Labour Corruption?

Zebedee999 · 18/08/2024 21:10

Labour took donations from the unions pre-election and are now giving pay rises to those same union's members with limited or no negotiations. Is this corruption?

YABU = Not corruption
YANBU = Corruption of sorts

I think that even the real Zebedee probably had a better grasp than this on what constitutes 'corruption' in this country.

Actually, even Dylan did.

No

Oh steadfast then. Pity

Ok no answer on how many for unlimited I don't think any politician anywhere will offer what you're after.

Sure we accept about 60k on average per year via safe and legal routes, if you google

So how many do you need to increase that by for trafficking to stop?

It's people smuggling not trafficking.

LostittoBostik · 23/08/2024 12:45

You might want to look up the history of the Labour Party. It is the political wing of the union movement. It's not corruption; it's transparent and in their constitution. What is union money other than ordinary workers' subscriptions?

EasternStandard · 23/08/2024 12:59

cupcaske123 · 23/08/2024 12:44

It's people smuggling not trafficking.

'People smugglers' isn't a great way to describe the trafficking networks

There was a good piece on R4 talking about this from someone aware of the organisations involved. He talked about their layered organisation, recruitment and worth and viewed the term as giving the wrong impression.

pointythings · 23/08/2024 13:00

I don't think anyone has said they're in favour of unlimited safe routes, have they?

Human trafficking is where people are moved for the purposes of exploitation for example, prostitution or forced labour.

I'm aware of that definition, I still agree with the analysis on trafficking networks and using the more appropriate language to indicate their strength sophistication and worth

That's the legal definition. You can obviously call it what you want, you'd be wrong but you don't think much of the law anyway.

Nothing will beat the corruption of the Conservative and Union party since 2010.

HTH.

I think you'll find Tory corruption was nothing in comparison to what Labour will have lined up. They were already laying the path for this when prioritising public service jobs psy rises as soon as in office, when this wasn't the main concern of the electorate in the lead up to the GE. Reeves saying, 'oh but the Tories have left a big black hole in our money pot.' Cue, huge predicted tax hikes in October's budget, which will then be used to keep their bed chums the Unions happy. The pensioners are going to become targets again - taxing private pensions. Labour will be a one term party, but let's hope we still have a functioning economy by the time they leave in 4 years.

UK parliament serves for 5 years, not 4.

People voted for a party that would improve the NHS. Improving pay is part of that.

Let’s hope we have a functioning economy by 2029 because we definitely haven’t got one now.

I agree with the person who wrote a book on trafficking networks, If you are going to vote to try to get rid of them it's better you have an understanding of what they are.

Actually may have been more than one book. The point is it will cost. And his point was calling them 'people smugglers' is not a good indication of how sophisticated, embedded and hard to remove they are.

And that's now the UK taxpayer attempting that approach

I don't care who you were listening to on the radio. There's are legal definitions of human trafficking and people smuggling.

People paying to be smuggled consent and people who are trafficked are forced or tricked for the purposes of exploitation.

Human smuggling involves travelling internationally, trafficking can involve moving to cities or other areas in the same country. There are many differences.

And I don't care what your thoughts are on his language so all good. He makes a good point 'people smuggling' diminishes the reach and size or the multi billion organisations.

Trying to take out trafficking networks is an impossibility and we've just signed up to paying for it.

I know you don't care that numbers will go up, but I think it will be tough for Labour when they do.

If you want to wallow in ignorance, all good.

I didn't say that I don't care if the numbers go up, I said that we should stop interfering in other countries, allow for asylum to be applied for outside the UK and speed up the asylum process.

Ah again you make me laugh with repeated attempts to insult.

It's not working, you just sound so angry all the time Grin

Ok so you do care if numbers go up, you can join with others who will feel the same.

Labour won't do as you want and we'll see how people feel when removing trafficking networks fails

Again, I'm glad you're so easily amused. Life must be a pleasure.

Tackling smuggling networks is one solution amongst many. Perhaps we should wait and see what the government comes up with before crowing.

Yep life is great, I haven't indicated otherwise. I still find your angry insults amusing and incorrect.

At least you can see Labour haven't put anything forward that will work, you are waiting to see if they will.

That is not unlimited, that is not being able to put a number on how many asylum seekers and refugees the UK can grant protection to.

Should I assume that your number is closer to zero?

They've only been in power for a few weeks. I'm saying, let's wait and see.
