Lighthearted post.

Just that really 🤣 I’m very new to vinted. So let’s hear your Vinted horror stories!

Also, seeing things packaged in crisp bags or plastic bottles puts me off buying. It’s easy enough to send everything in a mailing bag.

Jeez god knows what you’re buying?? I’ve sold and brought hundred of items and never seen anything in crisp packaging!! The worst item I’ve had is smelt musty or of cigarette smoke and I’ve always advised the seller (nicely) of this. You must be buying some crud….

Partylikeits1985 · 09/09/2024 08:00

Some sellers really don’t think about packaging though.

I bought a jumper once that had been placed in a plastic bag and then tightly wrapped with packaging tape, literally all around the bag. Very secure but how exactly do you open said package? I had to cut into it with scissors and was very lucky not to cut the jumper at the same time 😂

@Woahtherehoney

It’s not unreasonable to ask but it is unreasonable to get the hump if I say no!

Well we're in agreement then. My point is it's not unreasonable to enquire. Seller's here are acting like it's a cheek to even ask when I've paid. I don't agree with stropping either. I think the issue is you're judging by the rude buyers.

Sartre · 09/09/2024 09:36

I had one buyer complain in the feedback that the dress had a couple of long hairs on it and it was ‘really off putting’, as if the dress was a meal in a restaurant… Just wash it or pick the hairs off, it’s just fucking hair.

Anyway, overall I’ve found vinted pretty straight forward and much better than eBay.

I’ve not bought anything myself from Vinted… As I said seeing things packaged in bags for life, cereal boxes, plastic bottles puts me off buying. Unless, of course, the seller states in their profile they use genuine mailing bags.

@MartinCrieffsLemon You wouldn't order from online on Standard Delivery 3-5 Working Days and then email to ask the company to send it immediately. You'd use the Next Day Delivery as that offered what you needed.

Similarly, you should ask the buyer beforehand to make sure they can meet your need rather than purchasing with a set Delivery time and then asking for quicker.

That's moot because Vinted literally doesn't offer any other options for delivery timescales, so it's less a choice and more being in a bind. So you're forced to request.

Yes wisdom dictates that you should ask beforehand. But if I haven't and I suddenly realise I need it sooner what on earth is wrong with a friendly: Hiya, sorry to be a pain, but I really need this item to arrive ideally before Saturday. Is it possible you could post it today or tomorrow morning?

If you take umbrage and get massively faffed over that and give me rudeness or a terse reply or quote Vinted shipping times to me, for even asking after I've paid money for your item, you won't be getting a good review from me, not because you refused, no, but because you are being totally unreasonable and acting like you're doing me a big favour.

A reply like: Hey, sorry but I live 3 miles away from the drop off locker/I work Mondays till 6pm or I'll see if I can, but I really can't guarantee it unfortunately.

Will be understandable and absolutely fine.

OP, if you've not bought yourself, where are you seeing these things?

JournalistEmily · 09/09/2024 10:17

Vinted buyers are all lovely.
eBay ones are awful. And eBay fees are sooo high.
Hope Vinted finishes eBay off.

Heidi1976 · 09/09/2024 10:17

I generally price things quite low for what they are worth and still get people wanting to pay £2 for an item that's on for £2.50 that is already heavily discounted. That's my only bugbear so far with it.

eBay sometimes does reduced seller fees. I think it’s usually 80% off.

Family, friends, my DH, all over TikTok (although I don’t believe everything on the internet lol).

“Look what I’ve just received my item in” sends picture of a used cereal box.

The old cat food box was the funniest, although that was eBay.

OP posts:
Whydontclothesfitanymore · 09/09/2024 13:45

Was the box clean and odourless? If it was why are people upset their items were sent in non standard packaging? It's inkeeping with the ethos of the site isn't it?

skyeisthelimit · 09/09/2024 13:52

I am not a shop though and vinted is a platform for selling second hand items.

If you want it urgently ask before you buy. I say no and you choose not to buy. I can only post on certain days of the week . I abide by vinted's rules and time frame. I never mind if an order is cancelled because I can't post for 2 days.

But as a buyer, if I want something urgently, I don't use vinted, I use a store like Amazon where I can get next day delivery

I am not a shop just because I am selling on vinted, I am a person who is offloading second hand items, using vinted exactly what it was created for.

roses2 · 09/09/2024 14:08

I am looking for a pair of football shoes for DS and emailed a seller who had vague photos: "Any damage to the material, rips, tears etc"?

Their response: "no, just stains" and they sent me the attached.

So the shoes have no rips? Really??? What's that then on the left shoe? Some people are completely oblivious.

Some people are taking your post a little too personally. Maybe they know they are the pain in the arse buyers 🙃

Anyway, I agree. People posting the wrong stuff is sooooo annoying. I had one this week where it took me ages to collect it because the barcode for the shop to scan wasn’t coming through then I got it home and opened it to find one half of the bundle was the wrong stuff. The main reason I ordered it was for a set of 3 t-shirts and she’d sent me an entirely different set so then I’ve got to fuck around to return it and still don’t have the item I wanted.

I also ordered a denim jacket for my son that always listed as nearly new. It may have been but when it arrived it absolutely stunk of cigarettes. Even after washing I don’t want to put it on him so will probably just give it away now.

This has just happened to me with a ladies' Superdry shirt. Opened the packet and the smell of stale fags wafted out. Lovely. I've nothing against smoking actually, but I'd wash the item then keep it in a smoke free room before sending it (even then it'd probably still smell a bit).

No it’s smelt meaty. It was a higher value collectors type toy item so with that in mind, I probably would expect better packaging. This happened with eBay though, not Vinted. Mailing bags are pretty inexpensive.

I have found a few items I’ve bought to be really smelly, damp and dusty or smelling of cigarettes. I’ve complained but nothing was done. 😞

Exactly

I reuse packaging so long as clean and sturdy

Why would I waste money on proper packaging and add more rubbish into the world when I've got a perfectly good box right there?

Oh no 😣! Washing the item first is basic as it’s expected, dry cleaning I can understand more. This is why I always list that I’m pet and smoke free. I think it should be a standard category to have to fill in, the same as condition.

There’s a difference between a non odourless cardboard box and a smelly cat food box though isn’t there ?

Oh no that’s such a shame. You really ought to have been refunded. It seems that sellers are more problematic then 😣

I'm with you, but Vinted has unique items you may not find on Amazon (part of the attraction of the site).

Regarding packaging, I agree that the plastic bags you can bulk buy kind of defeat the purpose a bit. I have no probs with items arriving in pre-used shopping bags, previous shoe boxes, or even old cereal boxes, whatever, as long as it is 1.Clean 2.Odourless 3.Sturdy enough to survive shipping.

It's a unique feature of Vinted.

I'm going to agree that as regards packaging (at least) people are expecting regular standard shop services, when it's meant to be avoiding the waste associated with fashion.

Jellybeanbag · 09/09/2024 18:29

Sellers, how much money do you actually make? Am I right in thinking items are usually sold for a few pounds. Is it too much hassle?

weareallqueens · 09/09/2024 18:50

It can take a while for the £2/3 to add up, but I generally only use it to buy other items from Vinted so it's enough to do that. I rarely buy any occasion stuff for the DC new and have had things like converse like new.

I also reuse packaging. These plastic bags are such a waste of plastic unless they're being reused multiple times.
