Will Huw get a worse/lighter sentencing today because of his fame?

YABU ... Worse sentence
YANBU ... Lighter setence

It will be a suspended sentence. Because of who he is.
People in the media rarely get any jail time. There are Plenty of others who should have had jail time for breaking the law but don’t, KP for example.
Others don’t even get charged or ‘interviewed’ by police if they are high profile enough or have money.
It’s a farce.

When will his sentence be known. As far as I’m aware the hearing started at 10.

Following a live reporting, seems the didn’t get started until closer to 11am. They’re still going through what he actually did/received and how he responded. Now at ‘he doesn’t even remember looking at some photos because of mental health issues’.

Gettingbysomehow · 16/09/2024 11:31

Mentally vulnerable my arse. I have mental health problems and disabilities you don't find me downloading pictures of kids being abused.
My mental health problems are because I was one of those kids.
He has destroyed his wife and 5 kids.
Destroyed the life of that 16 year old kid.
Let down his church.
Let down the BBC.
Let down his colleagues dome of which he sent vile messages to.
Fuck him.

This is the truth of it. You have hit the nail on the head.

I doubt there'll be redemption for a convicted paedophile. No-one will want to be commercially associated with him.

Exactly. There’s no way back for celebrities when they’ve committed the most heinous of crimes like he did.

Good post (sorry re your CSA. Me too)
Also destroyed lives of kids in images of Category A abuse. Category A is Penetration. Animals. Sadism. Kids aged 7 years old. HE paid for images of this. Multiple Category A images. Evil.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 16/09/2024 11:43

He is so vile and his so called “mitigation” is utterly pathetic.

I hope he goes to prison but I bet he won’t

@Mymanyellow it's been delayed, 2 cases up before him now

100% this.

I am so sorry that you have been a victim of crimes like these. All sympathy should be reserved for the victims.

People like HE can rot.

after I wrote my post I realised I could actually go online and see what is being reported as being said in court today, so I deleted my post as it added nothing useful to this thread. I haven’t looked at the image and won’t do so. The whole thing is so horrible and anyone who contributes to this whole market( of child exploitation) is a disgusting human being. Repellent man

ToniFire · 16/09/2024 11:51

So sick of people using 'mental health' or alcohol as a defense for such appalling behaviour.

Bad mental health doesn't automatically stops you from knowing right from wrong. He knew full well what he was looking at, and actively encouraged it.

Disgusting man. Lock him up!

Maddy70 · 16/09/2024 11:52

He should and will get the appropriate sentence from the sentencing guidelines like anyone else

OrwellianTimes · 16/09/2024 11:52

The stuff coming out is just repugnant. A one year sentence is not enough for this man or the other who was sending stuff.

Any lawyer trotting out “he was mentally ill” should also do jail time imo. Mental illness doesn’t make you download and pay for indecent images.

Legal professionals take instruction from their clients. I personally couldn't be a criminal defence lawyer but our system allows and demands all accused persons have a robust defence.

ClickClickety · 16/09/2024 12:05

There isn't enough room in prisons for all the men accessing indecent images of children. Hundreds of men every month are caught.

Dennisisamennis · 16/09/2024 12:06

He will get a lesser sentence than the man who sent them, so I guess a suspended plus fine and maybe a rehabilitation programme. None of it fits the severity of what they did though.

Threewheeler1 · 16/09/2024 12:06

I've just read that his defence said he wasn't using the images for his own gratification...how on earth are they even putting that forward as an argument for mitigation? Unbelievable.
Exact wording:
'He did not store any of those images on any device. He did not use them for any personal gratification and he did not gain any gratification from those indecent images'

Don't even know where to start with that.
Disgusting predator.

This.
Sky news says sentencing is expected in half an hour.

Didimum · 16/09/2024 12:08

With the reality of prison space availability being what it is, I do see the requirement for a lesser or no prison sentence for this. Not ideal, but that's the situation the country is dealing with. In the current circumstance, I think prison spaces have to be readily available for the most serious of crimes – otherwise we run the risk of not being able to a) provide that at all, b) provide inadequate spaces that exacerbate reoffended and c) exacerbate the dangers of prison overcrowding, namely causing serious harm to prison staff and inmates.

Yes. The idea that a criminal barrister making a client's case to the court should be imprisoned is some totalitarian shit.

TheGreatIndoors · 16/09/2024 12:11

I hope he fucking needs the suitcase that he's packed. Sadly though, I doubt it.

SantasRubiksCube · 16/09/2024 12:12

I honestly can't wrap my head around how anyone can be found with these kinds of images (someone who is known in the public eye or not) and they get such lenient sentences. Those poor children in that awful material have been put through hell for some sickos sexual gratification and will be damaged for the rest of their lives, why should the innocent ones be the only ones stuck with a life sentence. I'd like to hope he rots but I know it won't happen.

PandoraSox · 16/09/2024 12:12

Apparently 80% of those convicted don't go to prison.
