It's been in the news today. Monkey Pox or M pox is spreading they have found a case in Sweden now and hinted it could spread more.
Anyone worried or is it scare mongering.

It seems to be in the news again?😪

You were saying the exact same thing in Feb 2020. How did that turn out?

Didn't you get banned for the ridiculous doom mongering? And yet here you are again. 😵‍💫

Beezknees · 17/08/2024 20:57

I remember them too, it's just pathetic that they haven't got bored yet.

Well yes .

Nope, very little reason to worry, the media love a scare story. From the NHS website:

Anyone else worried about M pox?
floatingislands · 17/08/2024 23:17

^That is for the previous form of Mpox. This is a new one.

Mindfulmeltdowns · 17/08/2024 23:18

Someone was saying upthread that the NHS mpox info hasn't been updated to reflect the new strain yet.

That's an older page.

Yep. We warned you that Covid was just the very start.

Sweden needs to go into full Lockdown immediately. Our government needs to start shutting down international travel and introducing protections, though I wouldn't trust Sir Starmer to organise a piss up in a brewery.

For our DC's sake, please get the masks out again. And we're going to need gloves this time too.

Oh dear.

There are lots of diseases out there that are killing people. That's never going to stop.
It's sensible to be cautious when something new appears while scientists gather data and figure out whether it's going to wipe out two thirds of the global population or end up being a bad case of the sniffles but the world cannot go into lockdown forever.

We can't stop people dying. I understand that lack of control and fear of death are at the heart of pandemic panics but we have to accept that there will always be diseases that will kill some people. It's inevitable. Any of us could catch something and die. That's scary but reducing your world to nothing and demanding the rest of the population does the same for fear of catching something that may kill you but statistically speaking probably won't is a kind of death in itself.

People sneer about scaremongering but really all scaremongering is is people who are scared making themselves more scared by obsessing about finding a way to control things that they have no realistic control over.

Congratulations....you've cured anxiety!

Surely the definition of anxiety is the inability (for whatever reason) to realise this simple fact?

How is your 12 year old even aware of this

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 20/08/2024 19:31

Yes. It seems like a disfiguring disease if you get it?

With this attitude, what's the likelihood you're relatively young and physically healthy?

🤣🤣🤣🤣. I wish.

I'm 50.

I have heart failure, stage 3 kidney disease and copd. I'm diabetic. I'm asthmatic. I have pcos. (I'm also autistic and I have mhp and have been sectioned before and suicidal too).

I currently take amitriptyline, metformin, diazapam, atorvastatin, jardiance, fostair, salamol, furosemide, duloxetine, losartin and rybelsus.

I have completed a respect form with my GP and I have a DNR in place.

I was dx with hf 3 years ago.

I've got a chance of making it another few years but realistically I'm not going to live to see 60.

We all die in the end. Some of us sooner than others.

Life is for living. Not for hiding away.

Ah right. So you're expecting to die soon so pandemics aren't a big deal to you.

Can you see how others might find your attitude incredibly selfish?
