Or are they just greedy bastards?

Made a bolognaise pasta sauce type thing with 1 kg of minced beef steak.
Onions, peppers and mushrooms added.
Have come home from work and DH and DS 18 have polished the bloody lot off leaving me with a measly ladle full of sauce
( pasta was cooked separately for clarification)
They are most of that too
Twats

This is precisely the kind of incident that leads me to "hide" half my batch-cooking either in a different container in the fridge or straight into the freezer.
You are not unreasonable to be furious, but learn from this and outsmart the greedy pigs next time.

Shouldn't have to outsmart family members for meals 😆they should learn some consideration for others!

Deadbeatex · 08/08/2024 18:15

Not only are they greedy bastards but you are ALL in the wrong cos eugh mushrooms lol out of interest so I can decide how much to be annoyed at them on your behalf, the amount they left, you do say in an update that it was the correct portion size for you and that you are more annoyed that its the fact you batch cooked and it's turned into 1 days meals. Did they leave that amount as they knew it was the correct portion size for you or was it more of an "oh shit we better leave some or we'll be in trouble for eating it all" as the pan slowly (quickly!) emptied and they realised in the nick of time and are now puzzled as to why you are so mad cos they were heroes who were very considerate and didn't eat it ALL?

Loving the freezing of the wraps as petty revenge BTW 😂

EI12 · 08/08/2024 18:15

I would be delighted if mine did that. I always over-cook and chuck whatever is left for the fox. We have a visiting fox. (Rural area). I don't chuck fillet steak, salmon steaks, etc. But spagbol, for goodness sake, you are so mean!

TomatoSandwiches · 08/08/2024 18:15

That's disgusting, I would be so ashamed of them
They left you just enough whilst taking at least 2 - 3 people's portions for themselves, they didn't make the dinner and didn't even leave you a good amount like they had ( which they would have if they thought of you ).

They aren't just greedy, they're selfish and entitled bastards.

I wouldn't cook for them again.

MadCatandBirdLady · 08/08/2024 18:15

How does 500g of mince make 12 portions?

TomatoSandwiches · 08/08/2024 18:16

It's always men doing this as well, taking exactly the amount they want and fuck everyone else.

They're like animals.

snackatack · 08/08/2024 18:16

Projectme · 08/08/2024 17:49

Exactly my thoughts 😉🤣

the person saying 500g - for 6 people - for 2 meals - no...

1kg - should do 6 meals (more if you pack it with beans and lentils)

TomatoSandwiches · 08/08/2024 18:17

500g mince with 300g green lentils and sofrito does 4 decent portions in our house and one half portion I save for lunch the next day.

otravezempezamos · 08/08/2024 18:18

I'd be so upset at this OP. It's not about the food, it's their disregard for you, not leaving you any.

Katemax82 · 08/08/2024 18:19

They are incredibly greedy selfish bastards

CatherineofAmazon · 08/08/2024 18:20

Selfish bastards. I would be fuming.
Looking forward to an update tomorrow about the frozen wraps, genius revenge that😂

Tagyoureit · 08/08/2024 18:20

Fleurdalys · 08/08/2024 17:41

To be honest what they left for me was enough for me
It's more I was hoping it would feed 3 people tomorrow too!

Anyway, they make cheese, ham salad wraps every morning at 6 am to take to work
I've frozen every bloody wrap in the house
Good luck with that at 6am

I think that's really mean!

You made it sound like you didn't have enough for your dinner but you did, you just didn't have leftovers, it's not ideal, but not as bad as you first made out.

Thesecretingredientiscrime · 08/08/2024 18:21

Controversial mince opinions... 👀
If we did 500g of mince, we'd make a bulked out bolognese with lots of tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, plus finely diced carrots and red peppers. It does for about eight adult portions, half of which we freeze.

MrsCarson · 08/08/2024 18:22

When I do Bolognese I use 500g of mince and feed 5 adults. They must feel sick eating so much, greedy beggars.
I'd do what someone else suggested and buy yourself a take out and don't let them have any of it.

I agree with this. I don’t find greed and gluttony funny and the complete lack of consideration is disgusting. This isn’t acceptable and I feel sorry for any future partner the DS will have given he thinks it’s acceptable for him and is DF to eat all the food his mother cooked before she even got home. He’s learned that from somewhere…

It’s a horrible selfish attitude to have from both of them and frankly I couldn’t be in the same house as selfish pricks like this.

Anewuser · 08/08/2024 18:24

Yes, they’re greedy bastards but take it as a compliment, they enjoy your cooking.

UnctuousUnicorns · 08/08/2024 18:24

Blimey, what a pair of greedy sods! For comparison, the other day, I made a pasta bake from a 300g bag of Quorn mince (we're vegetarian), with a 400g tin of chopped tomatoes, one onion, and half a red and quarter of a yellow pepper. I used 4 cups of dried pasta and around three quarters of a cup of grated cheddar on top. That lot served three adults in the evening, with two helpings for lunch the following day. A whole kilo of mince should make plenty more than two and a bit servings!

TruthorDie · 08/08/2024 18:24

That’s impressively greedy and selfish

Good work with the wraps freezing!

user1471538275 · 08/08/2024 18:26

According to the British Dietetic foundation a portion of meat (cooked) is 90g

Raw that's likely 125g so 500g = 4 portions, 1kg =8

I'm overinvested as I just made 1.5kg ('twas reduced!) steak mince into 3kg Bolognese sauce and was hoping it would make 4 adult meals tonight, a large lasagne (6/8 portions) tomorrow and I've taken 2/3 portions to freeze - so approx (12/15 portions overall) - seems okay with the above recommendation.

Oblomov24 · 08/08/2024 18:26

1kg of mince isn't that much. That barely feeds a family of 4 with 2 teens who have hollow legs. But agree with pp the selfishness of leaving you only a laddle would hack me off.

You throw it out for the fox?! But why? Leftover spag bol is a thing of beauty, it only gets better the next day.

BossMadam · 08/08/2024 18:27

As a positive, they obviously really enjoyed your cooking OP!

The 18 year old lad in a manual job I wouldn’t have so much of an issue with being ravenous and belly being a bottomless pit.

The husband not ensuring a portion was left for you, and making DS very aware it was not to be touched, I would have.

Of course your DS is old enough to know for himself but it sounds like he is following your DH’s lead in terms of selfishness and disrespect.

Exactly, don't give a stuff about anyone else. Tbh you DH should have set a better example to your son. They are both entitled twats with little thought for you.
About time you got them cooking if they don't already! You all work FT so should be a joint effort.

shellyleppard · 08/08/2024 18:27

Op they owe you a takeaway and a very large apology!!!!! The greedy buggers 😱😱

Was it some sort of pissing contest?
I've known men and their teenage sons go into competition with each other - who can eat the most, drink the most, tell the best stories etc. A bit like vying for Top Dog in the house.....

This thread has become a pissing contest between the teeny tinies and their insanely tedious, competitive under-eating.

500g mince between 12 is comedy gold...
