Labour Corruption?

Zebedee999 · 18/08/2024 21:10

Labour took donations from the unions pre-election and are now giving pay rises to those same union's members with limited or no negotiations. Is this corruption?

YABU = Not corruption
YANBU = Corruption of sorts

Nothing will beat the corruption of the Conservative and Union party since 2010.

HTH.

ProfessorPeppy · 18/08/2024 21:22

YABU

Unions have always donated to Labour, and it's completely transparent, as outlined via this UK Parliament page:

publications.parliament.uk/pa/ld201516/ldselect/ldtupf/106/10613.htm

BIWI · 18/08/2024 21:23

The trade unions have always been big donors to the Labour Party. Which really isn't surprising if you think about it!

But it's unfair to say that there haven't been negotiations about the pay settlements. Or that there won't be in the future.

Nothing to do with corruption.

(But sounds like this is - yet another- post from Tory HQ. Let it go!)

Bannedontherun · 18/08/2024 21:23

This has to be a goady post. If not then just plain laughable.

So the Labour Party (named as such, meaning representing the interests of workers) receives donations from unions who represent various sections of said workers. Secure better pay deals for the workers, they represent, (not the actual union leaders receiving any benefit). How is that corrupt?

Whereas the Tories receive donations from various employer lobby groups, and big business who have only self interest and no wider interest in society or its constituents, are not corrupt.

😂

ProfessorPeppy · 18/08/2024 21:25

Additionally, these pay rises are long overdue, because public sector pay was cut over a 14 year period by the previous government.

The Welsh First Minister accepted a huge payment from a firm being investigated for Environmental fraud.

Its called democracy - we are many.

Also, really boosts the GDP if that's your way of understanding the world.

Izzymoon · 18/08/2024 21:29

You have an issue with public sector pay rises but not all the uncompetitive tendering that went on under the tories linked to standing MPs or donors?

And was promptly forced out so is no longer First Minister.

Pay rises to workers many of whom have had their pay frozen for years. I suppose you live on fresh air?

mellongoose · 18/08/2024 21:33

Definitely one rule for Labour and another for anyone else.

Offcom · 18/08/2024 21:33

OMG pay rises for workers, from the Labour Party, what an outrage. Next thing we know they’ll be suggesting we tax the rich

That’s not answering the question.

user1471453601 · 18/08/2024 21:34

Labour Ministers have been very clear. There is a price to pay for strikes, and there is a price to pay for settlement. The Tory government prefer the price of not settling. Labour prefer the price of settling.

Zebedee999 · 18/08/2024 21:35

My simple question seems to have triggered many here. Some justify Labour corruption because the Tories were worse. I don't support corruption from anyone.

lol ! I CBA to look up your user name but were you there for the Tory corruption. Boris and his £800 wallpaper. The Covid PPe contracts.

It’s not corruption though, if it was no party would be allowed to raise funds in any capacity.

They dont seem triggered at all , they've simply explained to you why public sector pay rises are not even remotely similar to corruption.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 18/08/2024 21:37

😂😂

Do you know anything about the history of the Labour Party?

Firenzeflower · 18/08/2024 21:38

Don't be ridiculous.

BIWI · 18/08/2024 21:38

I think you need to look up the definition of corruption @Zebedee999

You literally asked people to say if they thought this was corruption or not and many appear to think not.

Not sure what you were expecting from an AIBU vote if it wasn't a vote on whether or not you are BU.

FWIW trying to label this as corruption feels like trying to jam a round peg into a square hole.

Labour
A) always get donations from
Unions and
B) were handed a situation where groups of workers had been striking and causing problems for months (years) and were determined to bring them to an end. Doing so was always going to require paying up to some degree.

They appear to have solved the strikes. Hurrah.

"Simple" being the operative word.
