Halloween duvet sets. WTF?

Saw in Home Bargains today. Took no notice of sizes or prices.

This is worse than Xmas bedding and cushions.

I think having themed bedding is pointless and besides you want a Xmas free room to chill out

It is tattification. This idea that you mark every day in the calendar by buying mindless tat, made in China and shipped round the world to places like B&M or The Range, or direct from tat-sites like Temu and Shein.

Beginning to think the Disney movie Wall-E was actually a documentary.

I often think that Wall-E is a documentary too

I didn't know that Halloween interior design was a thing until last year I was in the queue in Primark and overheard two women discussing what they were buying for "Halloween decor". It included duvet covers, throws, bathmats and various pumpkin shaped ceramic jars. One asked the other where she stored the Halloween stuff when she changed over for the christmas decor, and she replied that she just gave everything away to the charity shop as she not only didn't have the space, but there would be new stuff out every year so she wouldn't want to keep old stuff!

@merrymaryquitecontrary

mote money than sense, but at least other people will be able to get some bits they might have been able to buy at retail prices.

i wish I could be that emotionally detached from stuff!

brunettemic · 31/08/2024 00:04

Don’t buy it then, not worth getting your (non themed) knickers in a twist about it is it?

Needmorelego · 31/08/2024 07:49

@SummerSplashing ooops....bad maths 😬😂😱
Yes you are very correct 😂😂😂

We live in a consumerist society, where vendors have to keep seeking new ways to separate individuals from their money.

Exactly this.
See also ‘hygge’ - IMO a very clever marketing ploy to sell blankets, candles and throws.

It's so wasteful! It's even worse than Christmas bedding because at least you can use Christmas ones for 6 weeks or so

But Halloween comes every year, so you could get a decade out of them if you have kids the right ages.

I am not a fan of plastic tat but some printed bedding doesn’t seem that offensive. Could be cut up and used for costumes eventually.

BlackCatsAreBrilliant · 31/08/2024 08:23

I don't normally do seasonal themed stuff, but I do have a Halloween bedding set (which gets used all year) which has black cats on it. Because I own (am owned by?) several black cats.

We have different duvet covers for each of the 'festivals' throughout the year.
We begin on January 1st with the Feast of the Circumcision of Christ.

I have to admit it's not my favorite set as the pillow cases seem to be too short and consequently the pillow pokes out the end.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feast_of_the_Circumcision_of_Christ

🤣🤣🤣. I think I love you. This has made my morning.

Mynewsofa · 31/08/2024 08:43

I love it.

I don't have halloween bedding but I have some decs that are already out. You only use them for a short time year after year so they're not wasteful either.

If it makes people happy, there's nothing wrong with that.

Which is great, because people who would love to decorate, but can't afford even primark prices, get an opportunity to.

I buy a lot of Christmas decorations, bedding, kitchen etc. I wait for local appeals for families and then donate. I'm changing my quilt size, do have five Winter/Christmas bed sets to donate. Any tatty ones go to a local gull rescue.
Halloween for us starts in October (but autumn starts Sep 1st). Christmas decorating anytime in December. People call B&M/Home bargains etc Chav while saying it's a shame that the high street is dying off. Us Chavs are keeping retail and lots of jobs going.

LadyKenya · 30/08/2024 16:18

It is a good thing that buying all of these things is not mandatory. Each to their own, I say😒.

Exactly!

Fizbosshoes · 31/08/2024 09:29

I wouldn't buy Christmas or Halloween duvet sets. I have a pair of Christmas pjs, but I wear them all year round (it's cotton tshirt and long trousers) and a Christmas jumper

But they wouldn't make and sell stuff if people didn't buy it🤷‍♀️

EnjoyingTheSilence · 31/08/2024 09:50

As long as you reuse stuff I don’t see a problem. I buy new Halloween decorations when I see something fun, but I still use decorations that I bought over 25 years ago.

Fizbosshoes · 31/08/2024 11:03

On a very slightly related note I'm more offended by "teddy bear" bedding sets and thick fleecy ones. Sheets as well! I feel sweaty just looking at them....🤣🤣and how on earth do you get the whole set in the washing machine?!

You don't realise that Halloween has only just become a 'thing' in the UK.

Except it has been for lots of people for years and posters just like to complain about things that other people do.

Give it a few weeks and there'll be the annual complaints of how Christmas is so commercialised, people spend too much and starts earlier every year ad nauseum.

Which has been a complaint for my entire lifespan of almost 50 years. And before.

Dickens wrote in 1843 in a Christmas Carol about the commercialisation of Christmas and people wasting 'money on frivolities'.

Somehow, some people seem to think there's an astonishing new problematic social phenomenon that they've just realised.

Every. Year.

BloodyWolves · 31/08/2024 11:11

And we’ll have Halloween on Christmas…

I have Halloween decorations up all year long. I have a stack of three light up pumpkins in my bathroom along with a witches boot tea light holder. Various signs with slogans such as ‘witches way’ up amongst other little trinkets. Strangely my three children all have a natural Halloween appreciation too! It must be genetic 😆🎃💀

Needmorelego · 31/08/2024 11:14

@Mynewsofa errr Halloween has not just become a "thing" in the UK. Most of the traditions (that people frequently blame America for) are Scottish (and Irish).

Prinnny · 31/08/2024 11:15

Some people are just joyless.

Questioning the need for seasonal bedding/decor is like asking why you would want a Louis Vuitton neverfull when you can use an Aldi bag for life.

Some people just like nice things, if you don’t then that’s fine, you do you but leave us alone in our nice cosy autumnal homes!

BabaYetu · 31/08/2024 11:21

SummerSplashing · 30/08/2024 23:59

@Needmorelego

mot wishing to be maths police but I'm sure you meant to say 1/4 of the year🫢

i need to win the lottery I NEED more Lego, Halloween for sure!!

I just finished my latest Lego build and am browsing wistfully. Maybe seasonal Lego is what I need

Needmorelego · 31/08/2024 11:23

@BabaYetu this is a good one.

Halloween duvet sets. WTF?

BlueEyedLeucy · 30/08/2024 16:27

We have ‘Halloween-y’ stuff in our home all year round! Granted, it’s part of a general pagan vibe, so there may be a spider web rug from tkmaxx, then an expensive handmade besom hanging by the door, or a hag stone hanging by the keys.

You are my "people" We (DDs and I) actually made our own Besoms and DH dutifully pretends not to notice them and the other "decorations" we "forget to take down".
We are loving the newer bits and bobs coming out each year

SandandSky · 31/08/2024 11:27

I got some lovely Halloween bedding for my DCs bedroom the other day and I can guarantee you it will be on their beds for most of the year because it’s their absolute favourite. One DC had a Halloween birthday party in summer

SuffolkUnicorn · 31/08/2024 11:29

ShamblesRock · 30/08/2024 16:27

Like this? It is very autumnal still.

I’ve got that 😂

SuffolkUnicorn · 31/08/2024 11:30

I prefer Halloween to Christmas
