JoyousPinkPeer · 16/09/2024 08:33

Will Huw get a worse/lighter sentencing today because of his fame?

YABU ... Worse sentence
YANBU ... Lighter setence

It would have been at crown court for a sentence of any length

BanksysSprayCan · 16/09/2024 09:39

I hope he gets the same as someone who isn’t in the public eye. Someone being famous should not be a consideration, unless it impacts others. Public service might be impractical because the press would have a field day taking pics of him in a boiler suit cleaning graffiti, and that would impact the privacy of other offenders working alongside.

JumpinJellyfish · 16/09/2024 09:39

He will surely get a similar or lesser sentence than the guy that sent the images to him.

My guess is less than a year suspended.

Cyclebabble · 16/09/2024 10:04

A suspended sentence and asked to sign the sex offenders register. He will never work again.

NotMyCircusss · 16/09/2024 10:08

They sentenced people ina New York second for shouting at a police dog, but this scumbag has taken months to be sentenced and as he’s BBC and famous I doubt he’ll get any more than the guy who shared 3 Facebook posts, knowing our “justice” system.

He won’t need to work again. He’s old enough to claim his BBC pension now. We’ll never hear of him again after this.

Flashcardsagain · 16/09/2024 09:07

He'll get a suspended sentence, not pay back any money and go off to some other country that satisfies his need for abusing children.

Sadly I think you are correct.
I also agree that the UK now tends to 'trial by SM' & then we move on & nothing concrete is done about issues.
As a CSA survivor I hope the judge imposes the maximum sentence available & HE is socially shamed forever.

🙄

No one got jail time simply for shouting at a police dog or sharing FB posts. Don't believe everything Yaxley-Lennon rants on about.

isthereaway · 16/09/2024 10:20

Sorry I see I didn't reply to your actual Qu. If the sentence is affected it'd be lighter not harsher: The Establishment.

LostTheMarble · 16/09/2024 10:22

The chance he’ll get a custodial sentence is close to zero. First time offender, a churchgoing charity man, yes his career as the head News reporter for the BBC will count as well - his image and responsibilities in this capacity will paint him as a fallen hero. I bet a report will say he’s at very low risk of reoffending as well, whatever anyone else believes of him anymore.

I suspect it will be a suspended sentence with community service. He’s already asked to do free charity work (was it on LinkedIn?), he’s already preparing for it and hoping to do some naice church/community work with people who excuse his shitty behaviour.

ATuinTheGreat · 16/09/2024 09:36

I hope he does get a custodial sentence, but, as others have said, I can’t see it happening due to the seemingly very lenient suspended sentence the person who sent the images was given. I can’t see how it’s possible he could get a more harsh sentence than the supplier.

It doesn’t always work like that though, does it. It depends on that particular Judge on that particular day. Hopefully this Judge takes no messing. (This is of course assuming it is a different Judge)

They said on the radio this morning they he would be attending Westminster Mags Court but it had been confirmed it might be beyond what the Judge can sentence and therefore might need to go to Crown

isthereaway · 16/09/2024 10:29

I think his wee suitcase is theatrical. He knows he won't be sent down.
Evil man.

People did get jail time for social media posts.

Of course I have no sympathy at all for these pathetic racists, but I do believe they got harsher sentences due to the high-profile nature of the riots and that worries me in terms of the bigger picture of our justice system.

Norugratsatall · 16/09/2024 10:35

I suspect, like other posters have said, that he'll avoid a custodial sentence. I hope we never hear of or see him again on our screens after this; he makes my skin crawl!

Sepoctnov · 16/09/2024 10:37

Evil, disgusting man. Seeing his smug evil face makes me feel sick.

Hopefully they'll lock him up but my money is on a suspended sentence.

This is a vile sickness in society...what on earth is the answer.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/09/2024 10:37

Is he at the Magistrates or the Crown. If it’s the Magistrates the highest sentence they can hand out is 6 months. The Judge can I’m sure pass sentencing over to the CC if he/she wants to give more.
Anything to do with harming kids in anyway at all they should never see the light of day or dark of night either for that matter. They should be put in a brick cell without any windows. However sadly I don’t make the rules.

DeCaray · 16/09/2024 10:39

He should get the maximum sentence.

He did use his fame to manipulate at least one young male so that should be taken into account.

He’s at Mag and apparently it’s 12 months as the highest sentence. Beyond that it goes to Crown, which it won’t as his lawyers will pull out all the stops, arguing precedent.

BIossomtoes · 16/09/2024 10:41

He automatically gets a lighter sentence for pleading guilty. My bet is it’s a suspended sentence, particularly given that prisons are bursting at the seams.

But as I said, they weren't simply social media posts, we're they? The social media posts in question were inciting violence and murder. And of course they got severe sentences. The same happened in 2011 when some people took to social media to encourage the spread of violence and unrest. Doing that sort of thing when there are riots happening will always earn a harsh sentence.

Anyway, this is a derail!

Oh 12 months is it

viques · 16/09/2024 10:44

Apparently he took a small suitcase to court. Could have had a packed lunch in there I suppose…….

No, it’s six. I just checked.
