To think it’s unprofessional to deliver stuff with a lit cigarette in your mouth?

😂😂 I know this is proper pearl clutching.

Just taken in a parcel and the driver had a lit cigarette in his mouth. I must have had thousands of deliveries over the years and that’s never happened.

it’s unprofessional right?

If someone came to my door with a fag hanging out of their mouth, I'd have a momentary flashback of my childhood. My face would do whatever it does when I remember fag ash Lil (my mother) back in the day. I'd shut the door and think "what a minger". Professional or not wouldn't be what I'd think.

I suspect that it would have been different if he had been smoking a pipe...

That is brilliant! Women mesmerised by the alluring smell of a pipe full of St Bruno rough cut! 🤮

Those tobacco tins take me back to my childhood.

I seem to remember cigars being advertised as an aphrodisiac too. What a bizarre world advertising is.

Our delivery driver does this. What's worse is my stuff stinks of cigarette smoke as well.

Our delivery driver is a heavy smoker. All our parcels absolutely stink of it!

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 15/09/2024 10:13

Minimum wage should not equal minimum effort ffs. People's work ethic absolutely stinks.

Emily1583 · 15/09/2024 10:29

Yes it is, but those delivery peeps have a crap job and get treated like slaves by their bosses pressuring them with ridiculous delivery runs etc I try and cut them some slack where I can. Actually I try and avoid buying anything online as the delivery service from the companies is really poor.

There was an Evri driver round here who must've smoked in his van as anything I got from him reeked of smoke.

Your parcel sealed inside a plastic bag that you're going to put straight in the bin? hardly a traumatic event is it?
I love the delicate soils on here that a momentary smell is grim and vile.
Also, many delivery drivers, dependent on who the work for can make a good wage, I know a few who earn £40k + pa

thoonerismspread · 15/09/2024 10:56

I wouldn't give a toss to be honest.

This. Why is everyone slagging off his job?

They were not really they were mocking people who said it was "unprofessional" like it was bringing the great and noble profession of delivering parcels into disrepute.

It's a job and it's fine, but I doubt anyone doing it wants to sacrifice for it and going all day without smoking would be pretty tough for most smokers.

wishiwasinthe80s · 15/09/2024 12:34

MN is so weird. The fact you’re sat there debating the word “unprofessional” and delivering parcels as a “profession”.

What if he’d taken a huge dump on the parcel, should I just shrug and say “well it’s not a profession so being unprofessional doesn’t exist here”

Yes I think it’s weird to be smoking at someone’s door when you’re there delivering parcels. I’ve no idea how many parcels I’ve ever received and it’s never happened before.

Also really weird the people saying I wouldn’t report him. Where has this even come from. Evri wouldnt give a shit and regardless it’s not even that deep that I would report him anyway.

it isn’t ideal

but it’s hardly a “profession”

You don't have to work in a recognised 'profession' to be 'professional'. Snobbery is awful.

ok

but what constitutes “professional” will differ for these different “professions”

and whilst not ideal to have a delivery man smoking a fag as a one off

no where near as unprofessional as my divorce solicitor greeting me at her office door with a fag hanging out of her mouth

So what? Let him take a big fat shit on my parcel by poking his bum over the threshold of my front door. Doesn’t matter the man’s got a shit job and he can use my tea towel to then wipe his arse as well because he doesn’t need manners - he’s a delivery driver
