Why would someone keep an empty envelope?

To ask why a person would keep an open but empty envelope with their name on the front. They haven't mistakenly kept it. I know this because it has been deliberately moved from its original place and hidden in a new place while they were tidying up.

Ay?

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 18/09/2024 16:00

Because it means something to them? Just ask

Celticliving · 18/09/2024 16:02

I had an empty envelope on my desk with my name on it. I kept it, cos I thought it might come in useful for something else.

HTH.

takealettermsjones · 18/09/2024 16:03

I have a post it note with my name on (amongst other words of course) in a deceased relative's handwriting. Maybe something like that?

Sirzy · 18/09/2024 16:04

My grandpa used to keep them as scrap paper, used it when he was doing accounting or making notes or something. He had envelopes everywhere

sandycornishcrocs · 18/09/2024 16:04

Maybe stop nosing around when you’re cleaning.

Anothernamebite · 18/09/2024 16:04

The envelope had been torn open so not reusable. It had also been folded over several times.

I keep used envelopes in case I need an envelope for something! And just scribble on a new name or sticker over...

BabyofMine · 18/09/2024 16:05

Why do you care if it’s not your envelope mind your own bloody business!
And that still counts if the person is your child.

takealettermsjones · 18/09/2024 16:06

I'm so curious about why this has ended up as a Mumsnet post rather than just asking the person 🤣

blitzen · 18/09/2024 16:06

I do this with envelopes with my child's writing on, which are special to me. Also if I intend keeping the card that came with it in a memory box etc.

Citrusandginger · 18/09/2024 16:07

I don't know but my DH seems to want to hang on to them too.

He is quite happy to deal with or bin the envelope contents, then leaves the envelope on the side. Drives me ever so slightly potty.

Anothernamebite · 18/09/2024 16:07

It has been hidden inside a packet of printed photos.

OP posts:
YellowphantGrey · 18/09/2024 16:08

Why don't you ask them? And why have you searched for it after it had been moved and hidden?

Aquamarine1029 · 18/09/2024 16:08

Why are you snooping?

Idontjetwashthefucker · 18/09/2024 16:09

Anothernamebite · 18/09/2024 16:07

It has been hidden inside a packet of printed photos.

Sounds like you've gone snooping for something...why?

Anothernamebite · 18/09/2024 16:10

I wasn't searching for the envelope, I noticed the new packet of photos so looked at them, then noticed the envelope.

OP posts:
narns · 18/09/2024 16:10

Is there any writing on the envelope? Why are you so concerned about it?

Hazeby · 18/09/2024 16:10

Well, why do you think they’ve kept it? You must have a theory.

theemmadilemma · 18/09/2024 16:10

OP the answer is obviously because it's important to them. Clearly it's being kept 'safe'.

You know that, and you know the only way to find out why.

MrsPerfect12 · 18/09/2024 16:10

What are we reaching for? An affair,
a love letter, debt letters, DNA test results.
What do you think it is?

2Old2Tango · 18/09/2024 16:10

Always people have to come on and write a rude response rather than just scroll on by. I'd ignore them personally.

I would think the envelope means something to them. Maybe it came from someone deceased or no longer in their life and it's a reminder of them/their handwriting? We can only make guesses though and you'll only find out for sure by asking them.

Is this something your spouse or partner has and you're wondering if it's a connection to an ex? I'm not sure why else it would bother you enough to ask on here.

BabyofMine · 18/09/2024 16:11

Maybe they’re trying to find out if you are snooping through their things.

Seriously though it would be more helpful if you explained who it was and why you are bothered by it, there must be a back story.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 18/09/2024 16:11

I sometimes keep an envelope, I might want to put something in it or take some money to the bank in it or something! The person who has kept it probably didn't think twice about it

vodkaredbullgirl · 18/09/2024 16:11

It's a mystery
