To think it’s unprofessional to deliver stuff with a lit cigarette in your mouth?

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I know this is proper pearl clutching.

Just taken in a parcel and the driver had a lit cigarette in his mouth. I must have had thousands of deliveries over the years and that’s never happened.

it’s unprofessional right?

I guess he's not allowed to smoke in his van but yeah that's gross

DearGoldFish · 14/09/2024 16:31

it isn’t ideal

but it’s hardly a β€œprofession”

DadJoke · 14/09/2024 16:31

If you are a spiv in a 1940s movie, sure, otherwise not.

It's a shit job. You got your stuff. Leave him alone. And I hate smoking.

bluegreygreen · 14/09/2024 16:55

What profession is he in?

bluegreygreen · 14/09/2024 16:55

What profession is he in?

Delivering plastic shit to the UK's housewives.

betterangels · 14/09/2024 16:59

I really would not care. You got your delivery.

rolandthefarter · 14/09/2024 16:59

Our delivery driver does this. What's worse is my stuff stinks of cigarette smoke as well.

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 14/09/2024 16:59

Was it a delivery from Evri??

I've had this before - I've also complained about it before because the guy WAS smoking in the van, to such an extent that my parcel stank, I had to take it outside to open and leave the packaging outside.

Ohfuckrucksack · 14/09/2024 16:59

Okay I hate smoking and wouldn't particularly like this.

But, delivery driving is barely even a job, it's not a profession.

It's an exploitative poorly paid gig that harms the person doing the job, the environment and our society.

Hopefully they didn't blow smoke rings at you because that would be pushing it.

Sethera · 14/09/2024 17:02

Well, the law prevents him smoking in his van because it is a 'workplace'. The anti-smoking lobby have forced him outside.

Ohfuckrucksack · 14/09/2024 17:02

I know you didn't ask, but that's never stopped me:

Overall, the characteristics of a profession include specialized knowledge, advanced education, ethical standards, organizational structure, public service motivation, and professional autonomy, all of which contribute to its distinct status and recognition in society

It's still rude to walk up to someone's door smoking. 🀒

sunsetsandboardwalks · 14/09/2024 17:04

I really can't get worked up about this. Delivery driving is an awful job at the best of times.

BobbyBiscuits · 14/09/2024 17:05

Not great. But I guess he was overworked and had to smoke sometime. They should just let them smoke in the van, if it's with windows open.

JohnTheRevelator · 14/09/2024 17:35

Wouldn't bother me.

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 14/09/2024 17:41

I'd hate this. I dont want the smell on my goods or coming into my hallway.

Boomer55 · 14/09/2024 17:44

Unless it’s food, it’s not really your business.

comedycentral · 14/09/2024 17:46

I'd think it was a bit odd, I've never seen a delivery driver do that.

It is when your parcels stink of cigarettes, especially when it's clothing

Cigarette smoke doesn't penetrate the two sealed plastic bags clothes come in.

No, it's not ideal but I doubt it contravenes the professional standards of delivery driving.

NoraLuka · 14/09/2024 17:53

I wouldn’t care, surely the smell can’t get through the packaging? If the parcel gets to the right address on time and is safely delivered, the driver’s done his job.
