To be glad that people are realising the effects of filler!

Just that really. It's been advertised by the media, plastic surgeons and the beauty industry for years as a safe, temporary procedure, however evidence is now finding that that is not the case at all!
I'm glad the truth is coming out now although it's still so new I expect we won't know the full damage for years too come.

I also found this video particularly interesting if anyone else is interested:

What is crap is people banging on about something 'potentially' being carcinogenic but merrily partaking in things that are 'known' as carcinogenic

It's called being irrational or 'being stupid'

For someone who does not have a vested interest in this industry you sure spend enough time bleating about defending it.
Please leave the message about the impact of known carcinogenics to the professionals.
They do well in getting there messages out.
But sadly fillers and botox will follow.
Matter of time.
Enjoy making the 💰 out of peoples vulnerabilities.

Good for you 😂 but rational people don't base their decisions on what some random person on mumsnet thinks

Personally, I think those who think fillers are completely fine and safe are the irrational ones.

offyoujollywelltrot · 10/10/2024 21:20

It's all really sad. I am 47 and my ageing has shown itself with sagging rather than wrinkles. My lips that were once full, have shrunk a bit and I was considering a very small amount of filler for them. I have always had this little voice in the back of my head that kept saying no, so I haven't. After seeing that video and doing some reading, I definitely won't.

I think in another ten years we will see lots and lots of cases where people are very ill because of them.

biglipslittleblips · 10/10/2024 21:22

@Gummybear23
Of course there are negatives. But I don't need to discuss those as you are doing this. I am merely providing some balance.

Like anything, poorly done it's shocking

biglipslittleblips · 10/10/2024 21:24

@Gummybear23 you dint see the irony of your comments do you.

Leave the discussion about carcinogens to the pros. Then you go on to state that fillers will be proven to cause cancer. Because what? You feel it in your bones? The runes? The tea leaves?
You are funny

I simply don't like people with no knowledge but lots of 'theories' banging on big like they know things.
You don't. You do however seem VEEEERRRY invested

You are right I'm very passionate about potential risks and lack of available information regarding this industry.

I am interested in vulnerable people being emotionally forced into making decisions to fit in.

This industry is about exploiting people's vulnerabilities.

Anything that blocks lymphatic system is dangerous.
Matter of time.
But by then you bank account will be full so what do you care.

So you don't have any stats or actual evidence of filler causing cancer but are ok with alcohol?

Alcohol is KNOWN to cause cancer. So I guess none of you drink alcohol. It would be peculiar to avoid something that has no actual cancer risk evidence whilst happily partaking in something known to increase the risks of cancer 😑

www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/causes-of-cancer/alcohol-and-cancer/how-does-alcohol-cause-cancer

Whether or not it leads to cancer will not be determined overnight, as per the link to alcohol which has been around a whole lot longer - however, blocking the lymphatic system of the face (hint: close to the brain and major lymph channels) is never a good idea.

summerlemons · 10/10/2024 21:54

I don’t understand the appeal if I’m honest. It doesn’t make you look younger or more attractive - just alien-like and also rather insecure and shallow (neither of which are attractive traits!) Why not just grow older, wrinkles and all?

Skirtandshirt · 10/10/2024 22:16

I am not sure why people are staying it’s a status symbol? Where I live it’s definitely part of a look that is explicitly associated with poverty. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an affluent-looking woman with fillers. It’s like those extremely long eyelashes or orange tan.

IMO this makes it even worse. Such a waste of money, for women who don’t have much money to begin with. It’s taking advantage of them.

NoSourDough · 10/10/2024 22:31

I have a client who runs her own aesthetic clinic and uses Botox and filler heavily herself. She’s a mature woman in her personality and, I thought she was at least 38 when I first met her. Turns out she’s 27. The fillers and Botox have aged her - considerably.

biglipslittleblips · 10/10/2024 22:41

@Gummybear23
Why would my bank account be affected?
I work in financial services 🫤

Actually you seem very invested for somebody who claims to have had no filler and is not involved in the industry.

Oh well, play stupid games then you win stupid prizes!

as many have already said, people that have this work done end up looking older trying to look young rather than just looking young

I have opinions on many things I have no direct connection to. Don't you?
Transgender

Skinny jeans

I amazed the only things you hold strong opinions on are things you are involved in personally. Bit odd.

OptimismvsRealism · 11/10/2024 08:06

I've had filler for years. You wouldn't know because I don't look "the type". It takes about five years off, I'd say. I'm sure as everything ages more the benefit will decrease but for now I'm very pleased. I think some people want to believe horror stories because ageing stops being fair at 40+ if you're willing to spend some cash.

Obviously it's what's inside that counts.

Yes I have an opinion on fillers. They look fucking horrific and age people by 20 years. 20 year old girls look older than me and I'm 35.
That's my opinion.

I have strong opinions on transgenders, but that's a whole other thread.

I think we can largely concur here that you're the one being odd.

Pusheen467 · 11/10/2024 09:09

Some of the comments are this thread are fucking awful. Congrats on being superior to the "easily influenced sheep" and all the other names people who have filler have been called on this post.

As I mentioned upthread I had very small amounts of filler after a bulimia relapse because my face looked terrible due to the weight loss. Not saying no one can tell but I asked for subtle and I think that's what I got. I still think I look my age, just less shit.

And yeah no shit I'm insecure. I don't give a fuck if people don't like the look of filler or don't want it because of potential risks but you're not superior because you chose not to get it. I decided against getting breast implants largely due to the health risks but I don't think I'm better than those who chose differently.

MangoRose · 11/10/2024 09:12

Badly done fillers look awful, people seem to confused fillers with botox, it's mostly the fillers that make people look like aliens. Too much botox in forehead makes eyelids droop, a good practitioner would do it in stages to avoid this.

My friend had tear trough fillers and small amount of botox in forehead. I have seen plenty of people with it but I honestly didn't realise what it was but she looked great and really refreshed, not tired and lovely glowing skin. She had clearly been to a very good person.

Too many of my friends who were stunning before look a bit disfigured TBH, its definitely the fillers that cause this. I'd happily have a little bit of botox but would stay clear of fillers due to how they look most of the time, not sure that video would be what stopped me really.

Badly done Fillers along with huge lips and BBLs will be the mullets and mod cuts of the 20s. Looking back in 15 years will be like when you look back on your FB profile to 2008 when you used to upload 87 pictures of a WKD fuelled piss up on a random Wednesday night.
