To think we should all boycott John Lewis until they respect their female employees

This is a letter from a female employee of John Lewis's Cheadle branch. John Lewis told its female employees that they have to share toilets and locker rooms with trans identifying men. The employee says this is having a terrible effect especially on colleagues who have experienced trauma relating to men or who have religious reasons to not want to share a space with someone who is the opposite sex.

I just don’t get how you extrapolate that I don’t believe in any facts because I disagree with you on one point @BernardBlacksBreakfastWine.

We are allowed to disagree on this. It’s ok. There’s really no need to resort to being rude and hyperbolic every time someone doesn’t agree with you.

Because, as you must know, the statement in question was a fact. You don’t get to ‘disagree’ on fact and be taken seriously.

Elbone · 31/08/2024 14:51

Explain to me @DadJoke

When there are women here saying we want female-spaces for instances where we feel particularly vulnerable to male violence

and there are some males who demand access to these spaces…

Why do want the women to “toddle off” and let those males in? What is it about us that makes us so much easier to dismiss than the males?

You do know that trans women offend at the same rates and patterns as other males. We’re no less vulnerable to them as any other male.

So why do you prioritise males in female spaces over females in female spaces?

But you must also know that, outside of a certain group of posters on MN, it’s simply not something that is blindly accepted as fact.

On the contrary. There’s a small section of society (you included presumably) who deny this fact, but most people are not that deluded.

Why can’t gender critical people just toddle off occasionally and leave trans women alone? Why does their dislike of trans women mean they can impose their views on everyone else? Why are they co-opting women in general rather than accepting that most feminists, women’s organisations and RCCs support trans women?

i mean just take a day off from constant attacks and enjoy yourself. Stop making transphobia your raison d’etre. It’s just mind rot.

Standing up for single sex spaces isn't transphobic. I honestly don't know how you can read about what the nurses in Darlington went through and say what you just said. Maybe you didn't read about it because you don't care about women's experiences.

What it comes down to is very simple. Dadjoke thinks that women's feelings, experiences, safety matter much less than men's. That is the bottom line.

And if standing up for single sex paces IS transphobic, then by definition trans rights are in direct conflict with women’s rights.

So, I’m picking women’s rights.

It is a provable, observable scientific fact that human beings cannot change sex, any more than any other mammal.

Human sex is binary and immutable.

Any human who is male from conception remains male forever.

I was responding very gently to @BernardBlacksBreakfastWine who told me to fuck off.

You are, once again, conflating women in general with gender critical people in particular. Most feminists support trans women’s rights. It’s MRAs, incels, neo-Nazis, religious fundamentalists and gender critical people who don’t.

No, trans women don’t offend at the same rate as men, no, trans women in women’s loos don’t endanger women, no, single sex loos would not make women safer - quite the opposite and no, you do not get to impose your beliefs on people who have a right to be where they are.

No, I think gender critical peoples’ views should not be allowed to remove minority rights.

Anyway, there is only so much DARVO I can take from GC obsessives in one day so I am
out and muting this thread.

Dolatowski shows you're wrong, and there are others.

Dolatowski attacked a girl in a 'woman's' bathroom. I'm pretty sure if it had been labelled 'mixed sex' her parents wouldn't have allowed her to go in there alone.

Dolatowski is male bodied, 6ft 5 and identifies as a woman. But is in fact a male paedophile. He is no longer in prison for this crime. He uses women's toilets to abuse children- there was an incident of voyeurism prior to the attack. Unsurprisingly, having got away with the first crime, he escalated.

Why should trans identifying people have more rights than everyone else?

Which is the case if you think they should be welcome in opposite sex spaces.

You have zero evidence for this.

And we all know why that is.

I've already linked to a report to a parliamentary committee that says trans women commit sexual and violent offences at the same rate as men. It's possible that they carry out less credit card fraud but you're being deeply disingenuous to claim that they don't offend at the same rate as men.

I wonder if any other legally protected vulnerable group of oppressed people would have their comments removed when responding to someone of the oppressive class stating they shouldn’t have any rights to protect themselves.
Ah well, I guess that’s misogyny for you.

ElleWoods15 · 31/08/2024 15:53

I don’t think the deletion had anything to do with misogyny.

I think it had to do with the requirement (see the Talk Guidelines) to have a basic level of respect for other posters, and not resort to abuse.

You’re not being discriminated against, you’re being pulled up for behaviour which disrupts civil discussion. It’s quite different.

A tiny amount of delusional people accept trans women as women. A tiny amount of delusional people believe the earth is flat.

Both are incorrect.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 31/08/2024 16:17

Has anyone attempted to answer why men’s feelings and rights come before women’s due to having special feelings? Or are we (well one) still waltzing around insisting squares are circles if they say so?

Trans women have the same rights as anyone else. It’s the additional boundary pushing extra rights they think they are entitled to (they’re not) that women have a problem with.

We’re not talking about men.

We’re talking about trans women. Who are women. Which is why we’re not answering questions about men’s feelings.

Hth Wes. I thought it was clear previously, but apparently not.
