Now is the time to set out his vision for the UK, to inspire the UK towards harmony and productivity with a huge majority, which he will never have again. Instead there is a speech , presumably delayed by the riots, which continues to heap blame on the Tories. It was dour, depressing and offered no motivation to the public. There may be huge holes in the public finances and tough tax rises may be necessary, but he also needs to set out a grander plan for economic and societal prosperity. Why can he not do more ?

Agree, posts like that just get an eye roll
The ridiculous names are getting boring too 😁

My Tory MP’s at it on X now. It’s going down very badly with his constituents who expect him to have a degree of gravitas.

FreeGearKeir and his Clowns are a disgrace and traitors to the country.
They have done nothing but damage so far, constantly devising and rolling out ways to make people colder, poorer, less safe, voiceless, die earlier, retire later.

Nothing but damage? Do you think that, for instance, stopping Sunak's £40m private helicopter contract is nothing but damage? Putting a minister in charge of prisons who actually knows about prisons, and putting a scientist in charge of science? Stopping racist riots? Planning reforms that make building new homes easier?

What do you imagine the Tories were going to do if they had stayed in power? For sure it would have been more expensive government contracts and tax breaks for their friends, whilst taking away employment security and women's rights. And Sunak would probably have chartered another helicopter.

And implementing the legislation on buffer zones for abortion clinics.

Starmer has always been terrible in all his previous jobs. Not sure why it should be different now he's PM.

This statement requires evidence in order to be credible.

newnamethanks · 04/10/2024 11:43

He has always been terrible? Are you sure? Given the bizarre progress of Johnson that would appear to be a recommendation for the job.

Yes, he was useless as a DPP.

Ot a fan of Johnson either, but for me personally Starmer is much worse.

Time for a cup of tea without a doubt.

Source? Or just more hyperbolic mutterings from someone still sulking that Labour got in?

People who actually know about these things, including the Tory Attorney General at the time, say he was an excellent DPP. Outstanding, in fact.

ilovesooty · 04/10/2024 21:40

Grieve was a decent Tory. Of course Johnson got rid of the decent Tories.
