Went on a blind date on Friday night, nice looking guy, tall (6 ft 6) and handsome in a rough looking way, we got on very well and he liked me a lot, in fact he told me yesterday in a phone conversation, that when he saw me come across the pub car park he was blown away! but i didnt like his shoes and its really putting me off him....

In my effort to not let this affect my perception of him, i agreed to go out with him again yesterday for lunch, in hope he would be wearing better shoes.....

His shoes were not as bad this time, but not great either, and i didnt like his t-shirt...wtf is wrong with me, i know IABU, why am i being so fussy when i cant afford to at my age!

Can i take him shopping for new shoes??

go with your instincts... i think when you meet someone who is right for you, any little foibles like naff shoes or whatever are sort of invisible when you're falling for them. The fact that it bothered you so much is probably a sign that there's something else about him that just doesn't 'sit right' with you, and that would make a relationship just feel wrong.

6'6" and roughly handsome? mmmmmmmMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm

VinegarTits · 21/04/2008 10:00

He does a lot of outdoor pursuits, paragliding, beach kite sufing and stuff, so he is a bit rougard(sp?) which i find attractive about him, but i do think he didnt make a big enough effort for a first date. If he made the most of himself he would be gorgeous!

Any tattoos?

bran · 21/04/2008 10:01

Good point, I wouldn't wear trainers on a blind date. If I was on the dating scene again I would have to buy a whole new 'dating' wardrobe I think.

On the whole he doesn't sound bad VT. Perhaps you could have a shoe shopping date before you rule him out entirely.

What's his job? Does always wear trainery type stuff anyway? (I would perhaps excuse the sports socks in those circumstances.)

Not ruling him out just yet, but if the manky hankie comes out again when im eating i might just puke. Going to take him shopping for new shoes and nice white hankies.

I dont want to change him as a person, just his shoes and hankies (for now) so i think i am allowed to change them, yes?

If he's just come out of a 10 year relationship, he's probably not used to thinking about his appearance that much. Give him a chance to re-enter the world of people who are likely to notice what he looks like.

he wore black trousers and black shirt with grey pattern on it, his watch looked like the type those surfer dudes wear, with a ripcurl logo on it, and for lucnh date he wore a ripcurl t-shirt and combat pants

You can change shoes (although I am like that about shoes too.)Give him a chance he may have another pair

ImflightbutIcantlogintoday · 21/04/2008 10:13

You need to know everything about why his ten year relationship ended. My money is on she didn't dig the shoes.
