Went on a blind date on Friday night, nice looking guy, tall (6 ft 6) and handsome in a rough looking way, we got on very well and he liked me a lot, in fact he told me yesterday in a phone conversation, that when he saw me come across the pub car park he was blown away! but i didnt like his shoes and its really putting me off him....

In my effort to not let this affect my perception of him, i agreed to go out with him again yesterday for lunch, in hope he would be wearing better shoes.....

His shoes were not as bad this time, but not great either, and i didnt like his t-shirt...wtf is wrong with me, i know IABU, why am i being so fussy when i cant afford to at my age!

Can i take him shopping for new shoes??

I'm surprised at all the trainer haters. DP wears trainers and frankly he looks lush in them!

Gold chains on the other hand = instant red card.

Sorry, I have now completely switched allegiance.

Gold chains? Yak.

You can do better than that.

zazen · 21/04/2008 12:11

wow, this guy is a slob!

And a smelly car - eh? what's that about?

You 'hinted' about the dustbunnies?
I'm wondering why didn't you ask him straight out why his car smelt funny and was filthy?
And also I'm wondering why you didn't tell him that you had cleaned yours cos you wanted to make a good impression as this date actually meant something to you?

I bet he won't remember your birthday... and won't understand why it was important to you..

wrt being left on the shelf... I really can't see how being with a slob who you have to 'fix' is better than having time and energy for yourself.

you have kids already right? Why get an adult one?

I love trainers. My DH is a trainer freak, though, he collects limited edition pairs and should be paid by Adidas for services to marketing. I can't stand any shoe with a pointed toe on a man. Or loafers . or those 'trendy' birkenstock wearing men. Yeuch.

cornsilk · 21/04/2008 12:12

Smelly car = smelly sheets. God knows what they'll be like.

Was it smelly? Check out his fridge.

cyteen · 21/04/2008 12:16

MrsMattie, I'm the same! Trainers and boots = yum. Brogues, loafers and shiny shoes = vomitous.

If my house was in the same state as his, i would not have invited a date back for coffee, but i am a bit ocd about cleanliness....it was very messy, dusty, tools everywhere and shit stains on the toliet....god this sounds like a wind up but its not! the more i think about it the worse it gets.

I once danced with a bloke in a singles nightclub and his shoes were VELCRO fastened...no second dance for him with me!

VinegarTits · 21/04/2008 12:18

I sneeked a look in his fridge it was clean

mmj, yeah, I wouldn't rate a guy if he turned up wearing sweaty stinky Reebok Classics or anything. But I am definitely allergic to pasty shoes of any kind, dunno why, they just fill me with scorn.

No scruffy, battered old trainers. Must be in good condition!

VinegarTits · 21/04/2008 12:24

I offered (jokingly) to come round and help him clean up. He then admitted that he probably should have waited until he had finished his renovations before inviting me back.
