Lighthearted post.

Just that really 🤣 I’m very new to vinted. So let’s hear your Vinted horror stories!

I agree with you OP - many Vinted buyers are sooo cheeky with their offers! I have a pile of stuff to sell but honestly have to psyche myself up to deal with the hassle. It’s worse than FB marketplace 🤣

Flittingaboutagain · 07/09/2024 12:43

What is butt hurt?

sunsu · 07/09/2024 12:44

I find buyers really cheeky on Vinted in a way I’ve never had with other selling platforms. Someone bought an item from me and then messaged to say they only wanted it posted in recycled packaging! I was like sorry you take the purple mailing bags I have or nothing 😂 I’ve also had super cheeky offers that just irritated me, it’s brand new clothes that are never worn for £5, if you can’t afford it don’t message me asking how low I will accept! I ended up taking most of it off and donating to charity because the messages were so annoying and not worth the hassle for the sake of £2/3!

I haven't done vinted myself, but my mum has sold a few items... one was to be shipped by putting it in a locker. Mum got to the locker but there was no paperwork, so she decided not to put the item in... so she contacted the buyer about it be of course they thought it was a scam so didn't buy it again!

There’s never any paperwork with InPost lockers. You just put the parcel in and the sticker gets put on when it’s collected by InPost.

BoneTiredandWired · 07/09/2024 12:45

Sellers are just as annoying as buyers... 🫠

Lammveg · 07/09/2024 12:45

I saw someone selling the most filthy pair of shoes I'd ever seen. They said they could 'wipe them before posting' lol

Lighthearted post!

I’m new to selling on vinted but have heard lots from friends and seen online about very cheeky buyers.

I’ve had some very ridiculous offers for brand new items with tags and generally messed about. Of course you haggle and offer what you want to pay for items. Instances of being offered 79p on a £75 dress 🤣

Did anyone see the TikTok where a seller said they weren’t able to complete the order because they were distressed by the Molly Mae/ Tommy Fury break up 🙈

Well this is obviously made up bollocks as it doesn’t allow you to make any offer, only within a percentage of the asking price

Ihavenoclu · 07/09/2024 12:46

ThisFunHedgehog · 07/09/2024 12:32

Also, seeing things packaged in crisp bags or plastic bottles puts me off buying. It’s easy enough to send everything in a mailing bag.

That IS ridiculous. Has that happened? I'd be horrified if something turned up in a crisp bag.

lovepotionnumbernine · 07/09/2024 12:46

I made an account because I've got loads of stuff to flog! But I haven't used it yet because I'm unsure about packing and posting. What do you ladies pack items for post in and who pays, is it like eBay where I can ask the buyer to pay?

User364837 · 07/09/2024 12:47

I do get annoying offers too but I just decline and then at some point someone comes along and offers the asking price.
it’s not worth the bother to me of posting anything for less than £3 so I give it a certain amount of time then take to the charity shop or do a doorstep collection for stuff that hasn’t sold

WhereIsMyWhippetAndFlatcap · 07/09/2024 12:47

They seem to have removed the limit recently.

I don't think they have. One of my childish family members used to like to piss about on eBay years ago and send me joke offers, he can't do it on vinted because of the percentage cap the pp mentioned, I've just had a go a few seconds ago and on an £80 item you can't put an offer in lower than £48, a warning pops up to say it cant be any more than 40 percent off asking price. Tried again on a few other items and had the same warning.

I'm sure some buyers are ridiculous and offer super low offers but 79p for a £75 item isn't possible.

Of course there are lots great buyers on Vinted. I’m not tarring everyone with the same brush! This thread is specifically about less than ideal buyer interactions so you can all stop with being butt hurt.

I mean, I don't even have Vinted - spot the bored person! - but this is an obvious 'tar them all with the same brush' thread title so maybe you shouldn't get butt hurt when people say that. Maybe it's you being RIDICULOUS

Hyperbowl · 07/09/2024 12:48

With respect you’ve started an AIBU thread with the title ‘Vinted buyers are RIDICULOUS’ which is a generalisation in itself and then when people offer their counter opinions you call people “butt hurt” and tell them to calm down? No one is being anything other than polite and calm besides you who keeps quoting people ordering them to chill out for no reason. 🤣 Are you new to Mumsnet as well because telling people how to feel when you’re asking for other’s perspectives through the form of AIBU will not go down well just because you’ve added the words “lighthearted”. Not really the lighthearted thread you seem to want to think it is. 😬

The buyer always pays postage on Vinted.

I use parcel bags off Amazon or re-use packaging I’ve received / ASOS packaging etc.

Star81 · 07/09/2024 12:41

There are a small amount of buyers who literally want to buy your items for nothing. I’ve had messages asking if I’d accept stupidly low amounts (they can’t offer that low if they use make and offer due to set limit)

The other very annoying thing is people buying and then messaging you, can you post this asap as I need it in 4 days time.if they want to know if this is possible just message before buying. The rules on Vinted on postage times are clear and people seem to want shop service when it’s not a shop ! I usually post same or next day but on one occasion a buyer bought at 11pm on a Sunday and then cancelled sale 8am Tuesday morning as it wasn’t posted quickly enough(she had t even messaged asking for super quick postage) - luckily I saw her message as parcel was in car on way to lockers.

This is exactly what I mean! The buyer can still offer on an item by privately messaging you regardless of the offer limit. Nothing stops them from messaging with silly offers, which is what I’m referring to when I say that SOME buyers can be ‘ridiculous’. Wanting items for next to nothing when they’re already cheap too.

Yes, this seems to be a big problem on Vinted. Being hounded by the buyer to ship asap because they’re in a rush.

What paperwork would she be expecting? You shove it in the locker and the courier does the rest. You get an email confirming its dispatch and with In Post I’m pretty sure you can scan a barcode on the screen at the end to track it.

Normallynumb · 07/09/2024 12:49

I'm a frequent buyer on Vinted and I'm always considerate and polite
If an item is beyond my budget, I don't buy it. I don't think I've offered less on an item, but have accepted sellers offers.

ABirdsEyeView · 07/09/2024 12:49

"Someone bought an item from me and then messaged to say they only wanted it posted in recycled packaging"

@sunsu you should have told them to post you the recycled packaging and if it got to you before the posting window arrived, you'd use it for their item. Make the stupid buggers be inconvenienced if they want this on a platform like vinted! Bet they would soon change their minds!

Thunderpunt · 07/09/2024 12:49

Ihavenoclu · 07/09/2024 12:42

I am pretty new to it as well but I'm quite enjoying it so far. The only poor interactions I have had was today when I received a jumper labelled as new without tags and it was clearly in very very used conditions. Still debating what to do with it. Can't be asked to argue but it is very annoying.

You don't ' accept the item' when Vinted asks you has the item arrived as expected- they raise the case and no funds are passed to the seller. But you must do this as soon as you get the item, Vinted only gives you a couple of days, otherwise will assume all is ok

PullTheBricksDown · 07/09/2024 12:50

Actually, this does read like someone reached the 'Use A Provocative Title!' section in Copywriting For Dummies and decided to try it out

I hate buy and sell sites with a passion. Ive tried them several times and always find that when i want to sell anything, apparently it must be priced at a ridiculously low price (think £2 on a £40 top) despite being practically new, but when i want to buy something, apparently it being second hand is no reason to expect to pay less than 80% of the full RRP for the new version 🤨

Exactly this. I've given up on it, charity shops only for me now.

I’ve usually had a paper receipt that gives the date, time and number of parcels being sent.

You couldn't make that offer. An offer has to be a minimum percentage of the listed price.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 07/09/2024 12:53

I had one issue after selling about 50 things. Buyer said that the £5 jersey trousers she'd bought from me weren't 'worn once' because there was a bobble on them. Photo of bobble I hadn't even spotted. Back and forth a few emails with me saying no worries, send them back, while she repeatedly told me I'd lied and so on. Then she clicked the box to say they'd arrived, the money went into my account and she wrote a really shitty bit of feedback. I decided not to bother with Vinted anymore.

TheHeadOfTheHouse · 07/09/2024 12:53

Ive sold over 400 items on Vinted, so would class myself as an experienced seller.

its rare I encounter an issue with a buyer or a seller really. The only issue I did have is that I bought a Barbour coat listed as new without tags, then in the description “never been worn, only took the tags off and was put in my wardrobe”.

so I bought it, and when it arrived it had gingerbread crumbs in the pocket. I questioned the seller on this and she replied that she had worn it, and never said it wasn’t worn. I then screenshot her listing and sent it to her, she then got very defensive and accused me of being petty.

I left her bad feedback explaining the situation, and in return she did the same to me, describing me as a whinger.
