To wonder (thinking about this awful French rape case) if humans are just rotten

OptimismvsRealism · 05/09/2024 15:04

It wasn't just the husband - at least 80 men went along with this. Guys with ordinary lives drawn out of nowhere.

I wonder if it would be better if we were to just wind things up as a species.

I’ve just found it, although I wish I hadn’t 🤬

She’s written a book about it, but has to leave court today when viewing the evidence became too distressing. The whole thing is horrifying.

Doodleflips · 05/09/2024 16:12

Ok, well I did. It’s not a point to prove, it’s an awful story :(

Yeah I also read that

KateMiskin · 05/09/2024 16:14

But my Dh and DS are just wonderfully incredibly nice! Are you insinuating that they are not? How very dare you!

🙄

SilenceInside · 05/09/2024 16:14

3 to 5 men left when they realised the situation, but didn't call the police or do anything at all to help her. Even contacting her anonymously might have helped stop it sooner. It only stopped because the vile husband was caught up skirting and then it all came out.

OhMyGodAChicken · 05/09/2024 16:14

Apparently her daughter let out an inhuman scream when she heard what her father had done; her sons “didn’t say much” and told her not to be so silly.

Im astounded this courageous woman is still standing.

Stath · 05/09/2024 15:05

Not humans
Men

Yes. Men. Always men.

It's not women doing this.

INeedAPensieve · 05/09/2024 16:16

Please change the title of this. It's men. It's men.

EmilyGilmoreCardiganEnergy · 05/09/2024 16:16

@southpawsofthenorth @BeyondSmoake

I'm not saying women are entirely responsible for men's actions and wrongdoings ffs but these men were children and young adults once and they will have had mothers who might take some responsibility for the fact their sons turned into animals.

In the same way I'd look at parents and the community around children who were involved with the recent racist riots.
You can't simply say it's a man problem goodbye.
It's a society problem.

I have raised a son to adulthood he is feminist, and a person with compassion and care for fellow human beings and I take credit for that.
Why can't it work the other way.

Yes, I refuse to be blamed for the acts of men.

I’ve read multiple articles now and not seen anything about the daughter.

"Two months after his initial arrest, Mr. Pelicot was arrested again and charged with aggravated rape, drugging and a list of sexual abuse charges. He is also accused of violating the privacy of his wife, daughter and two daughters-in-law on suspicion of illegally recording, and at times distributing, intimate photos of them."

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/02/world/europe/france-husband-rape-drug-trial-mazan.html

The daughter has said in several interviews that she is convinced she was drugged and raped too, I assume because of some side effects of the drugs. She has written a book about it.

JFDIYOLO · 05/09/2024 16:17

@Ilovemyshed can you also as confidently name the 70+ men who raped that one drugged woman?

Because men don't interfere with what other men do with their own property, do they?

The more I learn about how so many men behave, the less I trust them.

Yes, there are decent men, but where the fuck are they when this sort of thing needs reporting? So many men knew, and none did anything!

Smartiepants79 · 05/09/2024 16:18

Lizzie67384 · 05/09/2024 15:55

Do go on?

You really want me to dig through google and find you a few female, murders, rapists and child abusers? Because they do exist.
I believe very strongly in female only spaces.
I agree that a large proportion of violent crime is perpetrated by men. BUT a blanket ‘all men are evil’ completely undermines these discussions. It’s like saying all Muslims are terrorists. And all girls
like pink.

KateMiskin · 05/09/2024 16:19

Nobody has said all men are evil. Straw man. The majority of sexual assaults are committed by men.

So you're blaming the mums....

What about the dads? Men mostly learn about how to treat women from behaviour of the male role models around them.

user1471538275 · 05/09/2024 16:20

She must be so angry, but also relieved.

Relieved that she wasn't going mad like she thought she was and that his abuse is now on display, his and all the other men are all being shown up for who and what they are.

Let's hope the sentencing reflects the nature of this crime, although nothing can give her the years back.

She has regained her dignity that was stolen from her by his actions and her courage is astonishing.

By the same token, those 'men' have fathers.

SilenceInside · 05/09/2024 16:20

@Smartiepants79 no none is saying all men are evil! That's a logic error. What people are saying is that the people who commit these crimes are (virtually always) men.

IDontHateRainbows · 05/09/2024 16:25

Apparently one said he didn't think it was rape because the husband was there... like the wife is merely his possession.

This was why marital rape laws took so long to happen, before then it was not about the woman's rights at all, but the man's rights for other men not to 'take his property '

Doodleflips · 05/09/2024 16:12

EmilyGilmoreCardiganEnergy · 05/09/2024 16:25

@Barrenfieldoffucks yes they do , they have Mums and Dads and grandparents and teachers and an entire community surrounding them that somehow can't instil basic decency , morals and goodness into them - if some men are good men why is that, and how is human kind still failing to produce more good men.

ChickenandaCanofCoke · 05/09/2024 16:26

"Alleged rapists involved in the case include civil servants, ambulance workers, soldiers, prison guards, nurses, a journalist, a municipal councillor, and truck drivers."

Just everywhere you fucking turn

OneTwoTen · 05/09/2024 16:26

I know it's not all men and your Nigel is a great guy, but fucking hell, what is wrong with them?

This rape case, multiple incidents in the news recently of fathers murdering their exes and their children, that poor Ugandan athlete who was burned alive by her ex, all those 50 and 60 something men who rioted on the streets and tried to set fire to hotels full of vulnerable people...

Men are not okay and I don't know that they ever were or that they ever will be.

KateMiskin · 05/09/2024 16:26

Always on this thread the handmaidens rush forward to say that not all men are evil, when no one has said that all men are evil. We are saying that the majority of violent crimes are committed by men. If you hear about a horrible rape, it will have been committed by a man.

No one is saying ALL men are evil are they? Can you point to a poster who said this?

Please do find me any similar crime to this that has been committed by a woman?
