Went on a blind date on Friday night, nice looking guy, tall (6 ft 6) and handsome in a rough looking way, we got on very well and he liked me a lot, in fact he told me yesterday in a phone conversation, that when he saw me come across the pub car park he was blown away! but i didnt like his shoes and its really putting me off him....

In my effort to not let this affect my perception of him, i agreed to go out with him again yesterday for lunch, in hope he would be wearing better shoes.....

His shoes were not as bad this time, but not great either, and i didnt like his t-shirt...wtf is wrong with me, i know IABU, why am i being so fussy when i cant afford to at my age!

Can i take him shopping for new shoes??

YABU - unless he was wearing flip flops and white socks.

Dunno whether it's reasonable or not, but I completely agree that shoes can be a dealbreaker. I had a terrible crush on a boy at school when I was a teen, until he turned up for our date in a pair of pasty-ridged loafers. Ugh. I couldn't get away fast enough.

VinegarTits · 21/04/2008 09:40

They were like cornish pasties and he didn't polish them

i totally sympathise, in single days was frequently put off otherwise sexy men if they had horrible shoes on. too pointy or soles too thin or too square toed. now happily living with man who wears cowboy boots nearly all the time which i find very funny.

YOU CAN CHANGE HIS CLOTHES / haircut / furniture.

Concentrate on the things you cannot change and whether they suit you.

VinegarTits · 21/04/2008 09:42

Also at lunch he kept blowing his nose on this really off white, manky looking hankie when i was eating.....but he is handsome and a nice person, he did call me a conundrum though...dont know why.

I think it's mean to criticise a blind man for the way his shoes look.

I know what you mean about the shoes but I could get past that eventually. Did he smell nice?

I want to take him shopping and buy him nice clothes and then send him to the dentist to have his teeth whitened, i feel like such a cow for thinking this way, i should like him for who he is and not the clothes he wears.

I have thrown away / recycled at least 20 black sackfuls of my partner's old clothes...

Actually socks more important. If they've got pictures on then it's a definite no. Did you get a glimpse?

MascaraOHara · 21/04/2008 09:48

Remember you can change the outside but not the inside.. good luck

CountessDracula · 21/04/2008 09:48

What were the rest of his clothes like?

Seems odd that he would wear good clothes and bad shoes

I always judge a man by his shoes.
Very important indication of general character imo.

Grey slip on shoes - to be avoided at all costs.
Sandals and socks - no no no.
Wrong colour shoes with clothes - not end of world but def needs guidance.

Izzywhizzy · 21/04/2008 09:49

I've given my partner a full makeover since we got together. As long as the raw materials are in good knick, you should be able to work with them IYSWIM.

bran · 21/04/2008 09:49

If he's very tall then perhaps he has unusually large feet, in which case he probably doesn't have a lot of choice about what shoes he buys.

Kindness and a sense of humour are essential in a man IMO, shoes can be worked on.

Maybe he has trouble shopping for nice shoes as he did have enormous feet!
