For my birthday my MIL bought me Dior soap annd hand lotion and body cream - lovely, but very expensive and a waste of money and definitely not something I’d buy myself.

Anyway, I wore the body cream and my friends complimented me and asked what it was. Friend asked what soap - I made a joke that I put it in the guest bathroom so it would rarely be used and showed her a photo and she said “oh they’re very small”

They are literally full sized soap and hand lotions. And whenever she shows me something new I’m always very complimentary.

I know it’s insignificant but it’s bloody soap, there wasn’t a need for any put downs.

My daughter saved up to buy me Dior soap one Christmas and I bloody loved it. It made the whole bathroom (and me) smell fabulous.

I just had a look - she's right, they are small. Not "bar of soap" sized at all. For a gift of soap and hand cream I think I'd have guessed full sized too, because I have no experience of teeny fancy soaps that smell lovely, just regular ones. I don't think she was trying to be mean.

Also, OP didn't say anything about her MIL or the gift to her friend. Friend smelled the soap on her and OP told her what it was.

Not at all @Tellysavelas all my responses have been genuine, I just find it bizarre how the thread turned from someone asking AIBU, the majority saying yes and then being accused of being goady. I’m not going to report anything, I just find it odd how it turned so nasty. It’s a shame. People are only taking the time to give their opinion, which is what the OP asked for.
