I’m cold. But also poor so I’m doing my best to keep it off!

OP posts:
cardibach · 09/09/2024 19:58

I neither switch it on nor off. It’s set for 18 at the times I’ll be in and sitting about and if the temperature gets that low it comes on.

RobinEllacotStrike · 09/09/2024 20:00

I've just put mine on - just testing 😀😉

WhereTheHeckAreMyGlasses · 09/09/2024 20:00

God no - it’s staying a steady 22 degrees in the house in the day at the moment, cooling to about 19 overnight. DH has just swapped his shorts for joggers n the past half hour. We just have a fleecy blanket on our knees in the evening if i5 gets chilly, probably until about mid October. Hoodies and fleecy trousers are our next step. Heating not until the house won’t get above 18C.

Pilotingmyownlife · 09/09/2024 20:02

No but had to put some washing in the tumble dryer yesterday because it's too wet outside and it just was not drying on the airer.

dothehokeycokey · 09/09/2024 20:02

I've thought about it a few times int he last week as we've had rain and dark full days so no sun to warm up naturally.

It did go on for about 30mins last night as we were out at an event until 11 pm ish and it was nippy when we got in

I normally try and hold out till beginning of October as my heatings always set to a temperature rather than switched off but we will see.

Currently sat in a big jumper and fluffy socks to keep my feet warm.

Same here. I've used the tumble drier twice in two days, having not used it for months!

Ha ha! The annual September heating thread. I look forward to it coming round every year, like an old cuddly Autumn blanket.

I think the 9th is going pretty early, depending on where you live.

I also think it's helpful to put in posts where you actually DO live, to give people a bit of context - as there are Mumsnetters across the globe and some are no doubt roasting in 40 degree heat right now.

Gawd, time for me to start using the hide button, as long as I live I will never understand the weird obession with strangers heating habits.

If you're cold put it on, if not don't

HTH 😁

PurpleishDahlia · 09/09/2024 20:03

It hasn't been on yet, but it will come on on its own if the temperature in the stairwell drops below 15. I bet it will come on by Thursday.

Comefromaway · 09/09/2024 20:04

Mine is set to come on if it drops below 19 degrees and it hasn’t yet.

Iwontlethtesungodownonme · 09/09/2024 20:05

No. Doors and windows have been open all day and washing has been on the line.
North West.

PeachSloth · 09/09/2024 20:05

Had it on two days this month and a couple in August, had some fairly cold wet miserable days.

Boredlass · 09/09/2024 20:06

I’ve had it on. I’m in the North East. If I’m cold, it’s going on.

Diversion · 09/09/2024 20:06

The "feels like" temperature where I am is 13C. The dining room is currently 17.9C with the lounge, dining room, downstairs bathroom and all of the upstairs windows open. No need for the heating to go on yet, thank goodness.

brimfulofpacha · 09/09/2024 20:06

Yes, had it on a few times already last month, we've had a few very cold autumny days already in the NW! My house is permanently cold which is great during heatwaves, but not right now.

Chocolateorange22 · 09/09/2024 20:07

Nope house temperature hasn't dropped below 22 degrees all week. Windows are wide open still. Poorly insulated 80's house so once frosts start the house takes a lot of heating up

West Midlands oh and I'm still in shorts and short sleeve t-shirts at the moment

Motheranddaughter · 09/09/2024 20:08

Yes

HollaHolla · 09/09/2024 20:08

No. I'm in Central Scotland, and wandering around the house in bare feet and short sleeves. No heating on.
Mind you, I am menopausal, so maybe my internal furnace finally has a use!?

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 09/09/2024 20:09

I did think about it yesterday but out oodie in. Booked to go away in caravan in October and bought dh an oodie for it. I expect it’ll be cold.

CasperGutman · 09/09/2024 20:09

Ah, it's time for this thread is it? I haven't put my heating on yet. And in fact, I won't be switching it on at all, because it's been "on" all summer. Only it hasn't been heating anything because I have a thermostat.

At some point, probably later this month, the house will cool down enough that the thermostat will cause the boiler to heat water and circulate it through the radiators, but I won't need to make any decisions to trigger that.

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 09/09/2024 20:11

No, it's hasn't been that cold here (SE England). I don't have any "rules" about it not going on before a certain date or anything though, so when it gets cold enough it will go on regardless of the date

Bbq1 · 09/09/2024 20:11

We are still putting a fan on in the bedroom overnight! In the NW.

Bbq1 · 09/09/2024 20:12

theteddybear · 09/09/2024 19:58

Yes it went on just after dinner as I was cold. I said oh a wee twenty minutes. Just turned it off, so it was on for probably 90mins 🙈 and the house is lovely and toasty 😃

September I would expect it to be on. We had some weeks of putting it on in June and July this year which is utterly ridiculous but there were days where the high was 12 degrees!

You don't need the heating on when it's 12 degrees!

PickledMuffin · 09/09/2024 20:14

Had it on Sunday!

cardibach · 09/09/2024 20:16

Bbq1 · 09/09/2024 20:12

You don't need the heating on when it's 12 degrees!

You do if it’s also 12 inside. My thermostat is set for 18, and that’s at the lower end if what’s healthy for people and buildings. Letting your house get too cold can be a false economy.

YouBelongWithMe · 09/09/2024 20:16

Scotland here. Windows open in the bedroom, no sign of the heating going on anytime soon.

We're in Oodies and cosy socks but not COLD.
