He called a wasp a moron at dinner

Ok, this isn't a serious thread exactly just a weird moment

So I was having dinner with my partner, a very nice outdoor meal. Very romantic and looking into each other's eyes etc.

Then a wasp came along and dropped into his wine. He responded by saying 'get out of there you moron' which caused the couple next to us of stop talking and stare at him then me. He then gave the wasp a small pep talk after rescuing it.

I felt embarrassed as I felt it was a really OTT response! I wanted to say was it really necessary to verbally abuse that wasp but seemed an odd thing to say...it just felt like a very angry response

My mistake, moron and idiot aren’t on the list, but cretin is. I can’t see why moron and idiot wouldn’t be as they are in the same bracket in my opinion.

The list is attached, flagged as sensitive.

Ooh I call myself a member of the god squad as do a lot of our church members.
We thought it made us appeal to the younger church goers. Ooops

DarkForces · 06/10/2024 17:44

I think anyone who gives a drunken wasp a pep talk is excellent marriage material

Prescottdanni123 · 06/10/2024 17:44

I would have just laughed. Nothing OTT about it

What are the words in blue? I don't see anything wrong with homosexual? I don't go around calling people names of any kind, but I don't see that as a "red flag" word.

Mochudubh · 06/10/2024 17:45

Is his name Holden?

Thomasina79 · 06/10/2024 17:45

I hate wasps and am scared of them having been badly stung several times. I have called them worse words than that!

It sounds sweet. He didn’t even say f*cking moron, which would have put me off a bit.

LurkingFromTheShadows · 06/10/2024 17:45

😂😂😂

PrueHal · 06/10/2024 17:45

Mind you after dinner he said 'i bet the other diners thought I was mad' so maybe he had some self awareness about it.

Maybe I need to try being less self conscious/anxious. Not so easy but I think that's where it's coming from.

Lots missing the point.

I suspect the other people looked as they thought he was calling you the moron.

AmeliaEarache · 06/10/2024 17:46

Idiot, moron, lunatic, nutter... all in fairly common usage in our house, usually about the animals. Who are, in fact, idiots, morons, lunatics and nutters.

Especially the cats - one's a moron, the other is a nutter.

A wasp in the wine is definitely a moron.

DarkForces · 06/10/2024 17:43

On what planet is homosexual an insult? 🤦🏽‍♀️

I know. I did raise an eyebrow very high at that one. I believe, as said by a pp, it’s the intent rather than the actual meaning.

DarkForces · 06/10/2024 17:46

Wasps are twats

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 06/10/2024 17:46

Bloody hell, that wasp is lucky it flew into your boyfriend's glass and not mine.

I wouldn't have "verbally abused" it, I'd have fucking killed it.

Puddlewoman · 06/10/2024 17:46

What did the pep talk consist of? Was it advice on what to do in case of a little waspy hangover or how to avoid enticing glasses of wine in the future.
Also was it red or white?

Lifeomars · 06/10/2024 17:47

When I am trying my hardest to chase a fly out of the window I have been known to say "fuck off out of my house you nasty thing" as I flap a duster at it and try to encourage it to fly out of the window. I am not a fan of the cold weather but the absence of flies is very welcome

EerieSilence · 06/10/2024 17:47

I've called wasps little stripy cunts in public. I feel zero shame about being nasty to those annoying little feckers. But thank's for giving me a good laugh.

TofuTart · 06/10/2024 17:47

😂

Poor wasp though. Maybe it was just thirsty.

Demonhunter · 06/10/2024 17:48

Did you call the police? Outrageous abusive behaviour.

Bellatrixpure · 06/10/2024 17:48

Glad he rescued it, you’re overthinking and seem a bit uptight. The other couple were nosy and rude to stare.

No problem. To be fair I've probably called them all sorts in my own home but think I'd hold it in in a restaurant.

I feel like a member of Downton Abbey here. 'Have some decorum' 😂

@BiscuitlyBoyle
I had diversity training a few weeks ago and we were told that moron was no longer acceptable.

That makes me want to say it even more than I do already. Roll on next summer so I can shout it at wasps. Grin

Here is a quote from the training to explain the words in blue and homosexual.

The words in blue above are words that used to be in common usage in British English. They are no longer
considered appropriate. Whilst ‘homosexuality’ as a noun is still widely used, to refer to a person as a
homosexual is considered outdated and potentially offensive, as it has been used as a term of abuse.

This is all from the training and not my personal opinion

Italian white wine.

Did the wasp say it's feelings were hurt?

I bet it was a millennial. Far too sensitive.
