Child identifies as a wolf ... WTF?

Just on Radio 4 now, discussing a child in secondary school who identifies as a wolf, and the school is going along with this. AIBU to think the world (or at least the UK) has gone mad? If said child is living in the woods, catching its own prey etc etc, howling and running with other wolves, which I doubt, then why the hell is anyone going along with it? They are also saying that some others identify as dogs or cats etc. And here was me thinking men 'identifying' as women was bad.

I'm not about to listen to it, does it sound believable?
I've not ever heard a first hand believable account of this nonsense.
I want to believe it's true though because if a boy can become a girl by stamping his feet and blinking twice or whatever bullshit, then why not a cat or tiger or wolf

Why is a wolf in school? What if other children are scared of wolves? Allergic? Can the wolf eat the pupils and staff?

I can understand identifying with an animal, but not as an animal; and if you do identify strongly with an animal, I don't think external validation is necessary.

I hope the child is receiving help with their mental health.

There was a thread about this Therian/furry nonsense a while back. Some posters saying it was cute and innocent! Buying their kids "fur suits" and letting them talk in furry chat rooms.

Thankfully, the majority could see it for what it was (an adult fetish that children had accidentally got involved in). Also rather sad that children of a higher age (12 in some cases) were reverting back to this sort of stage of play (as they were apparently unaware of the sexual side of things).

I’ve heard that their are children at our local secondary identifying as a cat, they wear ears and a tail and go to the loo on the grass.

Why does a cat need to go to school?

The world has gone bonkers... Maybe the school cook should offer up a dead rabbit and tell them to eat it all up or they will get detention..

Oh, it's true. There's a boy in our village who does it. His mother supplies the outfits. Came to a BBQ dressed up, howling and grunting. He's an older brother of DS' friend. We've cut contact because we won't have DS around it, nor visiting a family who thinks their son being involved in a sexual fetish and forcing others to play along is okay.

I just found out from teenage DD that one of her friends is "therian". First time I've heard of it in real life, so to speak (live in a small town). Worries me but I haven't said anything to DD as she was very upset about the way some of the other girls have been talking, her whole group of friends are getting called furries and suchlike.

I fucking despair, honestly, why have adults lost the ability to tell children NO? We already have a generation of spoiled, idle and indulged brats as a result of 'gentle' (ie lazy) parenting.

Cats don't go to the loo on the grass. They dig a hole, cover it up. Then lick their paws and arse clean. If they are not doing that, they are not a cat.

Far cheaper to give them raw dead animals to eat and tell them to sleep in the woods.

I can't get too worked up about this stuff, it's stupid but they grow out of it. "Otherkin" was rife on Tumblr a decade or so ago but they've all grown up and moved on from it now. I went to school with a girl who was utterly convinced she was, and identified as a were wolf. She's a completely normal, boring person now who runs a launderette. It's very much a silly phase for 99.9% of people.

Really worrying times for our teenagers, who are already going through a challenging time in their lives with hormones all over the place.

Being a human is rubbish, I'd prefer to be an animal too.

This is what you get when you tell kids they can be anything they want.

Maybe a certain fast food chain is tampering with the food and causing this chaos among some teens?

I’ve heard of an American family who dealt with this with their tween by building an outside enclosure out of scrap wood and chicken wire and chucking some raw meat and telling the tween that if they’re a wolf that is where they will live.

On the other hand, if they want to sleep in the bedroom and have pizza on Saturday night, then they are a child and will dress and behave like one.

Apparently that solved the problem.
