Need urgent advice to lose weight quickly- bridesmaid dress doesn’t fit!

AngeloMysterioso · 10/08/2024 12:04

I’m due to be bridesmaid for a good friend next Saturday. She’s just been round to drop my dress off, and I tried it on while she was here- we couldn’t get it done up!

I’m 5’ 5.5” and according to my scales I weigh 64.7kgs, or 10 stone 2lbs and 10oz. My clothes are mostly a size 10. So I’m not exactly big- I’ve got a 9mo baby that is still breastfed but I’ve just checked and back in February when the dresses were first ordered (and I was weighing myself regularly to see if the baby weight was coming off) I was 62kgs!! But I don’t weigh myself that often now as I tend to just go by how my clothes fit, and whilst some things are a little on the tight side atm there’s nothing that I can’t get into.

My friend has taken the dress home to see if she can get it altered to let it out a little bit, but we had a look and there isn’t really any extra fabric to play with and the style of it means that it would be quite complicated to make any big adjustments to. So basically I’ve got a week to lose enough weight to fit into this dress.

Help!!

Also eating"gluten free" foods doesn't mean that you lose weight!

No it doesn’t but it can help reduce bloating and is easier for the digestive system to process. Have you never heard of ‘wheat belly’. Better to try that than go ultra low carb for a short term fix which will likely make you light-headed especially when bfing.

daisychain01 · 10/08/2024 13:55

You need to stop taking advice on how to starve yourself and jeopardise your comfort and health just to squeeze into a dress in 7 days' time. Ridiculous even if you weren't bf, but more so while you are.

dbeuowlxb173939 · 10/08/2024 13:55

Best way I have done this is a smoothie and soup diet, salad or green veg to fill you up, and lots of water, no caffeine.
Not really recommended while you're breastfeeding but your baby is 9 months so should be fine for just a week crash diet!
Also a very good pair of Spanx

ItsVeryHyacinthBucket · 10/08/2024 13:55

Id Do 7 days of Joe wicks 90 day plan - basically small portion high protein low carb with 3l of water a day and 5 HIIT sessions, 8-12k steps a day, hope for the best!

How about a body wrap to lose inches rather than weight?

BettyBardMacDonald · 10/08/2024 13:57

At this point I would just bow out of being a bridesmaid. She'll still have three, and you can buy a nice normal dress that fits and still support her on her wedding day.

Less stressful all around.

Moonshine5 · 10/08/2024 13:57

Wear a white insert where the zip should close then do the zip as high as you can and pin the the fabric of the dress on the insert. You can buy them on Amazon.

Miley1967 · 10/08/2024 13:58

Why has your friend left it so late in the day for a fitting, people's weight is really likely to change in six months. I would do intermittent fasting and low carb. I lost a lot in my first week of doing this but then I do have a lot to lose, so may be very different for you. I hope you find a solution.

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 10/08/2024 13:58

You can get those weight loss body wraps, my friend lost around 6lbs doing this but not sure how much they are.

Some weeks I have lost 4lbs on a very low carb high protein diet, 3 X gym per week and walking absolutely as much as I can. Was a struggle with 2DC though x

It's a link to a insert for your dress

You aren’t going to lose 2.7kg in a week regardless of what you do, so another solution needs to be found!

I would look into corset style underwear or a body suit to cinch you in. Definitely also worth speaking to a tailor, they will have a lot of experience with these situations and might have creative solutions.

Fluufer · 10/08/2024 14:01

Have you tried it with some mega shapewear? You won't be able to drop much fat in a week really, especially as you're not big to start with so I wouldn't bother crash dieting personally.

SweetAmber · 10/08/2024 14:02

A dressmaker could sew panels down the sides

Foreversad40 · 10/08/2024 14:04

This happened to my family member. She had put quite a bit of weight on before her friends wedding. Ended up they got a seamstress to put in 2 panels of fabric in a similar colour but with a slight pattern, along both sides of her body (under where her arms were for most of the day so slightly disguised). Although you could see it, if you didn’t know the reason you would have just thought it was part of the dress design.

ballershotcallerr · 10/08/2024 14:04

Beg on Facebook for a seamstress. You can't crash diet while breastfeeding. Well you can but you really shouldn't and it likely wouldn't work. You need a panel put in pronto.

TerrorAustralis · 10/08/2024 14:06

Atkins style diet plus mild laxatives (just because starting Atkins can be constipating). Basically very low carb vegetables, plus protein (meat and eggs) and a bit of fast. You’ll lose 2+ kilos but half will be water weight because of the low carbs,

alldayeveryday247 · 10/08/2024 14:07

@EI12

From an ex figure skater, furosemide, but don't overdo it as you will damage your health irreparably with it. Go see your GP, explain and try to get a prescription.

You think a responsible GP (or even a crap one, tbh) will prescribe a diuretic for someone to fit into a bridesmaid dress? Let alone a patient who is breastfeeding! Madness.

OrlandointheWilderness · 10/08/2024 14:10

How far out is it in inches?!

WhySoManySocks · 10/08/2024 14:11

You can’t lose 3kg in a week.

Also you’re breastfeeding so don’t do anything stupid.

I’d look for good shapewear, or a new dress.

Lampzade · 10/08/2024 14:12

Op, has said that the dresses are different styles, so she could definitely get a decent seamstress to add some side panels.

keepcrackingon · 10/08/2024 14:13

I had this problem when I tried on a smart dress 48hrs before an event. Trawled Amazon in desperation and could not believe how effective a Yiannas Fajas Colombianas shapewear bodysuit was - uncomfortable to cram into, but it got me into the dress for the night.

She needs to get the dress adjusted

Peridot1 · 10/08/2024 14:16

If the dresses are different styles anyway can you not just order something new in the right colour?

ASOS do bridesmaids dresses I think.

BobbyBiscuits · 10/08/2024 14:18

I'd try and radically cut out carbs and sugar. And alcohol if you do drink.
Running, outdoor gym, going up and down stairs? Workouts on tiktok or YouTube or whatever whenever you've a spare few mins?
Also some shape wear/skims type thing could do wonders. If you've got junk food in the house take it down the food bank donation or give away to a friend. It's only for a week so just think of the nice things you can have afterwards!

FrangipaniBlue · 10/08/2024 14:23

As others have said stay away from carbs and sugar, only eat proteins and good fats like eggs, avocado and full fat Greek yoghurt.

Stay away from caffeine and alcohol and drink lots of water.

DO NOT start exercising more, this is a terrible suggestion!!! You will get inflammation!!

Sauna if you can find one a couple of times over the next week.

Also, find a beauty salon that does genie little black dress or the inch loss wrap treatments - book in for the day before the wedding.

and please don't starve yourself.

I think if you did all of the above plus shape wear you might be ok, but as some posters have said, by how much would the zip not close??
