Need urgent advice to lose weight quickly- bridesmaid dress doesn’t fit!

I’m due to be bridesmaid for a good friend next Saturday. She’s just been round to drop my dress off, and I tried it on while she was here- we couldn’t get it done up!

I’m 5’ 5.5” and according to my scales I weigh 64.7kgs, or 10 stone 2lbs and 10oz. My clothes are mostly a size 10. So I’m not exactly big- I’ve got a 9mo baby that is still breastfed but I’ve just checked and back in February when the dresses were first ordered (and I was weighing myself regularly to see if the baby weight was coming off) I was 62kgs!! But I don’t weigh myself that often now as I tend to just go by how my clothes fit, and whilst some things are a little on the tight side atm there’s nothing that I can’t get into.

My friend has taken the dress home to see if she can get it altered to let it out a little bit, but we had a look and there isn’t really any extra fabric to play with and the style of it means that it would be quite complicated to make any big adjustments to. So basically I’ve got a week to lose enough weight to fit into this dress.

Help!!

Hi OP. Get walking? 20,000 steps a day. Sleep lots, diet. Good luck!

ThankTheLord · 10/08/2024 12:08

Also, Any special underwear you can to pull everything in? 😁

ChewChewsBiscuitTin · 10/08/2024 12:10

Best quick weight loss I ever did was a week of protein shakes and juice. There are ready made ones you can get delivered. The one I did I think is called Exault but there are loads to chose from, just Google juice cleanse and take your pick

CoastalCalm · 10/08/2024 12:11

Well you’re breastfeeding so any very low calorie dieting seems out the window so I would try to exercise and increase diuretic foods to encourage any surplus water out

Comedycook · 10/08/2024 12:11

I'd do intermittent fasting and low carb...but if you're bf I wouldn't go on a drastic diet. I'd buy a new dress!

Ha, sleep lots isn’t an option, I’ve got 3 DC 4 and under!

Are there other bridesmaids...are the dresses matching? Or is it just you and a different dress wouldn't look out of place

Gettingannoyednow · 10/08/2024 12:13

Stop wheat, dairy, caffeine, sugar and alcohol. Good luck.

romdowa · 10/08/2024 12:14

Could you replace the zip with a corset? 2kg in a week isn't impossible but its not going to be easy with small kids

They’re all the same fabric/colour, and have to be ordered in advance so I can’t just get a different one.

I really don't think any crash diet where you could potentially lose 2-3kg in a week is a good idea while breastfeeding.

Really good idea!

It zips up the side (one of those horrid pinchy invisible zips) so a corset fastening wouldn’t really work.

Any crash diet while you're breastfeeding doesn't seem like a good idea OP 😬

nfkl · 10/08/2024 12:19

Invest in faja/Skims/Spanx/waist shaper/etc.
Wear two pairs on top of each other.

bzarda · 10/08/2024 12:19

I lost 3kg in a week breastfeeding when both my baby and I had norovirus - water and dry toast and some soup. Really grim so if you do have the option of altering it or buying a new dress I would try that instead!

theduchessofspork · 10/08/2024 12:19

get a dress maker to put a panel in the back.

If you weren’t breastfeeding then crash diet and go sit in a sauna - but that isn’t going to be realistic for you.

whatthehellnpw · 10/08/2024 12:19

Could the back be altered into a corset anyway. Keep the zip on the side but add a corset?

LegoTherapy · 10/08/2024 12:23

Is there another bridesmaid whose dress is on the bigger side you could swap with? Your weight might be distributed differently than it was at 62kg. 2kg in one week is a lot to lose and if your body shape has changed slightly you might not get in it even if you do lose the weight. Adjustments or seeing if another bridesmaids dress fits you better and she gets in yours seems your best bet. A seamstress might be able to insert some fabric if there's none to let out.
I have a dress I bought before having ds. I weigh less now than I did when I bought the dress but it doesn't fit on the chest because my shape changed with all the breastfeeding.
Good luck!

MagneticSquirrel · 10/08/2024 12:23

Reduce calories, but make sure you are getting enough protein so lose fat rather than muscle. If you have little ones I would assume you are fairly active lifting them, walking/running around all day anyway. You could lose 1kg in a week ok, 2kg will be muscle / water rather than fat.

And get some very good shapewear, eg bodysuit style would probably be enough to pull you in enough to zip up the dress, you can get ones that you can still wear your own bra with if you are breastfeeding. Eg www.marksandspencer.com/sheer-striped-firm-control-non-padded-body/p/clp60285043?intid=mobile_app_pdp_share

Thane · 10/08/2024 12:24

I bet it is bloat / water weight. Are you due on your period?
Anyway - combat this by going low carb. Eat no bread, pasta or sugary foods or alcohol for a week. The weight (retained water) will fall off you. You might lose as much as 4lb of just water in a week! You can definitley do this!

thenightsky · 10/08/2024 12:24

I had surgery last month and couldn't walk for a week. I lost 5lb in one week purely by being unable to get into the kitchen or stand at the cooker/fridge. No alcohol coz I was on blood thinners and not a single snack or nibble outside lunch or dinner times.

Dinosweetpea · 10/08/2024 12:24

I was bridesmaid when 4m pregnant so just wore a different dress in the same colour. I'd have a back up option as will be tricky if BF to make too many changes to diet.

romdowa · 10/08/2024 12:24

AngeloMysterioso · 10/08/2024 12:17

It zips up the side (one of those horrid pinchy invisible zips) so a corset fastening wouldn’t really work.

A good seamstress could close that up and create a corset in the back. Or even just leave the side zip and just add the corset.

HeyTalkToMeGoose · 10/08/2024 12:26

Where would spare matching material come from to create a corset?
