To be so fucking angry. How many more women and children must die?

I'd almost become numb to it, with all the news so far this year.

Murder after murder of women and their children. Noone ever seeming to link the common denominator. NAMALT.

This latest one today, I feel like something is beginning to snap inside me. Three babies and a young woman dead, because of a fucking man. Again. And again.

If the reports about scrapping single person council tax discount are true, that will very likely contribute towards the increase in VAWG. It's already hard for DV victims to survive financially if they leave due to the lack of social housing, unaffordable private rents, and punitive benefits system. Add in higher council tax (already costly) and no wonder many women can't leave.

It's all very well complaining about violent abusive men and saying they need to stop, but that won't stop VAWG. Nothing will ever completely stop it but practical and financial support would significantly reduce it.

@OlympicProcrastinator That story is really upsetting me. I am so sympathetic to this woman, but her statement is saying he was depressed but was a wonderful father. I had to bite my tongue when the men in my family were talking about how mentally disturbed the man in Stockport must be. Funny how this sort of violence seems to almost only ever happen to depressed, mentally unstable men.

The ven diagram of people who are super depressed and struggling and people who are terrible, harmful parents overlaps a lot when it comes to men. Funny that.

And the NAMALT has started up again.

The truth they dare not utter

I wonder what group of people creates the market for trafficked women and children? …

That's like saying "I wonder what she did to provoke him".

WotsYourExcuse · 04/09/2024 14:29

Also, given that a lot of women are trafficked as domestic slaves to rich households in places like Dubai, in many cases it's likely the wife that drives this decision.

I doubt the husband would argue if she insisted on doing all the household chores herself rather than outsourcing them.

I believe you are mistaken. It would not be consonant with his dignity for his wife to be doing housework.

Trafficking as domestic slaves is a terrible thing, but it doesn't mean they are being raped and murdered, although there will be a small number who are.

We are talking about violence rather than exploitation here. Modern slavery can have its own thread.

We'll no doubt get some convoluted nonsense about white middle class feminists and the plight of men who are at risk of violence.

Fair point. But in their accounts many of the formerly trafficked women claim they were most scared of the 'woman of the house'. This is also the case with a lot of female African slaves from the colonial era. This is just my experience from doing a lot of reading.

WotsYourExcuse · 04/09/2024 19:59

A lot of women seem to become fearful of the husband eyeing up the young slaves and take it out on them.

Tbf 99% of feminism on here is about 'the plight of women who are at risk of violence'.

Possibly because it's a space for women to communicate with each other about issues that matter to them.

Which is fair enough, but I'll never understand people that create a thread in AIBU and then get cranky when told they're being unreasonable.

Alucard55 · 04/09/2024 20:20

I didn't create a thread asking if I'm being unreasonable. Mainly because I know I'm not being unreasonable when I state that 98% of sexual violence is committed by men.

Nobody said you did. It's not all about you.

98% of sexual violence probably is committed by men but government data shows that only 3.5% of women are assaulted annually so it's a minority of men. It's still horrific but we need to focus on the perpetrators rather than waste our breath bashing all men and turning the average woman away.

Last study I read (study by feminist org Fawcett Society) found that only 7% of UK women identify as feminist despite 75% wanting 'equality'. Now that's one hell of an image problem! Maybe time for some self reflection unless you want to brand 93% of UK women as handmaidens lol.

As stated before I'm not coming at this from a feminist viewpoint. Women can identify as feminists or not that's not my business and it's certainly not my business to call anyone a handmaiden. I've never used the word to describe anyone in my life.

I feel you are purposely missing the point so we'll leave it at that.

WotsYourExcuse · 04/09/2024 23:33

OK, I will genuinely try and understand your point. I'm not denying 98% of sexual crimes are committed by men. I used to work in digital forensics. I've seen who commits sexual crimes and what's on their hard drives.

WotsYourExcuse · 04/09/2024 23:36

I just don't believe pointing fingers and endlessly repeating the same old figures is going anywhere. It's like we've stalled and have been stuck in the same place for at least a decade, and now even the majority of young women are tired of hearing this stuff. How do we actually make a difference? Certainly not by endlessly moaning about men IMO.

Read this. This astonishing woman is at the Paralympics.

No it’s like saying those who buy stolen cars create a market for stolen cars. You sound very confused.
