F**king hats in restaurants

TomAllenWife · 22/09/2024 13:15

Is my new irritation!!!!

Stayed at a naive hotel last night, at breakfast this morning, two separate men wearing caps for in the restaurant .

On holiday in the summer (boiling hot) men had to wear long trousers for dinner, no shorts, but you could turn up in a baseball cap 🤔

When did this become acceptable?
I resist the urge to knock it off their heads?
I don't know why it makes me so irrationally angry either (peri)

Is it just me?

What's a naive restaurant?

What's a naive restaurant?

I think OP was going for the MN cliché of "naice" and got autocorrected

It's rude! It's scruffy!

And not appropriate indoors for a meal

I'm sick of everyone having an excuse for everything, DH had a hair transplant and still managed to eat in restaurants without a hat

He had a hair transplant? Most intriguing. Do you have a before and after picture? Disguise the face with an image of your choice 😊

And neither of these young men were bald and I find it unlikely that both had severe scarring needing a hat

More likely they are scruffy entitled Gen Zers

Whats scruffy or entitled about wearing a hat?

What's a naive restaurant?

One that specialises in ham

Wow

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 22/09/2024 14:08

What on earth is inherently scruffy about a hat?! Or does a hat magically change from ok to scruffy the moment one walks inside or sits down at a table or eats something? What a load of nonsense!

BunnyLake · 22/09/2024 14:08

I’d wouldn’t be awake enough to care about headwear at breakfast. Breakfast is surely the most casual of meal times (PJs would still be a no no).

Personally I don’t think think f*cking hats is acceptable anywhere, how gross 😁

I’m sick of people thinking they have the right to judge what others wear when it has fuck all to do with them.

Portfun24 · 22/09/2024 14:10

What's scruffy about wearing a hat. You need to chill the fuck out quite honestly, how uptight.

Ah ok so you’re just being ageist then. Yes, they’re so entitled for not adhering to your old fashioned sensibilities.

I don’t think it’s rude or scruffy.

As the restaurant doesn’t have this as part of their dress code, then they obviously don’t think so either.

Perhaps you should just dine at places which have a stricter dress code if this upsets you do much.

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 22/09/2024 14:11

Maybe they were celebrities who didn't want their faces seen clearly? I used to nanny for a high profile family and they'd always wear baseball caps in public.

You're describing people as entitled. They aren't the ones who feel they can dictate what other people can wear and wanting to assault them for not complying. You need therapy.

MinnieMountain · 22/09/2024 13:27

I'm peri-menopausal, but that’s an extreme thing to get worked up about.

You'd have a point if it was pyjamas.

People wearing PJs to breakfast in a hotel is not only slovenly, it's disrespectful to both guests and staff. Hats wouldn't bother me in the least. There could be a very valid reason.

Tulipsareredvioletsarebue · 22/09/2024 14:12
keeping up appearances 90s GIF

Actual footage of OP in those restaurants.

HeliotropePJs · 22/09/2024 14:13

This is something I have never understood. I remember growing up that boys were always reminded to remove their hats. This was the 80s/90s. I didn't really get it then, and I still find it baffling. It feels like a completely arbitrary rule of etiquette.

It will be far down my list of things to change, when I'm put into my well-deserved position as Ruler of the World.

Quacktastic · 22/09/2024 14:13

YABU not only for being bothered about hats, but also for not explaining what a naive hotel is.

I do love Hyacinth, though. Standards.

Choochoo21 · 22/09/2024 14:14

Yet you’ve tried using the excuse of being peri menopausal 🤔

Is it one rule for you and another for everyone else?

Bet1439h · 22/09/2024 14:14

OP you remind me of Victor Meldrew, and you seem bloody miserable, glad I don’t need to go to restaurants with you.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 22/09/2024 14:15

Some one mentioned fedora hats. I love a fedora hat.
