No women only spaces for 16 months. Basically women, RAPED women - were told they could not definitely see a woman to help them with such an awful crime, they might have to see a man in a dress, and if they objected they were to be 're eductaed' by the man in charge - a man who himself applied for, and got!! a job which was supposed to be only filled by a woman.

It's shameful, disgusting, but whats worse is how many people put up with it!! Who thought this was ok?! why did nobody do anything, or say anything FOR YEARS

Woman with head in her arms sitting on a bed

Edinburgh rape crisis centre failed to protect women-only spaces

The centre unfairly dismissed a worker who believed victims should know the sex of staff who deal with their case.

The whole trans nonsense needs stopping now. Who wants to share changing rooms with men who pretend to be women? And biological men competing against in sports is so wrong. And what happens to women only short lists.

What a logical career progression.

Trans to trans-port. It's just an expansion of sorts. Badum-tish.

PIKNIK20 · 13/09/2024 18:42

Finally, after 3 years the CEO responsible for this "ideological" instead of factual attitude to rape victims has been kicked out. But how many rape victims did not get support because of that person? Thank God for JKR centre in Edinburgh!

nothingcomestonothing · 13/09/2024 18:44

This is Rape Crisis Scotland, who have now thrown Wadhwa under the bus, responding to women's outrage at Wadhwa's words and the culture he was leading at Edinburgh Rape Crisis in 2021:

Women only spaces are a core principle of the Rape Crisis movement and upheld through our National Service Standards (read these here). These spaces include women with a diverse range of lived experience and views, including trans women and girls.

https://www.rapecrisisscotland.org.uk/news/news/1038/

Women only spaces according to RCS at that time included TW (and so weren't women only). Fast forward to this week, and RCS are horrified to find that ERCS didn't provide women only spaces Hmm RCS were utterly complicit in what happened at ERCS.

Credit due to the evil bigots at KF, who led me to this helpful example of how women objecting were/are characterised as hateful bigots,
https://transsafety.network/posts/ask-rape-crisis-scotland/
which in turn led me to the RCS statement.

Oh all women shortlists are still allowed as long as some of those women have a penis 🤦‍♀️

It's utterly appalling! The depth of the misogyny is unfathomable. Graham Linehan has a great post on his substack (worth subscribing to The Glinner Update) which lists this larping male's behaviour:

He has no GRC so is still legally male.
He lied about his sex to secure a job at Forth Valley Rape Crisis Centre.
He objected to an amendment allowing rape victims to choose the sex of the medical clinician examining them.
Pursuing political ambitions, he took a place on an SNP all-women shortlist.
He has demonstrated a shocking lack of knowledge regarding legislation that affects women’s services, a sector in which he’s worked for over a decade.
He is ‘disappointed’ by the single-sex provisions allowed for in the Equality Act 2010 and finds them ‘discriminatory’ against transwomen.
He sided with serial litigant and period-obsessed paedophile, Jonathan Yaniv, against a group of migrant women.
He seems to think it suitable to discuss whether rape victims experience orgasm.

But he's been enabled and protected by a lot of senior people who ought to be held accountable too, and ERCC is funded by the captured SNP government.

Heads should roll!

Not sure this has already been mentioned but a male rapist was given access to the ERCC by claiming to be non binary

You think ‘there is no way this can get any worse’ and then it does

I worked in a women's refuge and we knew it was essential that women were heard and supported by only women.
There's a danger perceived that some men will get off on hearing women's accounts or rape.
So they shouldn't be near any survivor service.
To aid healing, women need to feel safe.

I don't have a problem with trans women/men, people should be allowed to live as they choose. However what I am getting more and more frustrated by is the assumption that women either in sport, in wanting women only changing rooms (John Lewis/Doncaster Hospital), in online forums or as per this thread, have the right to be seen by a woman, being made to feel bigoted, if they don't want a man in their space and keep it women only. Women's rights it seems, are increasingly being sidelined so that individuals can be accommodated. Surely women have just as much right to determine what a safe space is to them and be allowed to have that right. I can't imagine anything worse than not having a choice but to have to discuss with another man about having been raped by another man. And therein lies the problem of men/trans not really understanding why women sometimes don't want them in their space. A distinct lack of empathy and so much entitlement. JK Rowling was so frustrated by the Edinburgh situation that she has fully funded a women only rape crisis center so that women are not having to self exclude due to having no choice but to have a man present and making the rules.

artsperson · 13/09/2024 21:24

Too true. So why don't women stand up for women and girls

Binglebong · 13/09/2024 22:29

I wonder how many workers quietly left because they disagreed but knew they would get nowhere (and probably end up bkacklisted) if they tried to change things. Or stayed in the hope that they might make a small difference to the users, that they would at least have one woman fully on their side and might be able to slip things through.

You see it in care homes, terrible homes with the odd great worker who can't bear to abandon their charges because they want at least one good person there.

I'm in and organise a local support group. I am one of the anonymous interviews on Julie in Genderland, I put this question up, partly to galvanise women into taking action, I wrote to my old MP, to my new MP, to the new head of the womens thing in parliament, I protest on twitter, I send complaints to the BBC, to Primark and to anywhere else, I try to get Wikipedia changed, - I do a frak of a lot TBH

How about you?

So why did you start a thread as if you had just heard about this and criticised women, all women, including yourself for not doing enough?

I just don't get that. We should be supporting each other.

Please reread your original post and see how you come across.

Men should NEVER, ever be in charge of rape crisis services or involved providing care services for women who are victims of rape.

So do you think the same for male victims of rape, that females should not be involved in their care or rehabilitation?

Rape can be committed F on F and M on M. F on M and M on F.

For the minuscule amount of men who have been sexually assaulted by women, but no means would I expect them to deal with a woman in a rape shelter if they don't want that.

For the small amount of women who have been sexually assaulted by women, by all means, whatever they need, please let's make it happen.

For the men who have been raped by men, they deserve whatever rape crisis center makes sense for them. I can't speak for them.

Men commit 99% of all sexual crimes. Women are 80% of their victims. The vast majority of rape victims are women and that is the issue here, I have NO idea your purpose with these rare instances that have nothing to do with this topic of women being forced to endure men in the rape crisis shelters.

Don't spread dangerous misogynistic lies, @RareFatball . Women cannot rape. All rapes are by males, over 90% male to female. Please take your misogynistic whataboutery derailing elsewhere.

PonyPatter44 · 14/09/2024 07:35

Women can't commit rape, although they can commit sexual assault.

Some women would be ok with talking to a male therapist or counsellor about their rape. Some (most?) wouldn't. It's those who wouldn't be ok, who need the protection and assurance that they won't have to deal with a male while they are recovering.

Hairyesterdaygonetoday · 14/09/2024 07:57

It took two years to get a report done on the (deliberate but undeclared) withdrawal of an essential service for raped women.

It took less than an hour for this thread to start being hijacked by “what about the men”.

No one here is opposing services for male victims. That’s not what this is about.

334bu · 14/09/2024 08:32

It is great that that the CEO has resigned but he was appointed by women who knew he was male and agreed with his attitude towards women who wanted female only spaces. Sandy Brindley and Maggie Chapman are both fervent believers in trans ideology and as long as Brindley heads Rape Crisis Scotland nothing will really change.

Firethehorse · 14/09/2024 10:11

No one dares to speak up against male and trans activists for fear of loosing their jobs, being arrested for hate crimes and/or being vilified and hounded. We all know this, it’s why there are male bodied people in many areas of women’s sports etc.
JK Rowling very publicly opened the Rape Crisis Centre as a counterbalance to what was being offered, she is very brave but also has her wealth as a shield.
As long as the current women’s minister says there are all sorts of women (and that includes
those who simply say so) things can only get worse.
The biological loophole was set to be closed by the Conservatives but Labour do not want to do this. Bridget Phillipson is apparently sick of this debate and had hoped these questions would go away.
We should not accept such a representative but I don’t see much opposition to her or Labour’s quiet dropping of the loophole fix.

TheKeatingFive · 14/09/2024 10:23

Bridget Phillipson is apparently sick of this debate and had hoped these questions would go away.

I agree this is what Labour has been hoping for. We all need to do everything we can to make sure it doesn't go away. Although it's early days, I am hopeful that too much is out of the bag now to put it back in.
