To be surprised by the amount of people on here who have no family and no friends to rely on

It always strikes me as odd that a couple only have each other and nobody else to call on , and this has been the same for years on here, it’s not a new thing.
Of course with the family, this could be by choice, but surely everybody has a mate or two left unless you live in total isolation

A friend of mine has me and her elderly mum who she could turn to, that's it and we don't speak everyday, infact when I am very busy it could be weeks between us speaking.

This has happened because her Dad/Dad's family aren't really in her life, her Mum's family is all gone, no siblings, shit ex Husband and a move a distance away for work which meant a lot of friends have fallen away.

As her Mum gets older and I grow my family, I do worry about her.

Surely she is capable of finding additional friends?

It is tough making new friends sometimes.

I have managed to create a nice circle of friends but it took a while, and a fair amount of effort. And probably luck, as one group of people led to me meeting a few more

Appreciate you are busy, but could you not perhaps try to include her in your own family? Not just for her benefit, but for yours too. If she is a nice person she would surely enhance your lives?
