F**king hats in restaurants

TomAllenWife · 22/09/2024 13:15

Is my new irritation!!!!

Stayed at a naive hotel last night, at breakfast this morning, two separate men wearing caps for in the restaurant .

On holiday in the summer (boiling hot) men had to wear long trousers for dinner, no shorts, but you could turn up in a baseball cap 🤔

When did this become acceptable?
I resist the urge to knock it off their heads?
I don't know why it makes me so irrationally angry either (peri)

Is it just me?

When I was in a restaurant the other day I said to my husband that people might think I'm rude for wearing a hat.

But I don't care because it helps with my photophobia and sensory overload.

I wondered of people still care about these things, apparently so!

It bugs the hell out of me too, OP, but clearly we are ridiculously old fashioned and unreasonable.

AmeliaEarache · 22/09/2024 13:31

Another one intrigued by the naive hotel - do they charge less than cynical ones?

Getting wound up about hats indoors seems a little outdated.

You've had several examples here of why people might wear hats at what you consider inappropriate moments. I suspect their discomfort if they were forced to remove them outweighs your annoyance. So yes, it is unreasonable

StudioCreate · 22/09/2024 13:33

I wear a hat at breakfast as I've had chemo and most of my hair has fallen out.

What do you mean by a naive hotel? Sorry if I'm being dim.

I reckon they meant naice and it autocorrected.

Mercurial123 · 22/09/2024 13:35

You're probably one of those people who are annoyed by most things OP.

DemonicCaveMaggot · 22/09/2024 13:35

My friend wears hats with visors, like baseball caps, to keep light out of her eyes as if it hits her eyes at a certain angle she gets horrible migraines.

Looking on the bright side, if someone is wearing a hat it is less likely a loose hair will get in your food.

FriYayyy · 22/09/2024 13:35

She was trying to call it a naice hotel and autocorrect changed it. Can people really not understand this? Confused

She also didn't mean that people were actually fucking their hats in the restaurant like her title suggests.

Workhardcryharder · 22/09/2024 13:35

Mind your own business maybe?! My thinning hair is not your problem but it is mine!

Trainstrike · 22/09/2024 13:36

Someone wore a cap in front of me in a West End show and it actually obscured some parts of the action. I had to swap with my taller husband for he second part. That did piss me off; I don't think breakfast would annoy me.

Tulipsareredvioletsarebue · 22/09/2024 13:37

Breakfast is far too early to fuck hats, poor hats.

At no point did I say that I would ever dream of “forcing” someone to remove their hat. Neither would I “gently request” it, or even raise an eyebrow or tut in their direction, so you’re being just a little dramatic.

SummaLuvin · 22/09/2024 13:38

I'm happy to say I've never found my company at a restaurant so boring that I've gotten het up by a strangers attire. Especially not to the level that I make a post on a forum about it. Perhaps work on your conversation skills?

MolkosTeenageAngst · 22/09/2024 13:40

Wouldn’t bother me, especially of it's not even somebody I'm dining with. Genuinely don't care what strangers are wearing to eat as long as they're not completely topless/ bottomless!

cariadlet · 22/09/2024 13:40

A baseball cap would irritate me but only because I have an irrational hatred of them, especially when worn back to front instead of using the flat part to keep the sun out of your eyes (which is why baseball players wore them originally).

I wouldn't be bothered by anyone wearing other kinds of hats indoors unless they were particularly tall and blocking my view eg at the cinema or theatre.

I didn't know it could be considered rude. It seems a matter of etiquette rather than manners.

Etiquette = rules or social conventions prevalent in a particular society at a particular time.

Manners are ways of behaving that show consideration and thoughtfulness to others.

I'm not confident I'd even notice.

@OrdsallChord

me either!

MaryofTeck · 22/09/2024 13:40

This is the hat I usually wear to breakfast. I hope it doesn't offend. For dinner, it's always a tiara.

Did you just mansplain the baseball cap to us? Fucking hell 🤣

It's a smashing hat but why does your head look like it's been badly photoshopped onto someone else's body?

ExquisiteEmelda · 22/09/2024 13:43

Well we were always taught that men take their hats off indoors but women don’t. But I never really understood why? 🤔

you nailed it!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 22/09/2024 13:44

I can’t get worked up about hats at all!

I know that in days gone by it wasn’t “done” to wear a hat indoors if you were male, but I don’t think it’s a thing any more.
