JKR being uncharacteristically quiet

1000 replies

Jdugsgsgwyd · 17/08/2024 14:42

Anyone else noticed since the news that JKR is being sued by Imane Khelif she's been very quiet, unless I'm mistaken she's hasn't tweeted at all in about a week.

and hasn't responded at all to the legal action being taken against her. This is very unlike her, I'm thinking she's been advised by her lawyers to keep quiet. Anyone else think she might have put her foot in it this time?

So you think there's a genuine discussion to be had about biological males in women's sport but you're criticising a high profile woman for having that discussion?

i do think there is a discussion to be had certainly. It's obviously a problem that needs to be addressed.

I also am criticising the way JK spoke about Imane. I think she said that imane was smirking and taking pleasure in committing violence against women? (Excuse me if that's not the exact wording but I believe it was along those lines)

none of those comments help the issue, they're frankly nasty and casting aspersions on imane's character which I think is really unfair. Also her silence about the known child rapist in the Olympics, I think it's fair to be critical of her silence on this issue when she went so hard after IK. (And if you're going to come at me with the "she can't comment on every bad man" I have already addressed that in a previous comment.

it's possible to think there is a civil conversation to be had whilst also disagreeing with JK

I will never get used to some of the awful stuff I hear people say on these issues. It’s truly devastating.

If you find clear expression of reality 'devastating' take it up with Mother Nature:

To be fair, she has gone after trans people online.

one example of the top of my head (and I can't remember names) but there was a football coach who transitioned from male to trans woman. There was a news article basically just saying this person was the new football coach and JKR made a tweet basically denying this person was trans and is a man etc. that I would class as bullying, there was no need for it, she wasn't protecting women or girls, there was no threat, this person just got a job and JKR felt the need to go after them online. That wasn't using her voice for good, idk what to call it other than needless cruelty.

I said find me an example of ‘hounding’ a trans man. Trans men are female.

She didn’t ‘hound’ the coach. She said he was a straight white middle aged bloke. Which he is.

Are you going to show the same disdain for him, who had been bullying JKR on Twitter prior? But because he’s trans it’s ok?

I will never get used to the awful way that women’s sport is being invaded by people who aren’t women. It’s truly devastating.

I can’t understand why there is no sympathy for the woman who should have won the gold that IK took? Or the woman’s place in the competition he took?

FlirtsWithRhinos · 18/08/2024 17:55

Igmum · 18/08/2024 17:18

The football coach our resident TRA OP is referring to is the same football coach who targeted JKR repeatedly in his tweets and did a television interview warning 'TERFs' to be careful what they said.

Definitely a poor vulnerable person who needed protection.

The fact that although the posters arguing against JKR on this thread, and more widely arguing the genderist perspective on MN are various, they all fall back to the same small handful of points and examples (eg "Micheal Phelps!" "Sawyers syndrome!" "That one XY person in 4.1 billion who ovulated and gave birth!" "The football referee!") is a dead giveaway they aren't looking at a variety of sources and thinking their positions through, they are just repeating what they have read from Genderist echo chambers on Reddit / twitter / medium etc.

That makes him a TIM.

to be clear this has nothing to do with any kind of reality.

Anyway I shall not be getting dragged into this absurdity. Along the lines of a pp , I won’t be playing the gender critical “reality” games this evening.

To be fair I don't know 'who started it' etc and no of course bullying from either side is not acceptable. I don't particularly like JKR but the death threats, rape threats etc she gets are disgusting and absolutely unacceptable. No one should be spoken to like that

I was speaking in the context of replying to a post which basically said JK doesn't go after trans people she only stands up for women's rights, so that's why I was pointing out this example as to me it doesn't come across as standing up for women's rights more just ragging on someone for being trans.

Good. She should employ her millions usefully and do the actual research before talking about things she - and many posters on here - know(s) screw all about.

And again, it’s men. Men she ‘goes after’. Not
trans. It absolutely baffles me that people have a problem with this and can’t understand it.

Your ragging on is my ‘hold men to account’. Quite frankly she was verging on kind calling a straight white middle aged bloke a straight white middle aged bloke after the abuse she got off him.

Please show me where she’s gone after (not my choice of words) a trans man.

Remember how GCs usually tell us discussion about DSDs has no place in discussions about trans issues?

Now any person assigned female at birth with XY male pattern chromosomes must inevitably be trans? The only escape is ignorance of her own body? Since if she learns of her chromosomes, she must either transition, or… she’s becomes transgender by default! (or trans-identified as y’all like to call it)! 😱

Top prize for extraordinary new heights in GC transphobic and endosexist logic.

I don't know if she has commented on trans men, nothing comes to mind, it does seem to be trans women she focuses on

which therein lies the issue that always comes up on mumsnet of wether you believe trans people exist or not. I don't suppose that's a debate worth having tbh 🤣

Does it come up on MN? Really? Has anyone said they don’t? I don’t believe JKR has said this either. What most say is that transwomen aren’t actual women. Because they aren’t. Not that they don’t exist.

Yeh, like almost all transphobes she comes after / bullies trans women, while dismissing and ignoring trans men. This is because transphobia is rooted in misogyny x

I’ve responded elsewhere on the thread too. No tripping up here. Just accurately quoting and responding.

wincarwoo · 18/08/2024 18:25

@Jdugsgsgwyd I think the more nuanced point is that the argument used by TRAs that trans identifying men are the the most oppressed minority is clearly rubbish.

In the case of the Olympics she of course has concerns about men potentially taking part in women’s sports. Funnily enough, it seems vanishingly rare to have women taking part in men’s sports. As there’d be no advantage. And also no abuse of power.

wincarwoo · 18/08/2024 18:26

@tandora interesting that men aren't bothered so much by women in their spaces isn't it. Why is that do you think?

TheKeatingFive · 18/08/2024 18:22

I think trans women are valid, and that if they want to transition and live as a woman, be called by a female name and use female pronouns then go for it, I'd never deliberately call them by male pronouns if they were a trans woman

but on a biological level no, if someone is born male then no that can't be physically changed. Obviously people can have surgery to create vaginas and have breast implants but on a cellular level they will remain male

I don't think that's quite true. Men's clubs were a thing for many many years. No women allowed.

It must be because men aren't as transphobic as women. [/s]
