A duvet that never has a cover on

Is this weird?

Buying a duvet from Primark etc and not buying a duvet cover, just using this duvet as it is?

Anyone do this?

No one round here accepts bedding, charity shops, shelters, dog & cat home.

Grim to sleep under all that plastic then just chuck it and replace, so wasteful.

Yes same here, you literally cant give stuff away, it all has to go down the dump. For weeks now the local charities havent been taking donations so the car is full of bags and I have no where to go with it

What brand washer dryer is this? Model?

It's an indesit iwdc 65125. It has express wash and dry that's 15 mins. My 10.5 tog just fits in. It's a 6kg wash and 5kg dry.

Great for quickly getting wet swim gear sorted as well 😀

i was very sad when i visited a male friend, wife in hospital, no cover on his dc duvet.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 07/10/2024 10:50

I have a light duvet and much prefer it without the cover on. I put the cover on top.

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 07/10/2024 10:53

I hate changing duvet covers so I use an old fashioned flat sheet between me and the duvet. I have a few light weight bedspreads/throws to cover the duvet and make the room look nice when I make the bed in the morning.

WTAFisthisnonsense · 07/10/2024 11:11

I can understand for some people, putting a duvet in its cover is very tricky if not impossible. In those circumstances I would suggest using a flat sheet between the sleeper and the duvet - like we did with blankets - to keep the duvet fresh.

TeaAndCakeFTW · 07/10/2024 11:58

Has op said WHY she wants to do this? Is it a physical issue or just can't be fucked?

Buying a new duvet every few weeks rather than just change the cover regularly is a bit extreme if it's just laziness.

And to the pp above that said it's hard for short people, I'm 5 foot and I manage to change my king-size duvet cover regularly 😵‍💫

soupfiend · 07/10/2024 11:59

Why did someone invent that the OP was short anyway, where did that come from?

You have a combo washer and dryer that will wash and dry a duvet in 15 minutes?

Combo washer dryers aren’t common here in Australia, but I did use a few of them on our recent trip to the UK and they were terrible. Seemed to wash ok, but the drying took hours and hours, even overnight. We usually still had to hang clothes as they were still damp.

If I could get one that did the whole process in 15 minutes I’d definitely buy one.

its obviously for things needing quick freshen up though. Not heavily stained.

GameofPhones · 07/10/2024 13:13

I'm considering getting a coverless duvet, but still finding it hard to believe that they dry quickly.

coffeeneeded · 07/10/2024 14:09

I just washed my king size coverless duvet this morning. Dried it in the tumble in an hour and now it's back on my bed.

soupfiend · 07/10/2024 14:14

I think the point is people are talking about tumbledrying. If you dont have one, its different. If you have one, the duvet covers are going to dry as quick as that anyway

coffeeneeded · 07/10/2024 14:19

Without tumbling it takes 24 hours to dry- just like a regular cover would. Unless it's nice weather and you can hang it outside

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 07/10/2024 15:43

superking duvet covers take around 8hrs to dry in normal room conditions in my house.

FelixtheAardvark · 07/10/2024 15:56

Treat mine like an eiderdown. No cover and a sheet underneath.

I got a coverless duvet off amazon last week. Put it in the washer dryer this weekend (didn’t really need it but anyway). 15 min express wash and dry and it came out washed and dried. In 15 mins! 😀put some fabric conditioner in as well and it smells and feels lovely. Learned about them on MN 😀

What kind of cycle washes and dries in 15 mins? That's got to be like a 7-8 min wash cycle 🫤

Well the duvet comes out nice and fresh smelling and dry. It’s maybe magic 😁

the coverless duvets are not as thick as ordinary ones. My one anyway. They are denser I think. Same warmth packed into smaller space.

Calamitousness · 07/10/2024 17:39

I have all coverless duvets. They are designed differently and get washed weekly and dry really quickly. They’re great.

Gettingbysomehow · 07/10/2024 17:42

I have a king sized coverless duvet. It's dry in one hour slung over a door or banisters. Night owl brand. Looks pretty too.
Ordinary duvet no too difficult to wash and dry.

biglipslittlehips · 07/10/2024 17:42

I just looked at the specs of your machine. It says WASHES in 15 mins washes and dries in 35 minutes

Depends on the wash and dry temperature you set. The instructions are the worst part of the machine. They are way out.

PuppyMonkey · 07/10/2024 17:44

I have a coverless duvet, I’m not sure what it’s made of but it dries really quickly. It doesn’t come out of the washing machine as wet as a regular duvet. However, whatever it’s made of also brings on my hot flushes something rotten so I’ve given it to my DD.

Fightingon · 07/10/2024 17:46

My son does this because of his ASD I’ve tried all the covers over the years

I leave it set for a 15 min wash and dry as I wash wet swimming gear every day.
