Need urgent advice to lose weight quickly- bridesmaid dress doesn’t fit!

I’m due to be bridesmaid for a good friend next Saturday. She’s just been round to drop my dress off, and I tried it on while she was here- we couldn’t get it done up!

I’m 5’ 5.5” and according to my scales I weigh 64.7kgs, or 10 stone 2lbs and 10oz. My clothes are mostly a size 10. So I’m not exactly big- I’ve got a 9mo baby that is still breastfed but I’ve just checked and back in February when the dresses were first ordered (and I was weighing myself regularly to see if the baby weight was coming off) I was 62kgs!! But I don’t weigh myself that often now as I tend to just go by how my clothes fit, and whilst some things are a little on the tight side atm there’s nothing that I can’t get into.

My friend has taken the dress home to see if she can get it altered to let it out a little bit, but we had a look and there isn’t really any extra fabric to play with and the style of it means that it would be quite complicated to make any big adjustments to. So basically I’ve got a week to lose enough weight to fit into this dress.

Help!!

Slimfast Keto shakes as a meal replacement and just some chicken when you're hungry. A very good multi vitamin, plenty of water, magnesium supplements and salt. Will you struggle to stick to it if you've never gone keto before? Absolutely. Will it work as a good, fast weight loss strategy to fit you into that dress whilst still giving you all the nutrition you need over that short time? Also yes.

Where would spare matching material come from to create a corset?

Maybe lace it with a wide ribbon to match the dress? If you wear flesh toned shape wear under it you won’t notice any underwear ?

Mongrelsrbeautiful · 12/08/2024 15:37

I wouldn't worry too much about the breastfeeding - you and baby should be fine, assuming baby is eating well now, and drinking water. Cutting down for a week isn't going to cause huge problems.

She's got a plan to alter the dress now but the suggestions to go on some ridiculous fad diet are still coming. It's pretty sickening how ingrained harmful diet culture is that she's had so many suggestions that could actually make her ill or affect her milk supply - just so she can fit into a dress.

Why is her health and that of her baby less important than losing weight?

PoppysAunt · 12/08/2024 16:24

@Sitdownrosa my feelings exactly. Some of the suggestions are utterly ridiculous, some are actually harmful.
She's getting the dress altered, a wise solution.

I was one of the few just saying give up and get a different dress or go as a guest, however, I wouldnt call it 'diet culture' at all, it would have been (if she had done it) a very short term fix to achieve a particular thing

Just like if you have certain operations you have to go on a particular diet prior, or if you're a jockey or boxer or whatever.

She wasnt doing it because she wants to lose weight for the sake of it, just because. She was doing it to fit ito a dress that no doubt lots of planning had gone into (albeit badly in my view).

The harmful diet culture bit was the overwhelming amount of responses telling her to go on some mad crash diet, instead of doing the healthy option of getting the dress made bigger and/or wearing shapewear.

Losing weight in a healthy and sustainable way is fine. Telling a breastfeeding woman to crash diet to fit into a dress is harmful diet culture. Losing weight to fit into a dress is absolutely nothing like doing it because of an operation - bit worrying that you don't see that.

Good luck on Friday. I'm sure it'll be OK.

I'm 5'4" and 10s 2 lb and I'm a size 14/16, how are you a size 10?

Different body composition, the same weight in muscle takes up less space than fat. Could also be bone density, again doesn’t increase body size but will increase weight. It’s very possible to be a size 10 (or smaller) at just over 10st.

Absolutely. I'm just over 5ft2, when I'm around 10 stone, I'm a small size 12 or large 10 depending on the shop. Post pregnancy years I have been over 13 stone near 14 for a brief while and I was still never larger than the bigger end of a 14. I'm just quite dense apparently.

Was the wedding yesterday? How did it all work out with the dress? Hope you had a lovely time!

alrightluv · 18/08/2024 18:10

@AngeloMysterioso hope it went well?

AngeloMysterioso · 19/08/2024 10:39

It went well, thanks! Figuring out what to do with the dress was a bit of a faff, but we made it work- Aunt had got some sheer nude fabric and basically took the entire bodice of the dress apart and stitched some panels in that went down to the waist band in a sort of V-shape… I’m not describing it very well but she did it in such a way that it just looked like that was the design of the dress. We didn’t manage to get it finished until very late the night before so I was pretty knackered on the day, but was a huge relief!
