F**king hats in restaurants

TomAllenWife · 22/09/2024 13:15

Is my new irritation!!!!

Stayed at a naive hotel last night, at breakfast this morning, two separate men wearing caps for in the restaurant .

On holiday in the summer (boiling hot) men had to wear long trousers for dinner, no shorts, but you could turn up in a baseball cap 🤔

When did this become acceptable?
I resist the urge to knock it off their heads?
I don't know why it makes me so irrationally angry either (peri)

Is it just me?

I really couldn't care less

ClairDeLaLune · 22/09/2024 13:55

Young lad round our way had cancer and lost his hair to chemotherapy. He wears a cap all the time because he’s self-conscious of his hair loss. Would you like to knock his cap off OP? Stop being so fucking judgemental.

dudsville · 22/09/2024 13:55

I clicked on this thinking, "ok, surely there's more to it than the thread title suggests". I was wrong.

timeforanewmoniker · 22/09/2024 13:57

You'd lose it in the US, they wear caps and cowboy hats even in the most expensive restaurants.

I think it's for the best, it's really distracting when you're trying to eat and the spotlights are reflecting into your eyes from people's shiny bald noggins.

halava · 22/09/2024 13:49

MAGA hats would defo put me off my food.

Is this restaurant in the US by any chance? If in the UK, then standards are slipping. Now where are those pearls, I need to clutch them quick.

Well, quite. On another note, I always wear pearls to breakfast.

People are scruff bags. Sadly.

And some have skin cancer, some need to keep their heads covered due to treatment, scars, medication, hair loss, scalp and skin conditions, photophobia, sensory overload or simply like to wear a cap. .

TomAllenWife · 22/09/2024 14:01

It's rude! It's scruffy!

And not appropriate indoors for a meal

I'm sick of everyone having an excuse for everything, DH had a hair transplant and still managed to eat in restaurants without a hat

It's a smashing hat but why does your head look like it's been badly photoshopped onto someone else's body?

Dear Galileo, indeed, sometimes one's photographer lets one down. I usually rely on Lord Rosevere - Sykes, but I am sorry to say that he's been hitting the brandy lately. Possibly his ill judged adjustments are evident here.

TomAllenWife · 22/09/2024 14:02

And neither of these young men were bald and I find it unlikely that both had severe scarring needing a hat

More likely they are scruffy entitled Gen Zers

It annoys me too. But probably as it was ingrained in us to remove a hat when going indoors. Having plenty brothers and no sisters, I also removed any hats as it was what was expected of us all.

I don't think it is something that is taught as good manners now though. It's in the same category as using your utensils correctly, using a serviette etc etc. I'm older and probably old school thinking now ?

Happyher · 22/09/2024 14:03

A lot of men wear caps to cover their baldness.

I thought it was going to be a typo. Grin

I wouldn't even notice a man wearing a baseball cap in a restaurant unless it was very very formal. I'd say if jeans or shorts are ok, then so is a cap.

You're married to someone who was so self conscious about his baldness that he had a hair transplant, but you still can't understand why some men may wear a cap? Confused

I know it's an anonymous forum but are you not cringing with embarrassment at yourself here?

I mean given all the really good reasons some people have posted?

DappledThings · 22/09/2024 14:05

Annoys me too. But eating out I'm also wound up by other people who can't hold their cutlery properly and apparently we're not meant to judge that either.

DarkForces · 22/09/2024 14:05

Gosh. I think you'd be less angry if they'd actually been fucking inanimate objects on the table

Did you read my post about the young lad with cancer? You sound horrible OP.

AliBalliBoo · 22/09/2024 14:05

You sound really up yourself OP.

Mind your own fucking business
