Who is bu regarding lifts?

There are two people. Gordon and Billy.

Billy is giving Gordon a lift regularly. That's fine and Billy doesn't mind at all under the circumstances. Without going into it all it's a reasonably arrangement.

But when Billy goes to pick Gordon up Billy texts Gordon just as he's leaving to say "on way". It's a 2 minute drive away.

When Billy arrives, he's having to wait several minutes for Gordon to come out to the car and is getting annoyed.

Gordon says that Billy should text again to say that he's there, but Billy thinks as he's helping Gordon, that Gordon should be ready and waiting at the door.

Who is bu?

Billy should tell Gordon to make other arrangements.

Is Billy arriving at the same time every day? If so Gordon is unreasonable as he knows when to be ready. If the time varies billy is unreasonable as two minutes notice is too short.

Billy should text that he is outside when he is leaving. Problem solved.

HollyKnight · 30/09/2024 02:33

Hmm my friend lives 2 minutes away too. I usually text about 5 mins before I leave to say I'm leaving in a minute, and then I text when I'm outside her house to say I'm there. This is because she might not see the first message - or even get it - right away. Yes, I'm doing her a favour, but I don't think that means she needs to bow and scrape to me. I wouldn't expect her to stand outside in the cold waiting for me.

So for me, unless they are late getting to wherever they are going, I think Billy is being a bit of a twat for being annoyed about having to wait a few minutes.

suburberphobe · 30/09/2024 02:39

Is Gordon even paying his way for these lifts? Petrol and the like, when the car has to go into the garage for repairs?

If not, Billy is an idiot.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 30/09/2024 07:05

For people who haven’t RTFT, Billy does come at the same time & Gordon makes him wait 10-20 minutes.

PattiSmithsPattis · 30/09/2024 07:25

Maybe Gordon is too busy snogging Julie? 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you order an uber you are charged waiting time. And some drivers don't wait at all if they (can't see you/haven't arrived at the correct location) are busy.
Actions speak louder than words.
Leave Gordon waiting. Until the next day or whenever suits Billy next (although I think you should have gone with Jonnie because those sketches were hilarious 😂)

JustWalkingTheDogs · 30/09/2024 07:54

Me and a colleague used to give each other lifts and did exactly as you mentioned in your scenario. As soon as I got the text I'd grab my phone, bag, coat etc and wait by the door until I saw him pull up. He's so the same with me.

If I was your dh it would piss me right off. Sounds like your dh has got a few options

  1. Carry on as normal
  2. Do what he asks and text when he arrives
  3. Move the time forward by 10 mins so your DH isn't late to work
  4. Tell Gordon he needs to make alt arrangements
anon666 · 30/09/2024 08:10

Gordon might be about to lose his lift if he doesn't start to be a bit more grateful. 🤣

Member984815 · 30/09/2024 08:14

When you're getting a lift you should be out waiting not inconveniencing the other person kind enough to help

SGANDRUE · 30/09/2024 08:17

I had this issue picking up a mate to go to uni together (mature students) he was so laid back and unreliable. He'd always keep me waiting outside his house. My Dh said to make it clear you will be outside his house until X time and then just leave if he's a no show. It puts the ball in their court. Its now firmly their fault that they have missed their ride.

Jilted John would probably tell you that Gordon is a moron.

Yes, I know the lyrics are misogynistic, and nearly 50 years old, but I couldn't resist it 😂

Love this song. Agree he's a moron

BlastedPimples · 30/09/2024 13:43

Nobody has to stand outside in the cold. Just be ready. It's so easy. And if it's not easy, bin it.

Goodtogossip · 02/10/2024 14:56

Tell Billy to text 15 minutes before he leaves saying 'leaving now' that way Gordon should be ready as he was expecting him 15 minutes ago.

AmIEnough · 03/10/2024 07:39

Is a disrespectful twat!

BlastedPimples · 03/10/2024 08:21

Any update, op?

hopeishere · 03/10/2024 10:55

Billy should just text "here now" when he is leaving.
