Not removing sunglasses - unreasonable?

coxesorangepippin · 31/08/2024 15:49

Met up with a friend yesterday, who introduced me to her sister.

We sat outside, it was sunny.

The sister did not remove her sunglasses the entire time (2 hours).

It bothered me. I couldn't see her eyes.

Aibu?

Yes you are. FFS

TheShellBeach · 31/08/2024 15:50

Eh? Why did you want to see her eyes?

TheShellBeach · 31/08/2024 15:51

🍿

MissyMoz · 31/08/2024 15:51

Maybe she was hungover?

I am autistic and wear sunglasses alot as any glare drives me insane.

It also triggers migranes.

It's really not a problem. Why do you need to see her eyes?

Celticliving · 31/08/2024 15:51

You were sat outside, where it was sunny and she had her sunglasses on?

OakElmAsh · 31/08/2024 15:51

Outside in the sun, I would be really uncomfortable squinting without sunglasses, so I would have kept them on the whole time too

user1471556818 · 31/08/2024 15:52

It does seem a bit rude not to for a very short time .However sitting outside in the sun is exactly what they are made for .I would have kept mine on as described as I'm prone to headaches in bright sunshine.

Comedycook · 31/08/2024 15:52

Yabu.

I don't remove my sunglasses if I'm outside and it's daytime. They are prescription so I cannot see without them! I often keep them on indoors too... especially when I go into shops.

Movinghouseatlast · 31/08/2024 15:52

You were sitting outside in the sun so she kept her sunglasses on. I would have done the same.

Iloveeverycat · 31/08/2024 15:53

Maybe it's better than having to put her hands over her eyes to stop the sun going in them.

Legendairy · 31/08/2024 15:54

This is a really weird post, you were sat outside and it was sunny, why would she remove her
sunglasses?

Watto1 · 31/08/2024 15:54

Maybe they were prescription? I have to keep mine on otherwise I can’t see!

RuthW · 31/08/2024 15:55

What if they were normal glasses that go dark in sunlight?

Cerealkiller4U · 31/08/2024 15:55

I ha meningitis when I was younger and wear sunglasses even indoors.

Maybe this is why? Something like that

spicedemerald · 31/08/2024 15:55

I wear my sunglasses outside even if it’s not sunny because a) I have sensitive eyes and b) I have prescription sunglasses. It’s not rude-at all.

Brickiscool · 31/08/2024 15:56

I have very pale blue eyes and nerve damage in one eye, I never remove mine. I also wear them on what other people might consider quite qrey days. That awful white sky we have in the UK in the winter when it's not warm or sunny is the worst .

StolenChanel · 31/08/2024 15:57

Who are the 6% who think this is a totally normal thing to be upset about? Because it’s not…

Musicaltheatremum · 31/08/2024 15:57

My optician said you should always have sun glasses on outside in bright weather to reduce the incidence of cataract in later life. I'm not good as I have varifocals and haven't got prescription ones but do find bright sun uncomfortable. Maybe your friend is the same

Octavia64 · 31/08/2024 15:59

I have a friend who is blind. He always wears sunglasses

Idontjetwashthefucker · 31/08/2024 15:59

Just when you think threads can't get any weirder...

It's good to protect your eyes, but also I'm autistic and need sunglasses more often than most to reduce light sensitivity and sensory overload.

I know eye contact is a big part of "connecting" for non-autistic people, so I imagine that's why you're bothered by not being able to see her eyes properly. You feel like you couldn't connect with her?

BrigadierEtienneGerard · 31/08/2024 16:01

I was always taught that wearing sunglasses in company was rude.

Clearly your friend wasn't brought up properly.

Comedycook · 31/08/2024 16:02

I was walking round the supermarket recently...I had my sunglasses on because they're prescription and I need them to see...I prefer to keep them on than switch to my ordinary glasses as my eyes are also very sensitive to bright lights. A random woman I walked past made a point of saying loudly to her children who do I think I am and about how I must think a lot of myself blah blah blah... absolutely bizarre. I was amazed she was so bothered about it

BeMintBee · 31/08/2024 16:02

I wear sunglasses a lot outside and half the time forget they’re on. I doubt she consciously decided to not to remove them. Bit weird in this situation to expect her to. How long exactly would you have like to see her eyes for during the two hours?
