Why would someone keep an empty envelope?

To ask why a person would keep an open but empty envelope with their name on the front. They haven't mistakenly kept it. I know this because it has been deliberately moved from its original place and hidden in a new place while they were tidying up.

Because we have a backload of paperwork and are disorganised!

jasminocereusbritannicus · 19/09/2024 18:10

I keep envelopes… usually to use as scrap paper. Seems a shame to waste them. Sometimes it’s for sentimental reasons.Sometimes I reuse them.
i don’t really see the problem.

AnnieSnap · 19/09/2024 18:10

What a weird thing to wonder about! Most people wouldn’t give this a second thought 🤷‍♀️

Toptops · 19/09/2024 18:21

My mum would! Every time.
Waste not want not....

Single50something · 19/09/2024 18:21

This is why I have clutter:)
I have envelopes my son has written to me or that my dad has sent etc

Delphiniumandlupins · 19/09/2024 18:21

If the envelope was folded over at the top I would assume something was previously stored in it. That something might be elsewhere now but the envelope kept in case it was needed again.

tolerable · 19/09/2024 18:24

did you ask him then?

Ask DH. He has dozens, many of them used.

The other day I was taking seeds off my plants and needed something to put them in. I was thinking used paper envelopes would be perfect and I should start keeping them for this purpose instead of putting them directly into the recycling. Its quite a niche reason though and it would probably wind my partner up!

StuckInHove · 19/09/2024 18:43

I have an envelope that I found a while ago while moving house with no card inside. Realised it was my grandads hand writing on it so I’ve kept it safe ever since. Don’t have anything else with his writing on. It could be something as innocent as that. Just ask him. You’ll drive yourself mad thinking up every scenario under the sun.

Danielle9891 · 19/09/2024 19:05

I keep envelopes all the time. I do reuse them if they aren't damaged. I've used them for sending dinner money into school, paying the window cleaner and my daughters dance lessons. I've also kept my birthday card and the envelope off my last grandad.

AiryFairyLights · 19/09/2024 19:05

I've literally loads of empty envelopes - and also loads of letters I really don't need 🫣
No idea why, it's as easy to put it in the bin as it is to put it in the pile so maybe I'm just broken 😂

Lavenderflower · 19/09/2024 19:09

This thread is so random.

It has been hidden inside a packet of printed photos.

So why are you snooping through everything looking for it? Creepy

Ukrainebaby23 · 19/09/2024 22:22

Anothernamebite · 18/09/2024 16:14

Yes, it is my husband, my husband's name written on the front.
Now the envelope is inside a packet of photos, photos that I had never seen printed before, random photos from his photo stream from seven years ago. Yes I will ask him but wanted to get some ideas first.

He is losing access to the photo stream due to some techno upgrade maybe? I'm not sure if the envelope is important in this but you really need to ask him if you are worried.
A previous partner printed a load of photos out when he was sick to keep beside his bed.

JackyPaper · 19/09/2024 22:24

Do you think he is going to make a collage?

LePetitMaman · 19/09/2024 22:26

@Anothernamebite

Well??....

SomePosters · 19/09/2024 22:45

Maybe they live with someone who throws their things away habitually and they want to feel some sense of control of the world around them…

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 19/09/2024 23:24

Can people not comprehend that it's not always possible to "just ask"....
How patronising!

OP could be in an abusive relationship, married to a cheat/gambler.
Could have asked and been told lies/gaslit etc.

Hopefully it's none of the above OP. Maybe that's what the photos came in?

ObscureGrape · 19/09/2024 23:28

Well, OP, was it the envelope from Granny’s lost, last birthday card or the envelope that formerly contained a torrid love letter from his ex protesting undying passion even though he was marrying you?

anon666 · 19/09/2024 23:33

Laziness. Can't be bothered to take it to the bin, I'll just fold it up and stick it in here.

Sumthingsweet · 20/09/2024 01:25

God your so nosey who cares ? Do you understand that there are bigger problems in the world ??

RecklessGoddess · 20/09/2024 05:02

Since it's your husband who is saving it, and the photos are of you, your husband and child (so they're clearly innocent), why not just ask him?

isthismylifenow · 20/09/2024 05:42

If you can't ask about an envelope, I suspect there are far bigger issues lurking.

Merida46 · 20/09/2024 11:36

Perhaps the photos were in the envelope.🙄
