To think we should all boycott John Lewis until they respect their female employees

This is a letter from a female employee of John Lewis's Cheadle branch. John Lewis told its female employees that they have to share toilets and locker rooms with trans identifying men. The employee says this is having a terrible effect especially on colleagues who have experienced trauma relating to men or who have religious reasons to not want to share a space with someone who is the opposite sex.

There needs to be sufficient accommodation for disabled people, but the tiny handful of women who suffer PTSD because a trans women or a gay person might be in the loo can easily be included. Unisex loos are also an option.

On the basis that trans women have been using women’s loos for decades and it appears that it’s gender critical people with “concerns” for others who are complaining now, it’s not actually an issue - it’s just people who have made transphobia their whole personality being transphobic.

You seem to be really stretching now and sounding a bit silly.

The issue is men going into womens loos.
Not gay women, not religious women.

Being called transphobic because I don't want a man in MY toilet is just weird and a total insult.

  1. Can you explain why you think it is transphobic?
  2. Can you explain why womens rights and disabled rights should be pushed aside?

There's no such thing as cis women, in my opinion.

There are:
Women
Men

There are people who are transgender and people who are not transgender. Cis just means “not transgender.” Even if you think transgender people are “infected by gender ideology” that’s still the case. It’s a useful adjective in this discussion.

The same terminological battles happened with heterosexual/homosexual, too. People said “I’m not heterosexual, I’m normal.”

But to repeat my point without using the language you don’t like - the most commonly affect people when you introduce genital based loos are women who are not transgender being accused of being transgender.

Why would we be introducing genital based loos?
We already have them.
Women and Mens.

Remember:
Biological sex is fact.
Gender is thought.

There are people who pretend to be something they are not and never can be. We may need a word for them, we do not need a word for everyone else

And it's absolutely not the same as sexuality. Of course people can be homosexual or heterosexual or bisexual.

What people can't do, ever, is change sex.

You do realise it's classed as a hate crime, right?

What is? Pointing out that trans women are men? Wrong.

Your post is virtue-signalling nonsense. Why do you have such a problem with women asserting their boundaries? You’re so outraged that women have the nerve to say ‘umm actually, we don’t want men in our female-only spaces.’ Why?

You’ve got it all back to front. There is a wave of male entitlement, supported by the usual ‘useful idiot’ phenomenon, that is crapping all over women’s boundaries. But you’re outraged at the women trying to defend their spaces against this attack. It’s the classic ‘how dare you upset me by telling me I’m standing on your foot’ trope. Absolutely bonkers.

Please could you specify what it is that you think is transphobic?

I have autistic traits so would really appreciate this.

  1. For the same reason you should have no say over whether black women, Muslim women or lesbians are in women’s loos.
  2. It’s a reasonable accommodation for transphobes to use separate facilities as they are the ones with the issue. You are confusing “women’s rights” with gender critical peoples’ desire to change the law to exclude transgender people.

I'm pretty sure stating facts is not a hate crime in the uk.

Okay, I'm gonna say this really slow and keep saying it until it goes in.

We are

TheKeatingFive · 31/08/2024 12:47

We are objecting to MEN in WOMEN's spaces.

Everyone can see your disingenuous attempts to muddy the waters for what they are

DadJoke · 31/08/2024 12:48

@Petitchat perhaps you can now explain how chromosome based loos would be enforced and how it would solve the supposed problem?

BernardBlacksBreakfastWine · 31/08/2024 12:49

@LadyGrinningSoul8517

Starting to sincerely consider building up some evidence and going to the press and taking this further, because I am so sick of the ignorance on this website.

But do, please, do this. I could do with a laugh.

Instead of all this virtue-signalling and straw man nonsense from the MRAs, how about you actually just explain to us how you’re going to decide which men get to legitimately go in women’s spaces. How should it be arranged? Unless you think there’s never any need for single-sex spaces, ever, then you have to have some sort of idea what your alternative to a blanket ban is.

Sorry, I don't understand.

  1. I don't want any say what kind of women are in womens loos.. And I don't care as long as they're women.
  1. I have no desire to exclude anyone except men from the ladies loos.

There’s really no issue here then. Because trans women are indeed women, despite the opinions expressed by certain posters on this thread. So you have no objection to trans women using women’s loos in JL or otherwise. I think we’re all good :)

Are you a man? I find your patronising (and clueless) approach maddening in any case, but it’s much, much worse if you’re actually a man telling women to budge over and let men into their female-only spaces.

You, quite obviously, don’t need ‘chromosome-based’ door policies. In the overwhelming majority of cases, human beings can tell someone’s sex.

Yes, yes, we know ‘ha ha trans women have been using women’s loos for ages’ or whatever. But the fact is that they were there on sufferance. No one officially ok’d it and they would almost certainly have left if asked, back before everyone lost their minds.

Society functions by group acceptance of rules; you must know this. Things aren’t policed to the Nth degree every step of the way. If everyone generally agrees it’s not acceptable for men to be in women’s loos, women are reasonably safe in those spaces. If trans activists and useful idiots keep asserting a right to be in women’s loos - guess what? It becomes harder and harder to enforce that boundary.

Can you open your mind for one second just to consider how a woman might feel knowing she will be the one in the wrong if she doesn’t want a six foot man following her into the loos?

DadJoke · 31/08/2024 13:01

You want to exclude trans women, who have a legal right to be in women’s loos. That is, remove a right they already have. That’s straight-up transphobia. Your issue with trans women can be accomodated, but not by removing other peoples’ existing rights. Your desire to exclude people does not override their right to be there.

Now explain how single sex loos would be enforced and how they would solve the problem you think the current system causes.

BeachParty · 31/08/2024 13:01

Petitchat · 31/08/2024 12:58

Trans women are legally allowed to use the women's loos and always have been, so there's no issue
Let's just carry on as we always have instead of policing others. As has been pointed out it would be unenforceable and no, you can't "always tell"
