Why would someone keep an empty envelope?

To ask why a person would keep an open but empty envelope with their name on the front. They haven't mistakenly kept it. I know this because it has been deliberately moved from its original place and hidden in a new place while they were tidying up.

These things are much easier resolved on Gransnet. The answer is always “dementia”.

Would that work for the envelope?

It has been hidden inside a packet of printed photos.

It's obviously important to them, leave it alone.

Uhhh was hoping we would know the answer by now

Well, I'm glad I saw this post. Now I know what to do if I ever need to figure out if someone is a bit unhinged.

Just ask them? Long sigh

Probably it has some particular meaning for them. I keep envelopes my GCs have written on, or some that are just pretty. It’s private to this person and not for you to speculate on.

HR517 · 22/09/2024 09:06

Only the person keeping the envelope will know. The rest of us can only hazard a guess. It may have a symbolic value or is an ‘act’ required in some “ritual”? You could ask the person concerned if you MUST know?

Pherian · 22/09/2024 13:29

are you normally paranoid about weird things ?

Goodtogossip · 25/09/2024 14:28

has the name been written by a loved one who has passed away? Could be kept for sentimental reasons like this. Just ask them if you're so intrigued by it.

Sumthingsweet · 06/10/2024 19:24

I keep all the envelopes saying mum mamma wifey one says my queen from hubby old cards etc don’t have the heart to chuck - hubby keeps little notes from me shopping list which says at the end by the way I love you xx lol we been married 24 years I guess it’s sentimental and annoying to some but each to their own

Sumthingsweet · 06/10/2024 19:26

Saying that when mother in law died and we sorted her things we found all her old Mother’s Day cards and things from kids - was really sad and also touching I think we put them in the drawer somewhere and the now adult kids appreciated she kept them in her special drawer - also their Mother’s Day gifts unused etc smellys bags bits etc

Pickled21 · 06/10/2024 19:33

I have kept a birthday card, an envelope and gift tag with dad's (my fil) writing on it. Dh doesn't attach importance to stuff like that but I do so I've kept them.

Did you ever ask, @Anothernamebite?
