't add that to the mix, far too complex)

So I think I'm off the filler train again and back to acceptance and skincare.

This is the thing, exactly. Put more succinctly than me. I met someone recently through work who had had a lot done, quite good quality I imagine but I assumed she was at least 10 years older than me. I was so shocked to discover she was a year younger ! Mid 30s.

moonplop · 10/10/2024 09:04

I get filler. I am aware of the risks and it's worth it to me. Everyone needs to make their own choices. I do however, find it strange that people are frothing over filler when alcohol is a group 1 carcinogen and also causes cancer (especially hormonal based cancers) and yet alcohol is available in every corner shop, supermarkets and petrol stations.

My point is, if you are looking at societal harm then alcohol should also be top of the list as its used far more widely than filler.

KateMiskin · 10/10/2024 08:15

I don't do any things known to cause cancer. I don't drink or smoke and my BMI is below 25 though I could lose half a stone.
The reason I have never got fillers isn't anything to do with cancer though. I have other reasons.

Well you're living arent you? That is known to cause cancer

KateMiskin · 10/10/2024 09:07

@moonplop you are not wrong about alcohol and UPF but that is a massive and complex problem to fix!

@PepaWepa
@offyoujollywelltrot
@KendraTheVampyrSlayer

So you don't have any stats or actual evidence of filler causing cancer but are ok with alcohol?

Alcohol is KNOWN to cause cancer. So I guess none of you drink alcohol. It would be peculiar to avoid something that has no actual cancer risk evidence whilst happily partaking in something known to increase the risks of cancer 😑

www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/causes-of-cancer/alcohol-and-cancer/how-does-alcohol-cause-cancer

I don't drink. I also don't smoke. I don't vape. I think all three should be banned. HTH.

KateMiskin · 10/10/2024 09:10

@soupfiend That's rather a bizarre excuse for not trying to stay healthy
Everybody gets cancer anyway so you might as well smoke, drink and be obese!

Its not always possible to tell, someone at work had some filler as she had lost weight and aged anyway during that time and I was amazed when she said she had filler.

Its not obvious and as someone else has posted some photos of chins that have been improved, that wouldnt be obvious either if you didnt know them before they had the work done.

Alcohol is poison.

You're free to get as many fillers as you like, but when it migrates and/or blocks your lymph nodes and you end up ill, you'll be sorry.

Newterm · 10/10/2024 09:13

I follow several injectors on nstagram. I find the whole thing fascinating. I’ve noticed that girls start with having their lips done. Then they get their chins ‘enhanced’ to balance out the profile. Then they have their nose injected and then have the jaw line added to.

It has a knock on effect, and it's addictive.

Shame younger people are using fillers I.e in there 20s to fill an image they think society approves off.

It is low self esteem and plays havoc with mental health.

Of course everyone should avoid proven carcinogenics but also be extremely cautious of things of which we need time to tell.

I would take this whole clip with a grain of salt, given this photo of Sophie Monk (on the right) is fake.

If they’re using a fake photo as an example, I just can’t take this seriously.

Pyjamatimenow · 10/10/2024 09:22

I think it’s not so bad if you’ve sagged but plumping up already plump young skin is madness. What I notice is that in older women it looks ok for that first few years and then it starts looking hard and mask like. Amanda Holden and Tess Daley are examples of this ( Amanda more so). I remember a couple of years ago DH saying about Tess whatever she had done is very good. This year I notice it all looks a lot harder. Idk whether it’s a build up of filler over time or putting more and more in but it’s def not looking natural

Erm, Im not sure I said that did I? Where have I said everyone gets cancer and that you might as well smoke drink etc?

You said, you dont do anything that causes cancer, well living in general means you have a risk of cancer. Some other things that people do may or may not increase that risk, but we all have a risk of it, even people with clean lives (Im one of them)

Ok. I will do the best I can then. Short of giving up living.

Badgerandfox227 · 10/10/2024 09:25

So many young women in their 20’s and 30’s are having it done and it makes them look 40+ instantly. It’s not for me, I just hope those that have it done don’t regret it

Lael Hansen is another anti filler YouTuber, I have been watching a couple of her videos lately and they are very well made. She has one video about veneers that is really interesting.

What's wrong with veneers? 😩

Nothing per se - I suspect the maker of the video is conflating veneers with crowns as so many people seem to!

Sparxdislike · 10/10/2024 13:35

My friend that's early 30's wants Botox. I did ask if she had seen it can gone wrong. I think people should be aware of pros and cons and make an informed choice . She wasn't aware and is thinking about it. I don't honestly think she needs them but it's her body and her choice 🤷‍♀️
