To think throwing soup over Van Gogh paintings won't stop oil.

There are other ways of protesting oil that make more sense than chucking soup over Van Gogh paintings. Or they need to explain why soup and why Van Gogh more clearly.

It’s just a way of getting attention isn’t it.

But why soup?

But why soup?

Because they're idiots

username4214 · 27/09/2024 16:23

They get in the news so they're drawing attention to their cause.

LadyGabriella · 27/09/2024 16:23

Glad to see they’ve recieved jail terms.

Begsthequestion · 27/09/2024 16:24

What other ways do you suggest, op?

Ivehearditbothways · 27/09/2024 16:24

It’s just for headlines and to draw attention. The actual act has nothing to do with stopping oil or the environment and it doesn’t have to. It’s about the attention it brings. Getting their cause into a headline.

Talkinpeace · 27/09/2024 16:26

And they have done it AGAIN, today

Attention, but not good attention

Bunch of wankers

Presumably it was orange.

We have these threads all the time.

What are these 'better ways' of drawing attention to the issue? What people usually mean by better is less disruptive or attention-grabbing ways of protesting.

I think the protestors know the majority of people prefer to ignore climate change.

Begsthequestion · 27/09/2024 16:34

Climate change may well be the death of all of us

But at least no picture frames will be harmed in the process, now the state has safely locked those two up.

Surely protesting outside the Chinese embassy a country which continues to build coal-powered fire stations and produces far more pollution than anything the UK produces would make people think these protestors are serious and not just privileged, attention seeking, middle class girls trying to be edgy.

Then JSO should be going after China and India before they start attacking works of art and inflicting harm on the UK general public.

I think that the sentences are really harsh

Harm on the uk general public? Like all the recent floods?

Elderberrier · 27/09/2024 16:45

I feel like JSO need a PR person. It’s like they consciously follow a model of ‘how can we completely alienate people and turn them away from an important cause by behaving like petulant arseholes?’

The idea is to force their own government (UK) to take the issue seriously enough

to stop doing deals with china and India, and get it to pressure those governments to act as well instead.

China’s emissions are so large because China is making plastic crap for UK (and other nationalities) consumers

Boomer55 · 27/09/2024 16:46

No, it won’t permanently damage the paintings. But, no one could ever accuse these protestors of being bright lol 🤷‍♀️

Surely getting their own UK government to take climate change seriously enough and pressure other governments too is more realistic?

Yes it’s all just very ‘rich kids and old hippies attention seeking through vandalism’ isn’t it. They could do so much and bring awareness and change but they are so deep down in the hole of arrogant destruction
