He called a wasp a moron at dinner

Ok, this isn't a serious thread exactly just a weird moment

So I was having dinner with my partner, a very nice outdoor meal. Very romantic and looking into each other's eyes etc.

Then a wasp came along and dropped into his wine. He responded by saying 'get out of there you moron' which caused the couple next to us of stop talking and stare at him then me. He then gave the wasp a small pep talk after rescuing it.

I felt embarrassed as I felt it was a really OTT response! I wanted to say was it really necessary to verbally abuse that wasp but seemed an odd thing to say...it just felt like a very angry response

No!

My point was we were having a nice meal and him calling the wasp a moron caused other diners to look at him like he was mad. I was embarrassed

Oh, wait, was he yelling and/or gesticulating wildly when he said it?

I actually think that's fairly amusing, especially him giving the wasp a pep talk.
Are you quite an uptight person?

Not usually.

I suspect the diners looked over because he thought he was calling you a moron. I'd just have laughed at him, because it sounds pretty funny.

He sort of yelled and gesticulated yes

Same. I think rescuing it and giving it a pep talk was kind of endearing.

OhmygodDont · 06/10/2024 17:18

I’ve of called it worse hate the stingy bastards. Prob would of got a “fuck if ye bastard”

WhatFlavourIsIt · 06/10/2024 17:18

I was being dive bombed by a wasp in a beer garden last weekend. I told it to fuck off as I swatted it away. I hope I didn't hurt it's feelings😃

The pep talk was nicer than the yelling and cursing I admit

Maybe a PP is right

Maybe the diners thought he was calling me a moron, hence the response

A wasp diving into a glass of liquid is a moron.

A partner who then gives the moron a pep talk instead of bludgeoning it to death sounds like a keeper.

StarSlinger · 06/10/2024 17:20

If the wasp was drunk from the wine I'm surprised it didn't try to have a fight with your DP.

Pippa12 · 06/10/2024 17:21

Moron really isn’t a bad word- it’s not even a swear word, well certainly not in the north west!

Dontlletmedownbruce · 06/10/2024 17:21

I'd feel grateful. If you were with my DH he would scream like a little girl and run away from the table. If he did address the wasp personally it would be a lot more abusive than moron.

So now he didn't just call a wasp a moron, but he was also yelling and cursing and gesticulating? 🤔

Catapultaway · 06/10/2024 17:22

You should definitely LTB and start dating the wasp instead, you sound a better match.

I think you are the problem.
Over analyzing everything.
Best you move on and give the partner a chance to escape.

Is that you Sharon? Only ye olde Mumsnetters will get this.

He yelled you moron! While gesticulating yes

But it was followed with a pep talk so maybe I'm being too harsh

Get over yourself.

‘left me feeling weird’

Yes he's a bit eccentric

Most of the time I don't mind, other times I just want a quiet under the radar meal

The wasp had other ideas
