It's been in the news today. Monkey Pox or M pox is spreading they have found a case in Sweden now and hinted it could spread more.
Anyone worried or is it scare mongering.

It seems to be in the news again?😪

What is the fatality rate and R number?

Oh god I forgot about R numbers

Dabralor · 15/08/2024 22:57

There is a vaccine.
It is being tracked by WHO.
We've learned a lot from COVID about how to mitigate the spread of disease.

I'm going to put my faith in the clever people who understand these things and vote No - I'm not worried for now. But devastated for all those poor children and their families.

No. From NHS website:

”Mpox is usually mild and most people recover within a few weeks without treatment”.

Thankyou my health anxiety can't handle stuff like this so rational people help ❤️

BlueberryPancake123 · 15/08/2024 23:11

I am a little worried yes but it's because of personal circumstances. I work in a school where many children will have been to African countries during the summer, and DH has leukaemia. I think the new strand is easier to transmit, and the NHS guidance is outdated - new guidelines should come in soon before school starts in September but I will keep a close eye on this.

AlleycatMarie · 15/08/2024 23:11

It won’t spread like covid, as it’s not as easily caught. I’m not worried after reading about it.

Comedycook · 15/08/2024 22:49

You tell em 😂

You have to tell them via forums because they can’t read your mind when you have foil caps on.

Arrivapercy · 15/08/2024 23:16

I'm not worried about it at all.

fliptopbin · 15/08/2024 23:20

Also, bear in mind that death tolls in Congo, in cramped conditions with no vaccines or treatment should not be extrapolated to death tolls in the west.

flymetoalphacentauri · 15/08/2024 23:23

I think bird flu is more of a concern.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 15/08/2024 23:25

At least we have a decent government that gives a shit about people this time.

namechangeforthisi · 15/08/2024 23:25

Is everyone not already basically still in lockdown ?

namechangeforthisi · 15/08/2024 23:26

I don't know anyone who goes out to work now

Putthefanon · 15/08/2024 23:28

namechangeforthisi · 15/08/2024 23:26

I don't know anyone who goes out to work now

Nurses, police, people who work in Tesco, train drivers, me (three times a week to the office), bin men, cleaners……

Well, apart from the pensioners

FriedEggs1 · 15/08/2024 23:31

NO

BonnieBonnieBanks · 15/08/2024 23:33

Not yet…

TooBigForMyBoots · 15/08/2024 23:34

I'm not. But YANBU to be worried yourself@girlfriend44 .Thanks

AnnaMagnani · 15/08/2024 23:43

No because I'm not an immunosuppressed gay man which was basically who got it a few years ago.

And because we have better healthcare and housing than a camp in DRC.

Trixiefirecracker · 15/08/2024 23:45

Mespher · 15/08/2024 23:31

Well, apart from the pensioners

I work in a restaurant where the clientele are almost exclusively pensioners. Feels like they are the only people with money these days. I think they’ll survive.

NAndJIsLockingDown · 15/08/2024 23:51

Yep. We warned you that Covid was just the very start.

Sweden needs to go into full Lockdown immediately. Our government needs to start shutting down international travel and introducing protections, though I wouldn't trust Sir Starmer to organise a piss up in a brewery.

For our DC's sake, please get the masks out again. And we're going to need gloves this time too.

Suhbataar · 15/08/2024 23:51

Somewhat. But not like I was with COVID. That was a novel virus with no vaccine and no cure. And symptoms similar to the common cold in many people, facilitating it's spread

This new strain of mpox looks potentially worse than covid in terms of fatalities and similar in contagiousness. But vaccines already exist that are at least partially effective. And some fairly simple measures should reduce transmission.

Hopefully the WHO statement will kick governments into action and stop it in it's tracks.

sleepwouldbenice · 15/08/2024 23:53

TheHouseElf · 15/08/2024 22:39

Absolutely not, and I won't comply with any stupid lockdown measures if any Government stooges are watching this forum either. I am fully done with virus outbreaks thanks.

Natural selection

Whelm · 15/08/2024 23:54

Trigger warning

Men who are having unsafe sex with men, children and animals seem to be the biggest risk. Those able to steer clear of those men should be fine.

MayonnaiseOnMyChips · 15/08/2024 23:54

Really worried we need to lockdown now 😷
