You have friends over for two nights — does the hoover get brought out at all?

Just that really.

Curious as I always whip the cordless around when we have people over. We have a dog who isn’t a shedder but her treats can be crumbly (she often moves from her bed where she should eat them). I like the house to feel fresh. I would probably flash mop the hard floors as well but only if friends are not up/out. Wouldn’t do it in front of them for some reason.

I will probably sound nuts but I genuinely get the cordless out 3/4 times a day. I do a ten min hoover in the morning (all floors) and then just whip out the Shark for 30 seconds or so when I see a mess throughout the day. I wfh.

I have a cheap little robot vacuum I bought during lock down. I use that a couple of times a day for the kitchen. I like a tidy house for guests.

IOnlyNeedTheSilence · 24/08/2024 12:16

Nope!

KnickerlessParsons · 24/08/2024 12:17

No

JuliesName · 24/08/2024 12:17

Not unless I see a mess that needs to be cleaned. 4 times a day is obsessive and honestly I'd be uncomfortable as your friend thinking i had to be completely careful not to drop a crumb.

BabaYetu · 24/08/2024 12:17

Once they are here, no.

Then again, the hoover only gets dragged out in a panicked frenzy when I remember someone is due to visit.

Housework is not my forte

Edingril · 24/08/2024 12:17

No chance, floors get done once a week

theduchessofspork · 24/08/2024 12:17

Well if there were crisps or crumbled dog treats on the floor then yes, if not no

3/4 hoovers a day must knacker your carpets

im not doing my normal routine when friends are over. Just do a quick run around with the cordless after the night before to restore order. And definitely not as thorough as I ordinarily would.

We have recently installed wood everywhere downstairs. Expensive but worth it:

Not whilst there unless there was a big mess made and it needed hoovering, I couldn't leave it
I'd do just before they arrive. Also mop!
I also hoover about 3/4 times a day. 🙈

betterangels · 24/08/2024 12:21

No. Four times a day to hoover? Life is too short...

But I’m not doing the entire floor. When I say 3/4 I am describing when the dog has eaten a flaky treat where she shouldn’t have. So I then just go grab the hoover and use it for literally less than a minute. Less faff than a dustpan and brush.

I do have OCD and do realise 4 times a day to some is excessive. But with 3 kids, sometimes always in and out, and I cannot stand walking on dirty floors (our downstairs is wooden flooring!) Isn't so bad with carpet when you can't see it as clear and as much. I wouldn't hoover upstairs 4 times a day as we're not up there as much, but still definitely once a day!

SquigglePigs · 24/08/2024 12:25

I'd go with very unlike to get it out however we have a young child and we have many young children amongst our friends so sometimes it's needed after dinner or a play doh session! We don't have a dog though.

Moonshiners · 24/08/2024 12:27

Absolutely not. If there was a little mess I would use the dustpan and brush

BaronessBomburst · 24/08/2024 12:28

We have tiled floors throughout so yes, I always grab the hoover for a quick once over or for spot cleaning. It's easier than a dust pan and brush.
There's always more crumbs with guests as we'll have a fresh loaf and people wander around with biscuits.

ComtesseDeSpair · 24/08/2024 12:28

Not unless something had been dropped / a mess made. But we don’t have children or pets and are a shoes off house, so things don’t really get dirty day to day. Getting the cordless out quickly to vacuum up visible crumbs or mess made by the dog, fine, understandable, but I’d probably rib a friend who started mopping the floors which had been mopped every day previously whilst they had guests, it’s a bit OTT.

Royalshyness · 24/08/2024 12:28

I’m a bit like you - whip it out after each meal and sometimes before bed before washing the floors

HotCrossBunplease · 24/08/2024 12:30

Our robot goes round the kitchen every night. I haven’t worked out how to set it for every two days!

lollyPaloozah · 24/08/2024 12:31

I hoover once every evening, and mop the floor every 2/3 days.
if there is a random spill I just use a dustpan and brush.

KnittedCardi · 24/08/2024 12:32

I do the floors once a week! Yes, if something is spilled/dropped it gets a sweep, dustpan and brush, but never the whole floor.

How does it get so dirty??????

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 24/08/2024 12:33

i think it fine as you are only spot hoovering a mess as it happens, you aren’t doing full top to bottom hoover that involves moving furniture.

I clean when friends are staying over for several days.

TheKeatingFive · 24/08/2024 12:33

lol no

BitOutOfPractice · 24/08/2024 12:34

I'd say your dog is getting too many treats if you need to hoover 4 times a day. Especially when you have guests over because you can bet your perma-hoovering makes them feel uncomfortable
