Child identifies as a wolf ... WTF?

Portakalkedi · 27/09/2024 12:15

Just on Radio 4 now, discussing a child in secondary school who identifies as a wolf, and the school is going along with this. AIBU to think the world (or at least the UK) has gone mad? If said child is living in the woods, catching its own prey etc etc, howling and running with other wolves, which I doubt, then why the hell is anyone going along with it? They are also saying that some others identify as dogs or cats etc. And here was me thinking men 'identifying' as women was bad.

Why do people keep repeating this made up bollocks?

Let's hope there are no Haitians nearby who might eat it 🙄

TheSandgroper · 27/09/2024 13:03

I have decided that any girl or boy that has no idea what they are needs to spend six months with a Welsh hill sheep farmer, preferably in winter. Or being a Northern Territory jack/jillaroo.

With apologies to all the sheep farmers on here for suggesting they could be social workers in their spare time. I’m really not.

But it occurs to me that hard work, mother nature and looking after something other than themselves may not go amiss.

I'm never quite sure why this is clearly 'made up bollocks' whereas men identifying as women or vice versa is treated as deadly serious.

Any thoughts?

Joleyne · 27/09/2024 13:04

My DD did this during lockdown, when she was 11. She and her best friend both decided they were wolves and spoke to each other in Wolfish (yaps and yelps).

The school staff were quietly indulgent, but insisted on English in class.
They both grew out of it when the world got back to normal.

Lollll, exactly.

To anyone here saying "give it time" or "well it probably is happening somewhere" - YOU are the problem.

There are a handful of extremely mentally unwell children unable to get medical care and no longer sectioned/in institutions because of austerity. The rest is just bullshit hype that when proven wrong someone goes "oh well give it time!"

This is the very definition of fake news

Well wolves and cats etc get their medical care at the vets don’t they? No NHS waiting lists for them!

I was listening to this just earlier. While doing so, I found myself thinking that we have totally lost the plot as a society now. A couple of decades ago, it was the done thing to humour kids for their phases and foibles as they went through adolescence, to take it all fairly light heartedly and in good humour, but there were limits and kids respected that.

For example, I fancied myself as a bit of a goth when I was 13/14, and my mum humoured me and went along with it, buying me whatever gothy stuff I wanted for Christmas, allowing me to play my goth music in the car and not crying too much when I dyed my hair black and pierced my ears in several places. I knew however that I had to wear correct uniform for school and behave in a courteous and respectful manner. Not that being goth and being courteous are mutually exclusive ofc but you get my drift I hope. I dunno, there were just boundaries.

A couple of years later I moved on to the next thing, we had a bit of a laugh and I had a bit of a cringe but that was it. Nowadays, we have po-faced guest speakers on R4 actually trying to psychoanalyse this nonsense. These kids are never going to look back and see this light heartedly, instead they’ll see it as some kind of intrinsic psychological trauma personality trait thing that they’ll carry for the rest of their lives and what should be seen as a phase, a form of healthy rebellion even, is being taken way out of context and that is why I truly believe the world is going mad.

That’s exactly it! Too much indulgence these days and not enough hard work.

When did we lose the ability to say " But you clearly aren't....a man....a woman...a dog. ..a cat. No go and do your homework".

Badgerandfox227 · 27/09/2024 12:25

I’ve heard that their are children at our local secondary identifying as a cat, they wear ears and a tail and go to the loo on the grass.

This is just a rumor that scatologically-minded right wing paedophiles share.

It's culture-war stuff. A lot of which is amplified and encouraged by Russian disinformation to encourage division and so destabilise societies.

I agree with this

But there are kids who identify as animals, aren't there? I absolutely agree the stuff about litter trays and letting them shit on the grass is made up but furries are very real, and there are actually people who think these identities should be respected - one of them was featured in the Radio 4 discussion!

Izzy54321 · 27/09/2024 13:07

my DSD has a child in her class that identifies as a wolf, I haven’t listened to the show but I am already thinking is it the same school?. My DSD has told us about this child growling at her and other children. Also her family are all furries including the adults (yes I know)The school in question have drawn the line at her wearing a wolfs outfit to school, the child did try once. But I still think it’s utter madness to condone this behaviour.

Gettingbysomehow · 27/09/2024 13:07

If that was my teenager I'd be pointing to the local woods and saying that's your home now. Bye. I have no truck with this nonsense.

Because there are clearly transsexuals in society.

Zero evidence of this bullshit

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 27/09/2024 13:08

I want to identify as a rich lady with no job or children... just for a little while though.

TeapotCollection · 27/09/2024 13:09

I’m going to start identifying as a bird, flying around wherever and whenever I like and if anything or anyone pisses me off I’ll just shit on it

Settingson · 27/09/2024 13:09

I am so puzzled again. How/why is the school allowing a wolf in school amongst the children? Surely that’s dangerous like “oh our dog wouldn’t hurt anyone” type dangerous?

araiwa · 27/09/2024 13:08

Unusually, there does appear to be a basis to this wolf story (though quite what the truth of it is, who knows).

TheSandgroper · 27/09/2024 13:11

@ChungKing Yeah, furries are real. Always have been. They belong upstairs, in a seedy club in King’s Cross or Soho as adult men doing stuff good women ought not to think about.

Teenage girls joining this club is a dream come true for these men. Look up Jon Uhler on YouTube.

Yeah let’s blame the Russians for our utter inability to raise our children properly. We need to being back a bit of fucking discipline to these little darlings.

araiwa · 27/09/2024 13:08

How are you defining transsexual?

There are men who present as women and vice versa, but that doesn't mean they actually ARE the opposite sex. You know that, right?

And furries do exist. A quick google and you'll see sufficient evidence of this.

Why is a furry so different to a man presenting as a woman?

XenoBitch · 27/09/2024 13:13

I have a friend who spent some time in psychiatric units as a teen. She told me about a teen boy there who said he was a cat. He would meow and climb the furniture.
That is where these kids should be... in hospital. Not being pandered to in schools.

marmiteisnttheonlyspread · 27/09/2024 12:48

Was it on R4 or R2 and Jeremy Vine?

I've not listened to it yet but wonder if it's like little girls pretending to be horses?

You go along with it and normality soon pops back into view.

I spent a lot of school playtime pretending to be a pony. I took turns with my friend Lucy - one of us "riding" and the other one being a pony. Most of the girls in my class played as well.

We'd grown out of it by Y6 (top juniors in those days!). Crucially, we always knew we were PLAYING at being ponies, we didn't think we were ponies.

Good parenting 👏🏻👏🏻 well done them.

What a lot of self indulgent nonsense this is. I wanted to be a mermaid when I was young. If I’d insisted I was and they threw me in a pool I’d have probably drowned because I’d be the world’s only mermaid who couldn’t swim!

I very much doubt this is true but, even if it were, what a waste of time building an enclosure just to make a simple point.
