Who is bu regarding lifts?

Nostalgianostalgic · 28/09/2024 17:12

There are two people. Gordon and Billy.

Billy is giving Gordon a lift regularly. That's fine and Billy doesn't mind at all under the circumstances. Without going into it all it's a reasonably arrangement.

But when Billy goes to pick Gordon up Billy texts Gordon just as he's leaving to say "on way". It's a 2 minute drive away.

When Billy arrives, he's having to wait several minutes for Gordon to come out to the car and is getting annoyed.

Gordon says that Billy should text again to say that he's there, but Billy thinks as he's helping Gordon, that Gordon should be ready and waiting at the door.

Who is bu?

cross posted @Justcallmebebes that was me stopping to google how old it was 😋

“Gordon, if you can’t be ready, waiting on the pavement to jump in, I’m going to stop coming”

Dawevi · 28/09/2024 17:40

Gordon should take the text as notice to get outside and wait. Two minutes is nothing so he can just wait outside for Billy to arrive.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 28/09/2024 17:41

Gordon needs to be at the door and ready.

Delphiniumandlupins · 28/09/2024 17:43

If Gordon was asking for more notice that would be OK. But he's saying that he wants a lift but can't be arsed to wait outside for 2 minutes (or stand in his doorway if it's raining) so he's obviously unreasonable.

goodboystepup · 28/09/2024 17:45

Gordon is being a dick.

Beautiful3 · 28/09/2024 17:46

I've had this with my teenage kids. Now I text to say, I'm here. Then they come out.

Reminds me of the song ... "Gordon is a Moron"

Thisisalsome · 28/09/2024 17:49

Gordon !

my mother used to do this to us - we gave her a lift every day as we’re taking kids to school. She was NEVER ready on time we had to wait, she wouldn’t walk them in even though she worked at the school she would just get out and walk off ! So we stopped doing it

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 28/09/2024 17:50

Gordon doesn't look good here, but perhaps Billy needs to work on his communication skills. He could explain that he's happy to offer lifts but that being expected to wait around or to text from outside Gordon's house makes him feel like an unpaid taxi service. So ''On my way' means 'go outside and stand in the road now'. Billy might add that not being ready is taking the piss.

Nostalgianostalgic · 28/09/2024 18:05

I know it doesn't take a second to text and say I'm here, but then Billy has got to wait for Gordon to get his shoes on and Billy is ending up waiting in the car for 5 over minutes.

From leaving to get to Gordon's house it really is only 2 minutes, so 'on way' means 2 minutes away.

Billy is my husband.

If I were Billy, I'd text just before I leave the house and say, 'I'm outside'.

By the time the 2 mins is up, Gordon will be ready.

KeziaOAP · 28/09/2024 18:13

Perhaps just say "I'm here" rather than "on way".

Mountainpika · 28/09/2024 18:25

Is the pickup time the same every day? If so, why text? Can't people do anything these days without having to use a phone? Only need to text if you're running late for some reason. Would never occcur to me to tell someone I was just on my way to pick them up at an arranged time. Rarely use a mobile phone, anyway.

silverandyellow · 28/09/2024 18:27

Gordon should be good and ready to go. But I do think 2 minutes is not a very long time. 5-10 mins heads up would be better I think

Calamitousness · 28/09/2024 18:28

Walk on Gordon.

Leeds2 · 28/09/2024 18:29

Billy should tell Gordon that, in future, if Gordon is not stood waiting on the pavement when Billy arrives, Billy will drive off without him. Suspect this only needs to happen once.

But Gordon knows that Billy is coming at a certain time anyway. It's already arranged.

The on way is literally just a heads up.

Gordon thinks that Billy should text again to say he's outside.

Gordon is being U and in danger of losing his lifts!

Gordon sounds deliberately difficult- like he wants to make a point.

I have a real issue with people who don’t realise having their shoes in is part of being ready! You don’t start putting your shoes in only once everyone else is ready to walk out the door, or in this case is waiting outside.

If you’re shoes aren’t on, you aren’t ready!

Hurrayforfridays · 28/09/2024 18:35

Gordon is being massively unreasonable. Someone is doing him a favour and he's keeping them waiting? I am someone who gets lifts - we arrange a time and I am ready and waiting to walk out the door at the agreed time (no texts) because anything else would be rude!

44PumpLane · 28/09/2024 18:39

Gordon is being a piss taker and maybe Billy needs to be unable to take him for a few weeks so Gordon realises how much easier his life is getting a lift and perhaps he could be the one ha going about for a minute or two in his hike wearing shoes so he's actually ready to go once he gets the text from Billy!

MidnightBlossom · 28/09/2024 18:42

Perhaps Gordon needs a reminder that he's getting a freebie lift from a mate, rather than ordering an Uber. So demanding text message notifications which essentially perform the office of "your driver is here", is a bit fucking cheeky.

He should be outside and waiting. Bill should tell him if he's not then he will drive on, and Gordon can make his own way.
