To think we should all boycott John Lewis until they respect their female employees

This is a letter from a female employee of John Lewis's Cheadle branch. John Lewis told its female employees that they have to share toilets and locker rooms with trans identifying men. The employee says this is having a terrible effect especially on colleagues who have experienced trauma relating to men or who have religious reasons to not want to share a space with someone who is the opposite sex.

@ElleWoods15 has not explained how males (who have small gametes) can become females (who have large gametes). Has not explained why women should not be allowed to have single sex spaces when they want them. Has not represented the Equality Act accurately. Perhaps you might help @ElleWoods15 out because in my eyes its not going well for the TRAs.

What exactly is it about the Equality Act you feel I’ve misrepresented @Lovelyview ?

Personally I find it quite reductive to be defined and referred to purely by my gametes, but each to their own I guess.

BernardBlacksBreakfastWine · 30/08/2024 23:20

No one can ever sensibly explain why a man wanting to be a woman should be accepted as a woman. It defies logic.

No one can explain why such a man should have his feelings prioritised over multiple women (without just coming out and saying they don’t give a shit about women).

No one can explain how a human can literally change sex because it’s a scientific impossibility.

They’re on a hiding to nothing. They try all sorts of mental gymnastics but it’s pretty ‘emperor’s new clothes’.

I have no issue with trans women using female facilities considering we have cubicles, they are private. Nothing to do with the voting being a basic right for everyone, give over

Edited

You have changing rooms with cubicles? That sounds.... unusual.

The Equality Act allows for the provision of separate or single sex services in certain circumstances under ‘exceptions’ relating to sex.

This applies even if you have a gender recognition certificate.

Therefore the law doesn't say that someone with a gender recognition certificate is female. They can be excluded based on their sex (male the case of TIMs)

Have a good evening

No because it wouldn’t bother me.

Huh? It's incredibly common.

@ElleWoods15 can you explain what makes someone born male, a woman? What is a woman if it's not an adult human female?

Petitchat · 31/08/2024 01:16

Willoo · 30/08/2024 21:19

At work we have a trans employee that uses female toilets. No one cares. This in a major company as well. I’d rather there were unisex toilets everywhere tbh.

For what reason?

Petitchat · 31/08/2024 01:22

ElleWoods15 · 30/08/2024 21:27

Oh my days. Your objection to unisex loos (not necessarily relevant to the question but hey) is that chaps miss the mark.

Deep.

Maybe you can explain why we women should accept "chaps missing the mark" in womens toilets?

Keepsmesane · 31/08/2024 06:04

Absolutely not, I wish I knew how to transfer this onto the Feminism section….. I read it too on Substack & posted on some relevant sites. I will put it on Feminism, that’s where all this stuff is more highlighted, thanks for sharing here, not enough women know about this state of affairs & how it impacts on women’s rights

Sorry I haven’t ready this whole thread if someone has already mentioned this but Trans identifying men are biological females.

Trans identifying women are male.

What is it that JL have proposed?

CeruleanBelt · 29/08/2024 18:01

Why would i care who John lewis lets into which toilet?

Thin end of the wedge. If they allow men into female changing areas how happy are parents going to be letting their girls undress in there?
This doesn’t just give rights to men who want to identify as women, it gives access to ANY man who wants in to the women’s changing areas because if it’s a case of self-ID, which JL member of staff is going to tackle a six foot bloke claiming to be a woman?

In my book that makes it all of our problem.

No.

'Trans men' is used to describe females but TIM is an attempt to be more accurate and sex based in language, so is a man who identifies as trans.

JL have made female spaces open to biological men.

Yes it is. Can't remember the last time I was in a changing room with curtains much less a communal one - haven't seen that since the 80s.

BrightDog · 31/08/2024 08:34

This landmark case verdict was just last week in Aus. You may argue that their having different legal positions on this means that it won’t happen here, but this thread is a great example of how corporations have already largely been captured by inclusivity trumping women’s need for their own spaces and the steady erosion of women’s rights.

Sall Grover is definitely someone to watch, although the MSM haven’t touched her with a barge pole for some bizarre reason. I’ve included the BBC article but well worth hearing her speak about this on YT or podcast.

Also worth noting that this topic doesn’t just affect women in Auz but also gay and lesbian groups and men only spaces too.

Roxanne Tickle (centre) looks on as she is surrounded by people while speaking to press outside the Federal Court of Australia in Sydney on 23 August.

Every single loo on the high street, in all public buildings and pretty much every single private business allows trans women in women’s loos.

The alternative - genital or chromosome based loos first does not solve the supposed problem (men in women’s loos) is unenforceable and the people who suffer most are gender non-conforming cis women who are falsely accused of being transgender.

if you are unable to share loos with gay people, people of different religions or transgender people, you should be accommodated in the disabled loos.

You think non disabled people should use the disabled loos?

More rights being trampled on then?

Why have you added gay people, people of different religions and trans men ? It’s trans women we don’t want to share with, otherwise known as men. You’re well aware of that yet think if you add the other people you mentioned it makes it look unreasonable.

DadJoke · 31/08/2024 11:51

Petitchat · 31/08/2024 11:39

There needs to be sufficient accommodation for disabled people, but the tiny handful of women who suffer PTSD because a trans women or a gay person might be in the loo can easily be included. Unisex loos are also an option.

On the basis that trans women have been using women’s loos for decades and it appears that it’s gender critical people with “concerns” for others who are complaining now, it’s not actually an issue - it’s just people who have made transphobia their whole personality being transphobic.

There's no such thing as cis women, in my opinion.

There are:
Women
Men
