Does anyone seriously enjoy sourdough?

I just find the crust so tough and chewy. I always feel so undignified ripping a bite off like a wild animal, usually while the filling drops everywhere.

Posh, artisan type places seem to all love a bit of sourdough, I just don't get it. What am I missing?!!

I love it toasted. Don’t tend to eat it without toasting.

cherrysonata · 14/09/2024 11:53

God yes. Toasted with lashings of good butter - it's the food of the gods. I have to ration myself.

Mercurial123 · 14/09/2024 11:54

I make my own, and it's so much nicer than what you buy. I love it toasted.

JMSA · 14/09/2024 11:54

Great for toast, crap for a sandwich.

Silverbook · 14/09/2024 11:54

I love it. Do that any other type of bread.

OctoblocksAssemble · 14/09/2024 11:55

It's nice in soup, wouldn't be my first choice for a sandwich.
Sourdough pizza base though is lovely

bluecomputerscreen · 14/09/2024 11:55

toasted
with stilton & pickle

I used to but now I rather dislike it.

Same!

Dearg · 14/09/2024 11:56

Love it - but agree, not for a sandwich. I like the M&S seeded ones, really filling and no bloating

EveryOtherNameTaken · 14/09/2024 11:56

As bread no. Toast definitely!

Branster · 14/09/2024 12:01

I never understood the popularity, I don't like it. I sometimes buy it because it looks nice in the shop and think I'll give it another go. Always disappointed.

HateMyRubbishBoss · 14/09/2024 12:01

Best for bread and butter pudding due to its consistency (doesn’t take it soggy)!

mynameiscalypso · 14/09/2024 12:02

I'm very happy to have it in a sandwich. I'm happy to have it under any circumstances really! I like the fact that it's chewy and I like the slightly sour taste vs normal bread which seems so bland to me now

Trainerstrainers · 14/09/2024 11:44

I like it but always toasted. I often find the stuff in restaurants etc is too hard vs what I buy in the shops

This. Toasted. A real treat

ajd if it is very fresh form oven..still warm or warmed up in oven.

but cold..meh 🥹

Andoutcomethewolves · 14/09/2024 12:07

I don't generally have it as a sandwich as it's too chewy, but lightly toasted with loads of butter and something like bacon/poached egg/avocado/brie etc it's a thing of beauty!

poppyzbrite4 · 14/09/2024 12:08

I either like it toasted or just spread with butter but not as a sandwich.

Snackpocket · 14/09/2024 12:08

Love it. A loaf of Jason’s sourdough is my weekend treat at the moment!

ghostyslovesheets · 14/09/2024 12:09

Only toasted with eggs - in a thick white sliced lover for all other bread needs

Yeah food of the Gods I agree. I really can’t be bothered with normal bread after sourdough. It’s just tastes kind of flimsy and bland in comparison.

I started with it toasted and the butter kind of melting deliciously into all those crumpety holes and perfectly offsetting the delicious “ tang”, but now I love it as much or more fresh and springy with avocado and fresh, sweet tomatoes and lots of cracked black pepper. A knob of Brie turns it into a last wish dish. It has to be fresh though, ( if not toast it), but omg when it is fresh … bread is just a poor relation. The tang, the BOUNCE, the jaw workout. Absolutely love the stuff. The rye and seedy versions are even better (and tend to stay bouncy longer) . The plus is I’m told it’s healthier than normal bread ( something to do with blood sugar?) and the seedy rye ones are really pretty wholesome.

Yes I love sourdough

Toasted is best, some sourdoughs I find don't work in a sandwich but plenty do. My local bakery their sourdough is delicious in all forms

Sunnysundayicecream · 14/09/2024 12:09

As my dad would have said, it's tough as old boots. In fact I think I might rather eat my boots than sour dough.

DancefloorAcrobatics · 14/09/2024 12:09

Bred isn't proper bread unless it's sourdough... ok I don't mind othe types of bread but sourdough is up there in the top spot before French baguette or a decent chiabatta!

But the traditional white sandwich bred that sticks to the roof of your mouth and has no substance is an abomination!

DrummingMousWife · 14/09/2024 12:09

I use it as a dipping bread for hummus or olive oil and balsamic

Didimum · 14/09/2024 12:11

I love sourdough and bake it at home twice a week. I also make sourdough focaccia and cinnamon rolls.

MissTrip82 · 14/09/2024 12:11

I like it toasted.

I don’t like it not toasted.
