To wonder (thinking about this awful French rape case) if humans are just rotten

It wasn't just the husband - at least 80 men went along with this. Guys with ordinary lives drawn out of nowhere.

I wonder if it would be better if we were to just wind things up as a species.

I suppose you could argue that these male perpetrators have been (we can assume) raised by mothers / women and in a society that includes women so maybe as women we can take some small responsibility for being a part of their attitude and abhorrent mindset towards their victims and women in general.
It does come down to individual choices but we all have a part to play in shaping the world we live in / want to live in.

What would men do if they didn’t have punishment as a consequence?

I hate to think.

Look at what happens at war when men can get away with it.

This is why it is imperative that women have access to safe spaces.

Some of these terrible men believed that the husband "a right to do whatever he wanted with his wife". No punishment due in their eyes.

Who has the rules of misogyny to hand...?

Meditationgame · 05/09/2024 16:03

Humans no, look at how incredibly brave the survivor is being by waiving her anonymity and letting the trial be held in public.

Men are disgusting. Men are the problem.

I saw that. It’s horrendous

I’ve read multiple articles now and not seen anything about the daughter.

Smittenkitchen · 05/09/2024 16:05

What really drove this home for me (re. men, not humans generally) was where it was said that something like only 3 or 5 men left shortly after arriving at the house and understanding the scenario. And 70+ men stayed. That made me cry yesterday.

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 05/09/2024 16:05

It’s an awful news story. He let men rape her and told them not to use condoms. One was even HIV seropositive. She contracted several STIs and her husband had the audacity to accuse her of having affairs whilst he was playing golf or away on trips. So much trauma for her to deal with.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 05/09/2024 16:06

YANBU we’ll take ourselves out at some point no doubt.

OhMyGodAChicken · 05/09/2024 16:07

It’s men, OP. You know it is.

My god. I’ve just read this story. Poor woman. Surely though she must have felt odd when she woke up on a regular basis after being drugged? He’d have had to give her some heavy duty stuff for her not to wake

Yes she did get after effects from the drugs - she believed that she might be suffering from dementia.

She also had unexplained STDs - her husband accused her of having an affair.

Newbutoldfather · 05/09/2024 16:07

Humans and men aren’t disgusting at all, especially when you actually compare us to other species.

The most disgusting things humans do to other humans pale into insignificance when compared to the animal kingdom. If we made species instinct due to disgusting behaviour, we wouldn’t have any life at all.

Humans are the kindest and most empathetic of all the species. There is a tiny percentage, though, who are more like your average chimpanzee or an average black widow spider.

Unfortunately the internet allows the vilest of humans to find each other. If we should make anything extinct, it is the internet, which we just aren’t evolved to deal with.

I’ve read multiple articles now and not seen anything about the daughter.

In the French press, it details how they found images of his young daughter asleep and dressed in lingerie she didn’t own. He swears he hasn’t abused her but it seems highly unlikely.

For 10 years, she and her children were worried that she had dementia, due to the drugs HE used.

She also went to the gynecologist (more than once) with symptoms of a STI, and her husband accused her of cheating.

Do you mean this?

Ilovemyshed · 05/09/2024 16:08

Some humans.
Not just men.

Myra Hindley
Tracey Connolly
Rose West.

The anti-male sentiment is quite astonishing.

I knew the 'Not All Men' Brigade would turn up on this thread before long...

But.

You can name those women.

How vanishingly rare is it that women commit horrendous crimes, that you are able to name them?

What about the multitude of men who DO commit these crimes? Can you name all of the hundreds of thousands?

OhMyGodAChicken · 05/09/2024 16:11

Ilovemyshed · 05/09/2024 16:08

The anti-male sentiment is quite astonishing.

He found 72 men in the vicinity of his small town, all of whom were willing to rape his wife (some multiple times) and none of whom reported it. The men who saw his posts online didn’t report it either.

If you read about this case and your thought is “poor men,” I despair.

I’ve just found it, although I wish I hadn’t 🤬

The women are few, to the point of notoriety. The men are many so they can become anonymous as a result. That's the difference.

3 very famous women (famous beacuse its rare for women to be incolved in such things) vs absolute THOUSANDS of male murderers and rapists.

Very equal.

SilenceInside · 05/09/2024 16:12

@Ilovemyshed the fact you can name those women so easily and that some are from decades ago actually shows you how unusual they are. Unlike the endless list of men who have committed similar and worse crimes, names you'd have never heard of who killed multiple women, children, men.

This shocked and sickened me. Vile bastards.

Just impossible to imagine what this poor woman must be going through
